Strange Towel Question

Aw, please don't use the pool towels to supplement your room towels. That's just an increase in dues to us members. If you want more towels pay for daily Trash & Towel service or wash them yourself.

We designate a towel bar for each person. My husband and son each get a space right by the shower. I get the one by the jacuzzi tub. We use the same towel at home for a week and don't have a problem. I'm usually pretty clean when I get out of the shower. ;)

How does it raise our dues??

Pool towels require special laundering because of the pool chemicals. Increasing the number of used pool towels, thus increasing the number that must be washed, increases dues.

Additional towel packs, 4 bath, 2 hand, 4 wash cloths and a mat are $6. Additional trash and towel service varies with room size:

Additional Trash & Towel Rates:
Studio/Inn Room - $15.00 per day requested
One-Bedroom - $20.00 per day requested
Two-Bedroom - $25.00 per day requested
Three-Bedroom - $35.00 per day requested

We usually use the washer and dryer a great deal for towels, as much to make sure we have a dry one as anything because we usually shower more than once a day being at WDW during hot weather. The lack of fresh towels daily is one of the few things I don't like about DVC, but being as thrifty as a I am, I don't want to pay for extra trash and towel service. I do understand that having more housekeeping duties would cost us more in MF which I don't want either.

Is this really true? Why in the world would they require special laundering because of pool chlorine?? That sounds like an old wives tale or urban legend. :rotfl2: Don't they just wash all towels in soap and bleach? Even the towels used in the rooms?? I just think they don't want to give out more towels because it costs more to wash more towels (pool or room towels). But, if we wash them in the room everyday anyway, doesn't it cost the same as the resort washing them??

One of the main reasons I hate the studios is because we have to deal with all those wet towels. I pay extra points for the washer/dryer.

Maybe it is JUST A RULE THAT WE SHOULD FOLLOW!!!! Use room towels while in the room, use pool towels while at the pool. :confused3

So worth 6 bucks to get an extra pack...................we have done this before....just having enough and having to wash them daily can be a pain too. I think 6 bucks is well spent on an extra pack. :thumbsup2

Now, that I will agree with...it may be a rule that we should follow if we want to keep our dues down. But to say it takes some special wash for the pool towels IS kind-of funny.

Wow, then I am messed up.:lmao: We have had a pool for years and I just throw them in the washer with regular soap and hot water (like I do all towels).

That is the reason given by DVC. It may be true, they may use something to neutralize chlorine. It may also be a health code for commercial pools.

Regardless, not using pool towels is the DVC rule.

How do they tell the two towels apart for when they do the laundry....are the pool towels bigger or smaller. Different colors?

Different size and texture.

The pool towels at SSR have raised up lines on them...and the regular resort towels are just your basic white towels. I think the pool ones are thinner too.

I may not be remembering correctly, but I thought the extra cost in laundering the pool towels was due to how the wastewater had to be handled differently. :confused3

if everyone used pool towels it would increase the labor costs to wash them there by increasing our dues. Unless......perhaps Disney has something magical that puts all the extra towels in the washer, moves them magically to the dryer & magically folds them..........can I get one of those, can I, huh?!

Humm. We noticed huge bins of towels, right next to bins of garbage (which we thought was "ewww"), when we were inadvertently stopped for a long spell on the Monorail and had a less than typical view of DW as we approached the MK from Epcot. I have my doubts about "special laundering" being the reason they don't want pool towels used in the rooms. They had those same pool towels on the Wonder, and I really doubt they have special washers on that ship just for pool towels or the waste water they create (I'll certainly ask that question next time around!) because I am sure they would have told us that, and there were no signs requesting guests to NOT take pool towels to their rooms, as you would expect if it really was important. There were no "reminders" in the Navigator, as with other ship service requests, etc. That being said, I appreciated how bountiful they were at the pool, so it is probably good they have the policy and I certainly am one to abide by requests rules of the management.

The housekeeper never mentioned anything about special laundering. Because I washed the towels in our room, we didn't take up his suggestion, but it is good to know that it is frowned upon (and I have to wonder why I'm not getting literature from DVC in regards to things like that. All I ever get are solicitiations to buy more shares and my dues bill receipt).

Normally I launder the towels every other day at home, but we seemed to take showers two or three times at day when at DW. Morning, again after a swim and maybe before bed if it has been a long and sweaty day in the parks.

I think the suggestions were great -- colored clothes pins, pants hangers, snap hooks. I have suction accessories that I bring for toothbrushes and soap that I stick on the mirror, and have used the suction hooks for hanging swim suits. Forgetful me, I usually don't remember to remove them before we go, though. :laundy: There was also a retractable clothesline in the shower, so we used that after the first morning shower. DH kept his towel and washcloth on the left and I kept mine on the right. He's a lefty, so that's how we know whose side is whose.

Fortunately, you don't have to adhere to any commercial rules and/or regulations. Try going into business and just combining laundry. I won't want to stay at your place....

Just trying to look at it from the other side... We only wash our towels once a week and that is what we do at the resorts too.

I would like to see more towel bars in the bathrooms so towels and washcloths could be spread out to dry better.

I too appreciate the clothespin idea. We are planning a girls trip for eight of us this fall and I was thinking about how to keep track of which towels belong to which gal.

We like a fresh washcloth daily so I usually pick up a dozen when our Meijers or Kohls store has them on sale for $2.99 for twelve. (I buy colored ones.) Since they are so inexpensive, I can either leave them there or bring them home to use for the next trip.
