This board is still somewhat new to me, and i mean no offense, but is it standard for someone you have never 'met' to message you asking for your room reservation number and information to fill a room block.

I guess i somewhat understand desperation but that sounds very unsafe on multiple levels.

Thanks, just curious.

Nope not "standard". I would not give any info.;)

That's crazy.

Here's a rule of thumb I employ: Never share ANY info regarding anything in your life unless YOU contact the person asking. I've given my mother the same advice since she began using the internet a couple years ago. I suppose an exception could be someone you know, but you get my drift.

Thought so....I am a security columnist and this is something where someone trying to be nice could easily get 'screwed'

Just was making sure that the DIS regulars felt the same way as I do....which is kind of offended

I know in the past on the DIS those who are having a WDW wedding and needed to fill a certain amount of Disney rooms for their package have asked others to do this. Basically the person having a wedding picks a package and with that package you have to gaurentee Disney that you will fill a certain amount of rooms for a certain amount of days. If you can't fill those rooms with your wedding gu4ests then you might ask your friends on the DIS if they wouldn't mind linking their ressie with their wedding. However, I would never ask a complete stranger, or a newbie of the boards. I would be leary of it too, but I just wanted to explain that it could be valid.

I had a WDW wedding and what the above poster is saying is correct- you do have to fill so many room nights. However you also get a discounted room rate... So if I were the person who needed help they probably should have allowed you to book under their wedding party along with discounted tickets too. I mean you can give ressie numbers to your EM of guests staying at other resorts and that counts, but I would feel uncomfortable as well.

The person that asked you for the info to fill a certain number of rooms probably wants to be able to get a discount/group rate. While the request is most likely innocent, I've got to say that unless I knew the other DIS'er, I would not give out personal information. I hate to say that because it's probably again perfectly innocent - but you've got to protect yourself. It's not at all a usual thing. I've been only these boards since 1998 (started under a different name) and no one has ever asked me that. You probably have a ressie at the right resort and the right time for the other DIS'er's needs.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE OUT INFORMATION TO SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW. I suggest you pass the information along to the moderators or webmasters and let them deal with it.

would gladly pass it along, how do you do that when the message came via private message?

LOTS of people know each other well on here. They have like 3000 posts and chat with each other on a daily basis. If that were the case I would 100% take the discount and do it. But- I'm new here and it appears that you are too.

Unless you know the person well, I wouldn't either. Sounds like a GREAT way to cancel a room ressie and allow for that person to book your room for themselves instead :)

I neded to give my name, reservation number and my cell numbber in order to
facilitate the swap of the frig at POP. Is this bad?

I have been running the October 2007 List on the Happy Dance board.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1360866
I was PM'ed by a rather freaked out DIS'er who was on that list because it seems that someone approached her asking for similar information. Because of this, I of course removed her from the list. I PM'ed 2 mods and WebmasterAlex....the only response so far has been from one on the mods to say that she is no longer a mod. Please, if you are a mod and would like to help me to help the DIS'er that I was approached by, pleasee PM me! Maggie

I just realized that the OP of this thread is a part of the October 2007 list too. :sad2: I have placed a warning in the OP of the October thread. Maggie

This could be true, but if I was a person trying to accomplish this, I'd give them my info (party name, location) and ask them to book or re-book to my party/block. I mean, that's the only way I'd expect someone to respond. Asking for what they asked is out of line.

There was a thread here a while back soliciting people for their information so they could get a room block for their wedding. The post was removed and appropriately so. So, it shouldn't be happening via pm's either.

Yes I was going to say - Post your info (if you are a bride) and say hey I have a room block pm me if you want a discount and.... Basicly you would call group reservations and give them your info NOT the person(bride), unless they did not want to give your their discount, as rooms not in the block but on Disney property do count. But that would all make me nervous. Actually last year I had rooms in my block and another bride needed them for her guests and I was still leary about giving my info, so I emailed my em and she handled it all through the other brides' em.
