Strange email from DVC

Anyone else get an email today from DVC? The subject line was Member Discount for Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend returns, but on opening the email all it said was "Newsletter attached" and a strange address for unsubscribing. There was an attachment which I was afraid to download. I've never gotten anything like this from them before - any newsletters from Disney are always in the body of the email, not an attachment that needs downloading.

Maybe I'm just paranoid since receiving emails from about 8 different companies regarding the "email address theft".

I got an email, but everything popped up in mine - didn't have to download anything. I've been paranoid about emails too since I also had about 8-10 emails about the email address theft.

I got an e-mail re: the same subject, but didn't have to open it as an attachment - all the text was there in the body of the e-mail. Nothing needed to be downloaded. Basically there are offering a $10-20 discount off registration fees for Marathon Weekend Events.

We got this email today too, but it had the message in the body. I didn't have to click on an attachment to open it. It was very much like my normal DVC emails.

I also am a bit hesitant to open attachments. As my mother used to say, "Better safe than sorry!"

If you wanted to know the content: there was a $10 savings on the half and full marathon in January and $20 savings on the Goofy Challenge and . . . . something else.

I received the email this afternoon too. It was all in the body of the email, no opening of attachment needed.

Maybe your spam blocker stopped it?

Thanks for all the quick replies - very strange. Don't think it was my spam blocker - wouldn't that just send it to my spam folder, rather than creating a 4KB attachment?

I got it just a minute ago . . . exactly like you described. A very basic plain e-mail with an attachment. I most likely wouldn't have opened it, but you mentioning it reminded me about the 'e-mail' fiasco.

I got it too as an attachment. I didn't open it.

My email programs (Microsoft Outlook & Lotus Notes) will sometimes prevent the download of pictures/images in an HTML email, not the entire message.
You can check the Automatic Download Settings of your email program and/or you can add the Sender to your Safe Senders list to ensure that images are automatically downloaded.

This particular email from DVC was mostly "images".

It looks fine in earthlink's webmail. Many companies send e-mails with address that often appear odd. I have no doubt that this is a legit e-mail from DVC.

I received it as well. Because I saw DVC in the the sender address it never even occurred to me that I should worry about allowing my system to open the "newsletter attached" that was in the body of the email. When I clicked on the attachment it opened up as a flyer promoting the marathons.

Has there ever been a time when a Disney "look-alike" sent out fraudulent emails trying to harm the recipients? Or am I just naive?

I received the email too. All the info was in the body of the email.
