Street takeover tonight at Disneyland hit and run

Never been to Disneyland but we are going this June. Staying at the Grand Californian, is this something we may have to deal with? Not the music lol, I couldn't care less about that. I'm talking about crossing the streets with the possibility of a "take over".

The possibility of a “take over” in that area is very, very slim. There is usually a large police presence around both DLR and the Convention Center so it’s surprising this area was even chosen for this.

That being said, once you get to the Grand Californian the only “streets” you will be near are those inside the parks. You won’t be able to see a public street unless you have a window overlooking the entrance to the hotel, even then it’s obscured by trees.

You won't be crossing streets if you're just going to the parks and Downtown Disney. (Technically, you'd be crossing Disneyland Drive if you decided to visit the Disneyland Hotel, but you'd use the pedestrian promenade and not be on the street itself.) Besides, frankly, I wouldn't lie awake nights worrying even if you do decide to go to a restaurant or somewhere else off property.

Thanks for clarifying. Like I said, never been so I wasn't sure the proximity of GC to the parks.

They are trying again tonight They are lined up on Disneyland Dr with hazard lights on blocking a lane of traffic. I saw a cop pull up so I hope they aren’t successful. Lot of people leaving the park.
GC you are safe those roads are all on Disney property. I am at best western Stovall inn on the outside edge of Disney.

We won’t stay off Katella anymore when we do staycations. Last time was in October for the OBB, and while walking to the parks, someone was laying on the ground shooting up with drugs at the corner of Harbor and Katella. Not to mention the mentally ill woman who followed us for a block screaming obscenities at everyone.

If we don’t stay on property, we stay at the Park Vue only.

Nope, you’ll be in the Disneyland bubble at the Grand. We stayed there in December after having a really unsettling staycation off property that I noted in an above post, and my 7 year old daughter told me that her favorite part of staying at the Grand Californian was feeling safe and no scary people screaming at us.

We usually stay up on Katella, yes we see homeless people and people who are mentally ill. But no one has ever engaged with us and there are always large groups of people walking the same streets, I feel perfectly safe with my kids.

Is that a typo for Katella?

That's horrible and so dangerous. I see cops in the area a lot so it's crazy that it took so long to respond. Must have been a busy night. Yikes.
Cops tend not to try and catch takeovers while they happen. 90% of the time, by the time police show up, the street racers are already gone and the resources have been wasted. Plus, even if there are only 2 or 3 active participants, there are usually dozens of additional "spectator" cars, and the actual instigators blend into the crowd. Unless the cops actually see who was in the intersection, they can't cite or arrest anyone (and there's never anyone willing to act as a witness). I've seen videos where spectators have been hit by cars, and they run off faster than the drivers do.

No. Grand Californian is on property this happened off property. You will be ok.

Yes, the poster who confronted a group of innocent people waiting at a bus stop who were playing rap music (which is not a crime) was an instigator. He is lucky those people didn't engage back.
What crime was being committed? Honestly it's your responsibility to keep your kids away from things you don't want them to hear. You were the instigator in this situation.

The loud music could be a disturbing the peace violation,

You are lucky. We also had a lady yell and scream at us and get in our face while trying to cross the street. I was thankful it was just my husband and I, and our kids were not with us. And it was only us and one other family in that area trying to cross.

Last time we stayed in that area, we didn’t notice any homeless on that same corner.

Disturbing the peace next to an amusement park where they shoot off fireworks and people are screaming at the tops of their lungs on roller coasters? This isn’t a sleepy suburb with quiet hours from 9pm-6am. This is an urban area where attractions (sports events, concerts, amusements parks, restaurants, etc) are operating until the wee hours of the morning. No one goes to the DLR area for quiet. If you’re staying offsite, you have to prepare yourself and your travel companions to be exposed to the sights, sounds, and smells of being in an urban environment. If those things bother you, then staying offsite probably isn’t the best option for you.

I’ve stayed offsite 100’s of times in the last 20 years and I’ve never had a scary experience walking back to a hotel. I’m not discounting anyone’s negative experiences, I don’t doubt others have had scary experiences. But I do not think these are regular happenings in the immediate vicinity of DLR.

I just said there is a law on the books about disturbing the peace in response to a post about such. No need to get snippy. https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/anaheim/latest/anaheim_ca/0-0-0-58010

Just because I disagree with you does not mean I am “getting snippy”. I’m pointing out that it is silly to say someone is “disturbing the peace” in an area where there is no reasonable expectation of peace and quiet. According to the noise ordinance you linked, it would be impossible for a police officer to issue a citation as they would have to determine that “peace” was being disrupted in the first place. That will be a pretty hard thing to prove on a busy street next to an amusement park where there are explosions and people screaming all throughout the night, along with large crowds of noisy people moving throughout the area.

You have two options as a parent in that situation. You can either create a scene that possibly escalates into something worse in front of your children that forever scars them watching their father get into a physical or verbal altercation or you can let it go and realize the music isn't going to harm them and you can use that a lesson for what not to do in public. As a parent, I let that go because there's a lot more for me to lose if I confront the people with the offensive rap music than if I just tell my kids, "we don't do something like this in public and we should be considerate of others".
