Strange question--don't want to offend anyone

I have a strange question, but I don't want to offend anyone by asking it. I am a HUGE Dis Unplugged podcast fan. In fact, it was my first podcast to ever listen to. I didn't even know what a podcast really was until I started listening to the crew...and fell in love with the whole gang, including Bob.

Since then, I've started listening to some other podcasts....WDW Radio Show, WDW Today, and Be Our Guest. It seems like these other podcasts talk about each other and are very friendly with each other. However, they never mention the Dis Unplugged or the disboards. Why is that? Is there animosity there, or is it a competition thing?

Anyone know? Just thought it seemed strange that they seem to have a mutual love fest going on and never mention the biggest Disney community and podcast out there...

Thanks!
Kristi

Not a strange question at all. I have wondered the same thing.
All About the Mouse mentions "friends of the show" at the end of each show. I think once they mentioned DisUnplugged.

When Bob died, most all the other podcasts I listen to offered acknowledgement and sympathy.

Just one of the curious mysteries of the podcast world.

Recently Len of WDW Today referred a caller to "DisBoards" because they were interested in renting DVC points from an owner for an upcoming trip. He was very complementary of the information provided on DisBoards and said he had rented points via the site and that it was probably the best process available. Wonderful endorsement from and to my two favorite podcasts.

I listen to alot of podcasts. Many of the other podcast's are connected thru MouseFest. MouseFest has a pretty long history. The Dis finally got involved with MouseFest in 2008. The Did Unplugged were very complimentary of the whole MouseFest organization. Sadly, that was the last year of MouseFest because it got too much of a full time job for Dave Marx, the head of the committee. Mike Scopa from WDW Today, Deb Wills of AllEars.net, and Lou Mongello of WDW Radio podcast are also on the committee. No one has stepped up to oversee the whole event so it's been on hiatus for 2 years and maybe more.

I don't think it's that strange. I think the podcasts you mentioned have just become friendly with each other probably/maybe through Mousefest and so they talk about the other shows. I don't listen to any of the ones you mentioned, but I do listen to the Laughing Place podcast and MouseGuest podcast and they don't talk about other podcasts or the DISboards either.

Ah, Mouse Fest! That would make sense as the missing link between some of the podcasts!

I'm sad that Mouse Fest has been on hiatus...I would love to go now that I'm a certified Disney nut. That, or go on the ABD trip or the Podcast Cruise 2.0! I really, REALLY want to go on the Podcast Cruise, but I started a new job and won't have the vacation time yet to spare.

Thanks!

It's not just Mousefest but also Magic Meets in PA (well, it's on the seas this year) that brought alot of them together. Also there is a travel agency that sponsors some of them, so that also links them together. I think a lot of the podcasts, even those with their own forums, often direct people to the disboards because it is so large and they recognize the sheer amount of info on the forums. I think this may have even been addressed one point by the podcast crew...I don't remember what episode it was but I think they said they just preferred being their own individual group and were just too busy to listen and participate within the other communities (and if I'm speaking out of my butt on that one, I apologize...memory not what it used to be).

Oh yeah, I forgot about Magic Meets. Never been and probably never will. Hmmm, could be why that one slipped my mind.

I actually found the Dis unplugged because of other podcsts I listen too. The first time I heard about it was sadly when they announced BOB's passing, but this didn't make me go check out the podcast.

It was months later in November when it was mentioned again, on WDW today and on all about the mouse, that I decided to check it out, and boy was I glad I did.

This past summer I went back and listened from the beginning and enjoyed listening to every minute.

I didn't come on the board for months and months as I wasn't much of a forum poster, but now I am addicted to the forums, reading everything I can.
:rotfl:

Magic Meets is a newer event, most of the people mentioned (Deb Wills, Mike Scopa, etc.) knew each other before then. Before Mousefest evolved into Mousefest there was the RADP (rec-arts-disney-parks) which goes way back in the day before I even had a computer or knew what the heck the internet was. They had meetups and I know Deb was involved with that. So most of these folks know each other from a long time ago. The LP folks started out as DL people and moved to Orlando a while ago so that's why they don't have the same connections to that MF WDW crowd. Also, the Unofficial guide (co-author is Len Testa who co-hosts WDW Today) lists the Disboards as the best online community to get info from. So I don't think there is animosity, it's more a matter of people now knowing each other that well.

Bingo. I'm one of the RADP people who attended meets in December, pre-cursor to Mouse Fest. The DIS had meets, and other groups (like Tagrel) had meets, but Deb Wills and Dave Marx took the initiative back around 2004 to start Mouse Fest. There is a lot of overlapping among the various communities, which makes me happy. :goodvibes

The funny thing is, I've stopped posting to RADP years ago, but I still talk to all the people I've come to know over the years. I'll be seeing many of them pre-PCC2.0 since they'll be there for the annual December meet.

There have been a few mentions of the Dis on the BetaMouse podcast. I think alot of it has to do with what people/websites/companies are behind the podcast. There are some that are done by other travel agencies which would be a competitor of Dreams.

How about this for a real world example. In the newspaper, or your local TV news do they reference the other stations or papers in the same town? Not unless it is mud slinging story.

I too have heard Len Testa (TouringPlans, WDW Today) mention the DIS boards a couple of times - he's been very complimentary.

FWIW, Pete has mentioned both Lou Mongello and Deb Wills in past podcasts.

The Keys to the Kingdom podcast folks mention the DIS occasionally. Usually with a great deal of awe in their voices.

Len Testa has actually posted recently on the DISboards, mostly about the recent TouringPlans 2.0 stuff.

Even Ricky Brigante (Inside The Magic) has been posting lately, and he has his own forums...but they don't get very much volume.

Len has always posted on the Dis even when we couldn't post the name of the UG's website. Being Len's biggest silent fan, I remember him posting.

I like WDW Today and I like the Dis Unplugged. If they didn't like each other, I really wouldn't want to know. I don't care who likes or doesn't like whom or why. If there are problems or in-fighting, I'm glad they are kept quiet.

My bet is that any appearance of dislike is all business and not personal.
