Let me share a strange incident down at the rope line one Disneyland day in the not too distant past.

We'd (a family of four)turned up nice and early, entered the park with the first few, and ended up near the front of the rope line about half an hour before the park opened. My eldest daughter (10) peeled off to look in a gift shop - her younger sister followed a few minutes later. I let them browse till ten minutes before rope drop - then went to get them, so as not to incovenience the rest of the crowd.

I located them, and headed for the doorway I'd entered - the closest to the rope on the right hand side of main street. But I couldn't get out, because a woman had placed her stroller in the doorway. Not part way, not a little bit, but right in the centre. When politely asked to move, she refused, claiming 'we're all here for the same thing' - meaning she had parked herself here for rope drop, and I wasn't to get in front of her! We finally got her to let us past.

My take on it is that she used the stores to walk through to pass people who had been waiting longer...a fair enough gambit perhaps, but i don't think it extends to blocking doorways. Anyone else seen this strategy in action?

i always see and hear people about using the stores to cut through people to get to the front, it's nothing new and a lot of people do it.

I would think it would be a real problem if you mentioned to a CM that a person wouldn't allow you out of the store.

Unfortunately rude behavior is nothing new at DLR. :(

I agree with Danger, unfortunately being at the happiest place on earth is not enough for some people. There needs to be a sign at the tunnels- leave the attitudes and rudeness behind!

Sounds like this needs to happen...how sad. Rope drop sounds like such a scary thing, that I think I'd hang back...between the rude people and being mowed over....wow! Makes you want to remind them they are in Disneyland, rudeness does NOT belong. Maybe offer them a hug or something!

We are at Disneyland this week and saw the same thing.

I had two teenagers push past me Monday saying, "Excuse us, we have passes to get in early" in order to get to the front for the rope drop!

Is it odd that I don't even care about the rope drop, or being first on a ride, or anything like that? I am always just so happy to be there.

People at rope drop are crazy! We had to get past them for our breakfast reservations with Minnie, and a lot of people gave us attitude and tried to stop my husband (who had the stroller) from getting through! I kept explaining that we had reservations, and apologizing, but those people were mean!

when i go into the parks i leave my attitude at the gate otherwise i might get banned for life from there. folks like the kids pushing past or the lady blocking the door in my local mall would be forcefully moved/delt with i just don't tolerate that crap. but at dl or dca i just say who cares let them run mad like idiots they are 1% if that of the folks i meet at the parks. most times i run into folks who are polite and have no problems letting you by or giving advice or taking your pictures.

It's not odd at all, I feel the exact same way. I've never been there for rope drop and probably never will.

I'm with you on this one. The last time I did rope drop, I was probably 7. I know I'm going to have enough time to do everything I want so there's no point in getting up early to be ran over by a bunch of pushy people.

Depends on the day. Sometimes they don't do it, they just scan tickets at opening time and off you go. Sometimes they let you onto main street half an hour before official opening. So if opening is at 10 a.m., they might start scanning tickets and letting you in at 9:30. Then everybody goes down to the end of main street, where they have the rope stretched across. Then the CMs will drop it right at 10.

Sometimes they do rope drop for MM, which lets you into Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Frontierland, Adventureland etc. are still roped off. At regular opening, there's a mini-rope drop to these areas.

Very confusing, and I've heard lots of variations on this!

We did rope drop only once on our last trip (April 25 - May 2), and they let us onto Main St. half an hour before opening. I heard someone in the crowd say that it's because when they didn't open the gates until opening time, people would run through the gates and trample others; this way it's more controlled because the CMs can be right there, telling people to walk and be safe.

I've never seen anyone get trampled before, that would be scary! :scared1:

We did have a couple of teens/young adults push through the crowd toward the front, even though it was already pretty thick, and there was also a group of kids that tried to push through the post-parade crowd by holding hands and skimming through single-file. That was scary, especially when one kid hopped over my DS in the stroller, and had to stop suddenly, straddling the stroller! Stupid, stupid!

On our trips with our kids in the 90's we always did the rope drop- it was a blast! The cm's would walk backwards saying walk walk walk..and everyone would run like mad to their favorite ride lol. Of course this was before fast pass so more necessary ;-)

we did it and i actuely had a few nice ppl around me. we talked and stuff after i had to catch back up. my son and fionce had got up front and I couldnt get by (a lady who kinda sounds like the ops lady with stroler and like not letting me past) then this guy moved his stroler and let me though on his side the lady did give a nasty look but i ignored it. later that day i saw the same dad and kids at one of the restrants. and I let them in front me. we were early for our resvation
so karma pays off. those of us with manors just have to keep letting the good karma go around and eventualy hopefully we wont meet rude ppl anymore (been long week son sick so if nothing makes since blame it on sleepless nights)

If anything like that ever happens you could always ask a CM if that was a fire hazard, to have someone blocking the doors. I bet they'd move really quick. ;)
