I don't know the original source to this rumor, but I read that some of the Streetmosphere acts, including the Public Works guys, may be discontinued at Studios. :guilty: I hope this isn't going to happen.

Streetmosphere adds so much fun and atmosphere to the park.

I agree. We went a few years back (well, we've been going every year for the past 4, butthis one experience in particular), and we came across one of those characters sitting on a bench and he spoke as if he was a little slow, which I'm not sure what that has to do with the act, but he was funny..."he packed a banana, and he packed the jello"! We still say that to this day!

I love those people. The fancy lady in the car, the struggling actor, the big shot producer. Some of the best stuff there.

Oh my gosh, they better keep the streetmosphere! I even enjoy watching people post videos of it on youtube. Bucky Greenhorn is always amazing with his music, and just having a conversation with them while you're there just makes your day.

one of the biggest (although not only) problems with disney paris studios park is the lack of streetmosphere. It kinda feels like some other park trying desparately to be Disney.

If they take streetmosphere away from WDW it would be on the same scale as closing PI was as far as stupid decisions go. Maybe bigger.

They may as well just knock the castle down as well - they could fit a few more generic shops selling generic products in then.

Take this out, and you're left with just another theme park. These touches is what makes Dinsey shine. Short-sighted move, if true.

I hoped someone who had more first-hand knowledge would post in here with an update. From what I understand, it was annual contract renewal time for most, if not all, of the Streetmosphere actors. Streetmosphere itself is not going away. Some got renewed, some got new contracts elsewhere, and some had contracts that were not renewed at all by Disney. I don't know if the pod of characters who work for Hollywood Public Works are gone completely, or if that pod will remain but with new actors cast in some of the roles.

It's always sad to see favorite characters gone from Hollywood Studios, but it hits particularly hard when some of those characters have been fixtures for so long that it's very hard to imagine days hanging out at Hollywood Studios without them. :sad2:

Can't forget Freddie Fiddlesticks, Paige Turner and Les Manley. HS wouldn't be the same without them.

Once I happened to see Officer Les Manley. He went up to a young boy and said, "Son, do you have a license to lick that lolly?" I busted out laughing and the look on the boy's face was priceless!

The Actor who played Francis Floot/Buz Ardman was offered a new contract but he declined, I guess Disney wanted to change direction on his characters and he didn't feel comfortable with that. But he left open the chance to come back with them at some later date.

My ire over the loss of the Lights of Winter would be nothing compared to how totally over the top explosively mad as I would be if this rumor were to turn out to be true.

Paige Turner, Les Manly, Tootie Frutti, Bucky Greenhorn, Buz, and many others who's names currently escape me are the best part of any day that we have ever had at DHS. I schedule rides around seeing them. Mulch Sweat and Shears are another big part of our Studios experience that we look forward to year after year.

If anyone has the bright idea that these characters and acts need to go for the sake of the bottom line, they are sorely mistaken, because I do not care how great the rides are, without atmosphere, I might as well stay home and just buy a pass to Six Flags. I would save tons of money in doing so, but I choose to go to Disney because the experience is superior. Taking away these unique Disney experiences does not enhance your bottom line, it will hurt more than you know.

I am already on the fence about going back to WDW this year because, while I have heard the rumors that the LoW are being worked on for a return to Epcot, due to their short sighted decision to not spend the money to properly rehab them for the 2009 holiday season, I am not sure that they are actually doing it and would like to know that they have gotten a clue before we make any solid plans to return. This rumor, well, it could be the thing that makes us can a trip to WDW in December for some other less expensive vacation experience. It's up to Disney at this point to show me that my vacation dollar is worth the effort. We go annually and drop about $8,000-$10,000 per trip for just the two of us. I have already decided against a solo trip this year. I stated when I cancelled that I was unhappy with the constant cuts to the guest experience and the ever increasing prices of the WDW vacation experience.

I guess time will tell, but without Streetmosphere, I am not going back to WDW any time soon.

Update: DHS contacted the actor who plays Francis Floot/Buz Ardman and reworked his deal and brought another one of the Streetmosphere actors back too

When is it that these characters supposedly disappeared ?
I was there Christmas to New Year's and they were all out in full force.
As far as renewing contracts, again, when are we talking about? In the last few weeks since New Year's ?

They hadn't gone yet most are still there, but were just working out the remainder of their contract. I just found out that Francis will be on the Public works truck with two of the other Public works guys, not sure of the characters names only know their real ones, but I will check on it.

Last trip I went to DHS early without the rest of the family. They were taking TOO LONG to get ready in the morning. It was great standing around watching the streetmosphere players entertaining the crowd. They had a big movie tryout with a girl from the audience involved.

Even waiting for the parade the cop came along and set up cones and made anyone pushing a stroller do a driving test through the cones. They make the park special:thumbsup2
