Can someone please explain to me the facination with Stormalong Bay?? I stayed at the Beach Club 2 years ago, disliked the hotel and hated that pool, if I wanted to go swimming with sand I would go to the beach. I keep reading about how popular it is and I just don't get it!

I am adult female, without children to watch and I love the lazy river portion. I love to swim in circles!
My second favorite DVC pool is the Springs Pool at VWL!

Just came home from Orlando yesterday. We stayed at the Beach Club Villas in a nice 2-bedroom villa. The trip is always great and too short.

As far as the pool goes we love it. The water slide is a favorite of my 3 teens. Yes, it has a sand bottom. I find it softer than concrete. There are plenty of places to go in the pool of various depths. There is also a small lazy river.

Everyone has there own tastes. I dislike things my friends love. If you don't like the pool don't go back. If you're staying at Disney there are lots of hotels and pools to choose from to meet your tastes.

The important thing is make sure YOU are happy. Vacations are too few to ever have something that does not please you 100%. Enjoy your next trip!!! :thumbsup2

I asked what the facsination is with this pool and why it is so popular and why people liked it so much, I am fully aware I have choices in life thanks

Our family LOVED Stormalong Bay and this what they say:

-sand bottom was super fun
-sand castle building is unique at a pool
-felt like we were at the beach with no waves
-the slide was fun and long and you never knew where you were at
-whirlpool was awesome
-lazy river was long, never boring

I would say there was something for all of us, that was the appeal to me as the mom. Everyone was completely entertained and happy all at once, which is hard to do with 4 kids! Personally, I also liked the layout, it was pretty and unique.

Hope that answers some of your wonderings...

We love everything that was stated plus Beaches and Cream nearby to boot. We love SAB.

Is this the pool that is right in front of Beaches and Cream? We were at Beaches and Cream last year but didn't know which resort (BCV or BWV) we were at.

My 12 & 9yo DDs give it an "eh". We were at the YC 2 years ago for their first experience, and we just did a one night in June before a scrapbook show I was doing. I got BCV on points for the night, thinking we'd just chill at SAB all afternoon. DDs decided they'd rather go to Epcot/DHS after about 30 minutes in the pool (and these are girls who spend HOURS in the AKL pool, Holiday Inn pools, rinky dink pool in our backyard...) Both of them say they don't get what the big deal is, it's just a big pool with sand. They also prefer the slides at AKV and SSR (and CBR) over SAB b/c they say it hurts.

We've got 5 nights at YC coming up next month, so I'm hoping they change their mind and enjoy it for awhile anyway!

I'm not an SAB fan myself - I think its a difficult pool to watch kids in, but.

Its beautifully landscaped.

It has zero entry - many pools at Disney don't - which is great for toddlers and preschoolers.

It has a great slide plus a toddler slide

You didn't like the sand bar/sand bottom, but obviously other people think its very cool.

There is a river you can float around in tubes on.

Plus the regular "pool" portion of the pool is very nice.

To me, the huge pluses are that zero entry and the availability of a toddler slide. For us, Luna Park is home and its a much easier pool to watch kids in - but when the kids were preschoolers we had the opportunity to use SAB - and it was a much better pool for them at that age. Luna Park only has the big slide, and its DEEP.

We just got back from BCV and our ds12 and dd9 loves SAB. They enjoyed the slide, whirlpool and floating around the lazy river on their noodles. The sand area is also unique to SAB, which my dd enjoyed.

It is an awesome pool to sit by and relax. I commented to DH that I felt like I was at a beach resort rather than a theme park. It is beautiful. We liked the sand bottom better than concrete.

Love the decor, love the lazy river, love the atmosphere. I love the sand bottom pool it allows me to have the beach and wdw at the same time. If I go to the Beach, I don't get Epcot. Why do you need an explaination? It's just like WDW some people "get it" some don't.

Well it is the Beach Club... So sand is expected..

I loved the pool. My DS's loved. It's a beautiful pool with something for everyone. The slides are excellent. Perfect for the ages of my DS's 6 and 4.

Well I think you've said it all. I personally love SAB, Yes, it's got sand, but it's like a "controlled" beach. It's also HUGE, it's not just a big square pool like most resorts, it has the pirate ship waterslide and as far as sand goes, it's beautiful fine white sand. It's got the snack/drink bar in the middle, and an ice cream shop right next to it.

Of course, if you truly hate sand, then I would indeed stay far away from it.

Well, Tozzie - it's like this....

Many WDW visitors do not live anywhere near a beach, some have never been to a waterpark. Some are just loyal BC/YC fans for many other reasons. I can only share my perspective, and I actually kind of agree with you...

Last summer, we got an awesome rate at YC. I checked out after 3 days of our 10 day trip and moved to WL. Although I found the resort and the grounds lovely (and convenient) - it just wasn't my style. SAB was crowded,messy-looking and full of chairs for folks lounging in the sand and water.

So at first I could not fathom my negative reaction.:confused3

Then - DUH - I realized that I live and work in a beach community for many many years now - and Ihave the often unacknowledged luxury of a sandy beach anytime I want it!

And that is why WDW has something for everyone, for every taste and mood, for every visitor from any geographical location. How awesome is that?? I have cousins from the Midwest who would go berserk for SAB.

Just not me! But I respect that what sends one DIS'er into gales of pixiedust may not even sprinkle another...that's what makes these boards so fascinating!
