Strange "upgrade" experience

We are going in May staying in Kidani on rented points. We are booded into a standard 2 bedroom as that is what we could aford. I was hoping we would get an upgrade. If by chance we do I will now know to mention if we do get the upgrade not to charge it to the members account. I want to be able to rent from them again if need be or at least recomend them to others.

Normally DVC does not upgrade rooms unless they have a maintance problem and do not have a room in your assigned category. Upgrades for other reasons such as asking for at check in should have additional points charged since they are not your points do not mess up someone elses account.

Holey moley!
What's with BLT changing reservations at the last minute?

helloirishkitty,
If I were you I'd call and ask now. They might still be nice and let you get the upgrade but there might be a hassle later if you didn't notify them sooner rather than later.
Then again if you have the extra points maybe it'd be a nice wedding surprise for your DH :)

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

There is no point to ask for an upgrade. With DVC you get what you booked unless there is a maintenance problem with the room you reserved. You will get what you paid for and do not ask for any upgrade otherwise, the member you rented from will be coming after you for the extra cost that it cost them.

Otherwise, just ask the member to cancel the reservation and get your money back from them if they don't have a no cancellation policy and make a cash reservation directly from Disney.

It seems strange to me that BLT is having this problem. I know back in 2009 when we were first checking in their was some lady beside us at check in that reserved a SV and wanted MK view. They were very clear that if they were able to do it she would have to pay the difference with her points. She was really pissed about that idea and felt since she didn't like the floor she had she should be given a free upgrade. I know they were talking with her for about 20 minutes before we had finished up and left. It sounded like she was talking with MS and they were trying to explain that she didn't have the points to upgrade and they wouldn't do it for free.

I would not be against the idea utilizing CRO / trade-out inventory. If CRO has available larger units but can only sell a studio, when members already booked all studios. CRO could take the studio and bump up a member to the larger unit.

That's not going to happen unless they need the studio you have reserved and you are only staying a night or two. And the DRC (CRO) inventory has already been used on points (traded out by a member) or never belonged to points inventory in the first place.

And the outcry from the members! "I booked a studio hoping to get a one bedroom for no extra points and didn't get it - even thought Deb & Bill got one last month. What makes them more special than me?"

That's silly talk, everyone knows that Deb and Bill are deservedly more special ;)
