This whole time I thought that the Little Mermaid and the Beauty and the Beast areas were going to be opening in late 2012.... with Storybook Circus opening in 2013 and Snow White Mine Train Coaster opening later than that.

But, today I received the Passholder Mickey Monitor and on page 1 it states

"The new land will open in phases starting in 2012 with an area called Storybook Circus. And future phases will include some of the newer classics today's parents grew up with, like "Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast"

:scared1: :confused3

Interesting..... I didn't know that either. I expect some more detailed info and maybe if we are lucky some more exact dates like March/April/May 2012 to come at D23 Expo next week.

I remember watching Little Mermaid for the first time on VHS in 5th grade on the last day of school so I'd say it came out at least a year before that. I'm 30. Thanks for the young compliment :goodvibes I'll take them anyway I can get them nowadays.

Please let us know when you get back if you find out anything.
We're going in the srping of 2013 and I really thought the Beauty and the Beast area and Little mermaid ride would be open.

Is a specific date or month listed for the opening of Storybook Circus? 2012 is a big time frame to work with ....

I saw that too and was disappointed. First they took away the plans for Pixie Hollow now the Princess areas sound like they're not going to be ready until 2013 - ugh! I must confess I'm really not excited about the Storybook Circus idea.

I didn't see a specific date to answer the PP question.

That works out good for me I think. Our youngest will be tall enough for the newly themed barnstormer by 2013. The following year she should be the perfect age for princess themed attractions!

I was 13 when Little Mermaid came out. I was absolutley obbessed with it....

Little Mermaid came out in '89 and Beauty and the Beast in '91. I was 10 and 12.

I was 12 when The Little Mermaid was released in '89. Of course, being late to the game I didn't see it until four years later when I was 16.

I was also waiting until December 2012 to go back to WDW to see the ride since everything I read up until now said that the ride would open in late 2012.

Hmmm,
That is strange. I would have thought the Mermaid would open first. It's hard to close the parks most popular ride without opening another one first. Maybe they were just announcing the opening of a complete land and Mermaid is still going to open first. After all it is just one ride so maybe they wanted the catchiness of an entire land opening.
However, Dumbo is just basically a simple Carni ride so maybe they can move it pretty quick. That or maybe they're not going to move the old Dumbo at all and just build the new one completely from scratch?
The refurb of the coaster is nothing and would be over quick.

I have read that they are leaving the old Dumbo ride up until the new one is open. and I am sure that they want to pretty up the area where the old Dumbo would be... So I guess it makes sense that Storybook Circus will be up and running first....
I was just so excited about the "real Fantasyland"! ;)

I was 5 when "The Little Mermaid" came out. I am now a 27 year old parent to an 8 month old. So yup - pretty accurate! :)

Indications have always been that the Storybook Circus would open first, possibly as early as summer 2012. This makes sense since the changes in that area are not as complicated as the other areas, and before the rest of the area can be completed Dumbo has to move.

I think we will see Storybook Circus open first, BatB and LM open together second, and the mine coaster open last.

I feel REALLY young. I wasn't even born when The Little Mermaid came out and I was about a month old when Beauty and the Beast (I was born in October 1991 and B&TB was released in November) XD :rotfl:

I'm not too thrilled with this news about the Circus opening first. I've found it pointless, since the plans were announced...especially since I don't like circuses since I'm terrified of clowns :confused3

I was really hoping for the B&TB and TLM sections would open first. I'm bummed :sad2:

I also heard that that Mine train may not be happening now because people wouldn't fit in the ride cars (a la Harry Potter...how did Universal resolve that?). I didn't hear what they'd put instead.

There were some rumors flying around recently that the Mine Train might get canceled because of problems with the swinging effect, gut this rumor has been pretty well unsubstantiated but some reliable insiders.

We should know for sure when they talk about the Fantasyland expansion at D23 this weekend. If they don't say much about the mine train, then it might be in trouble.

.

Funny, I feel OLD! I was 18 when Mermaid came out, and was 20, serving the in army in Germany when BATB made it to the big screen! I remember taking my oldest to see Aladdin at the post theater.....:scared1:

and I am feeling REALLY old. Celebrated my 53rd in the MK and Epcot on the 15th; here with my 15 yr old DD and 23 yr old son. (and hubby). I grew up on Bambi and Dumbo, and I was 31 when Little Mermaid came out. I am no longer a parent demographic. awp!
