Every year I get little bags of Goldfish to give out in case parents don't want their little kids to get candy but then my friend pointed out that they wouldn't really be out trick-or-treating if they didn't want them to have candy. That's so true!

Last year I had the goldfish packs on the same tray as the candy and lots of kids CHOSE them over the candy. So, I guess it was okay. Besides, if they don't get taken I have lunch snacks for my kids for a few weeks.

What on earth are Chick Tracts???

My kids got mainly neat candy. They did get chocolate fingers which were pretty gross looking but they thought it was very funny, Coolest things were whistle pops. Those were a BIG hit!

but FUN and ingenious... A couple of women in our neighborhood set up a fire pit at the end of their driveway and were toasting marshmallows and making S'mores! It was great and gave the kids just enough of a sugar rush to continue TOT.

I thought I was weird for giving out little packs of Ritz Crisps crackers. I thought it might be nice for the kids to get something a little different. Now I feel much better—no coupons for exercise or Mary Kay catalogs from me!

My DS got normal stuff but one of his friends went to a few different houses then he did and she got some ketchup packets and soy sauce!

We did this too! M&Ms and Goldfish in the same candybowl. Most kids chose the goldfish. Parents thought that was an awesome idea. And a bunch of teenagers told DD17 -- "Your house ROCKS!! We LOVE goldfish!" It made her feel really good that some teenage boys weren't candyhounds!

I am baffled about the popcorn. Apparently one of the children that DS was TOTing with expressed his disapproval of a bag of microwave popcorn they received at one house (after they had left the house). I am so glad that my children didn't say anything. I think the popcorn idea is just fine! DH told me that as children he knew that kids just tossed the unwanted stuff on the ground.... well, as it happens we have found three of the popcorn packages just this morning at the bus stop!! Apparently it wasn't a big hit around here.

But what really bugs me is how rude it is for the children to just toss it out! Wasteful AND littering.... two thinks that really peeve me!.................P

well that wouldn't happen at our house. The boys love popcorn, ritz crackers and golfish. We got some goldfish and popcorn but no crackers. I guess next year were headed to ead79's house.

I don't have any kids that TorT anymore, but when I was a kid, one thing that stands out in my mind was when our neighbor across the street gave us cookies and Jehovah's Witness literature.

DDs got an Easter Charms lollipop and our biggest laugh of the night was the older person in our neighborhood who gave us a pack of Freedent gum.

I just wanted to say I am happy when my kids getting snacks other than candy. We have three bags of candy between Halloween in the neighborhood and the mall. So I was so happy to see lots of bags of pretzels, cheese curls, crackers, and mini popcorn bags.

Chick Tracts are really weird little "religious" pamphlets. The publisher really hates Catholics, Halloween, sex, drugs & rock n roll, women, evolution, etc, etc. I love to find the tracts, they are so bizarre, they're little comic books.

Where does the name Chick Tract come from? IT doesn't go with what it is. I thought it would be some sort of candy
