I have a 6 yr old son 48 1/2" in Nov on our trip we stayed a BC our resort of choice --1st time ever he went down the big slide - Yes it is deep over his head and rushing water is a good description - We did the little slide first as in the past visit a life guard there was talking to us I explained how he wanted to try the big slide she asked him to swim a little in the pool and watch as long as they can take about 6 strokes and stay afloat you will be able to catch them --- she inst. that when he goes down for me to wait at the rope on the PROPER side all the way to the right when facing the slide exit....when my son came down we inst him to start swimming directly to his left the force of the water only made him take about 2 strokes and I grabed him and took him under the rope - All was good doing it this way!

Same experiance here, they won't let them drown, but the will tell you not to go again.

My girls have pretty much done most of the pool slide at WDW. Last Nov we stayed at YBC for my DDs to try SAB. They are 10, 7 and 2yo. The 7 & 10 yo went down the slide once. They found it a pain to go "out" across to the entrance. Just wasn't worth it to them. THEY LOVED the whirlpool. I couldn't get them out of there! My 2yo like the kiddie slide but the water was ICE cold even for us coming from the frozen tundra. Her favo was the shallow sand bottom pool. Actually her sisters had fun in there with her too.

They like the Poly slide BUT its dark and REALLY fast. Much faster then SAB.

AKL has a "basic" slide which I like because I could see them go out of the pool and down the slide. That really is a PIA at SAB.

They loved GF pool and slide. Also CSR resort slide is open, long and fun. My DD has been going on that one since she was 3yo with a vest on.

as much as people love the whirlpool the lifeguards are not too fond of it. Mainly b/c there it can become really crowded really quickly with tweens and sometimes they have a hard time getting out of it. The lifeguard that is at the bottom of the slide is also partly responsible for watching the whirlpool, the other lifeguard in the next area also has to watch the whirlpool area as well.

Prince of Thieves is sharing some very good information about this pool. Except for the kiddie areas I truly do not feel that SAB is an enjoyable pool for young, inexperienced swimmers. I truly could not recommend this pool for any child that can not swim along without an adult assisting them.

There are other resorts in the same price range such BW Inn that have a much more enjoyable situation with young kids.
