Hey, just a quick question.

I took my GHD's a few years ago to Florida, and they didn't work. At all. So I was wondering whether this is the case for most hair appliances. Has anyone taken straightners or hair stylers from the UK and got them to work in Florida? With the adapters obviously :P

I've got these relatively new babyliss curling iron thing, but it is designed like a straightner, so it can actually straighten hair. (Found the link -> http://www.youcurl.com/) I remember reading somewhere that the new GHD's can work in the States, so I am hoping it is the same for most new hair style things.

So, anyone had any success with taking hair driers, GHD's and the likes, to Florida?
Thanks for any replies :goodvibes

Yes the new GHD's work fine as they take the 110v, if you look on the plug of your hair curlers if they say 110 - 230v will be fine but if just 230v or similar then they won't work.

I recently bought the professional 247 cordless type, they are fab, highly recommended :thumbsup2

Thanks for the fast replies :)

I just checked my straighteners and curlers, and yep, 230v, so they wont work. Typical  So it looks like my hair will be curly and have a detox from the straightners for a while :o

Although I have got ones that are 220v-240v, I'm assuming that these wont work either.

Thanks again.

i had the same problem with my hair straighteners a couple of years ago.. GHDs- the light would go on but they just wouldn't get hot enough.. which led to big hair all vacation because of the humidity :scared1: lol

So I bought some revlon ceramic straighteners from Target last time I was in Florida (about $35?)... they are great!

one way to get around the voltage problems :lovestruc

It doesn't make a blind bit of difference for me - my GHD's work (got the Mark 1V ones)but as soon as i go outside in the humidity my hair looks like a birds nest:rotfl: I don't even take them now and just resign myself to bad hair days (oh, and hope that i never meet anyone that i know!!)

You could buy a voltage converter. I think most electrical stores in Orlando sell them for about $15-$20

I did the exact same! Revlon one's in Target for about $35, tbh they had a big selection though and I'd planned to throw them away after I came back but ended up bringing them back as I figured if I ever go to America again (which is likely) I'll just take them instead of my GHD's. Would prefer it was them that got broken rather than my GHD's :lovestruc

my GHDs (the older sytle) didnt work a few years back so I went to a supermarket and bought a cheap american pair - but once uv used GHD's the difference of the cheaper straightners is really noticable (by me anyway) so the next time we went i bought the newer GHD's on ebay new - they when we got back i sold them on ebay for the same price i had bought them for :) x x

I got the Revlon ones on offer in WalMart last year and they only cost me $12.99 but they are FAB! My GHD's do work but they didn't get hot enough out there and since we visit the states quite a bit I thought I'd just get some US straighteners. So I definitely recommend the Revlon ones.

One thing I would say though is that I took my GHDs last time and they worked fine but due to the humity after making my hair all nice and straight it'd be all wavy a couple of hours later anyway so I wouldn't get too stressed about it!! I ended up scrunching my hair and making it wavy instead which I never do at home.

I've had my long hair all chopped off though so it'll be well different this trip.

mo x

justed checked out my straigteners and they won't be working! will have to get some more
