Stormalong Bay Refurb?

I just got off the phone with Member services and they confirmed that SAB will be closed from January until "late March"

So far nothing has shown up on Disney's travel agent refurb bulletin. It's odd that MS would know about such info before they start circulating it to TAs.

I will keep checking and report back if anything appears.

Thank you for reporting back to us. While I'm not happy that when I finally get around to staying there the pool will be undergoing refurb, at least it placates me somewhat to know the entire pool won't be closed.

DisDayDreamer, thanks for that photo!

I asked him about it and he said "You know, I think we just got an email about that" and put me on hold.

I didnt ask if the whole pool would be shut down, but I think it will be one section at a time, like last time.

Same thing happened this summer for folks like me staying at BC Resort...

Refurb was happening on roof and rooms...Never were any guests notified who had concerns about renovation..I fully understand that refurbishment/remodeling is a "necessary" evil, however, guests should be advised of any renovation during their stay so they can make alternate plans if the renovation doesn't "sit well with them"...

I think there were some folks unhappy about the Beach Club with the renovation and being "kept in the dark"..

I've read that several folks got "magical" upgrades, including concierge upgrade at the Beach Club late July/Aug, perhaps rumor got around about renovation.

I myself got a "magical" BC upgrade from standard to concierge!

Was Outstanding/Awesome!!! Love, love the BC Resort!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

After booking day by day for the BCV's at the 11 month window for president's week I decided to move. We were able to transfer to the BWV and will go to BCV on our next visit---. I like both resorts a lot but stormalong bay is the seller for Beach Club . Member services was not sure of the rehab order and suggested we use Boardwalk's pool. That's the beauty of DVC there is always next time. Barb

That would put a pretty big dent in someone's vacation plans if they showed up and SAB was closed!

Member Services said they will be sending letters out soon to people with Reservations. Barb

I really hope they do it in stages like some posters have said. Our trip in Jan for the marathon is our first visit to BCV and I was really excited to experience SAB. I was prepared for the weather to be too cold to go in as it sometimes has been over some past marathon weekends. But closed all together is not cool!

I can't imagine it would be closed the whole time through March. To have SAB closed over President's week vacations and into Spring Break time in March will upset a lot of people!

Let's keep our fingers crossed it's done in sections! :thumbsup2

Stages would be nice, at least you have something to enjoy.

Well, I just called MS to ask about SAB being closed in stages and was told that the complex will be closed for "magical maintenance" (her words not mine!) starting January 2nd until April. I asked about it being done all at once or in stages and she said it is usually done in stages but the complex will be closed and I should use the pool at BWV. :sad2: Still not quite a clear answer, but I am disappointed since we don't have plans to stay at BCV for a while after this trip.

When we were there President's Week (Feb) during the previous refurb. The big slide and the main section of the pool was closed. However the shallow sand bar area, lazy river and pirate ship(with little slide) were open. As we were leaving they were opening the main area.

That's good news that they have kept some areas open in the past. Maybe MS doesn't know the extent of the refurb yet so that's why I was left to assume the whole complex is closed and to use the pool over at BWV. Over on the BC resort thread someone called the BC directly and the CM they spoke with had no knowledge of a refurb! :confused3

This all could a be a non-issue for our trip in Jan as we've been there for the marathon before and the low temps reached into the mid 20's! :scared1:

We'll be there for eleven days, I'm sure, based on past experiences, we should get at least two or three days warm enough to swim, probably more. I just don't want my DD to see the great pool, know there's a great pool (I've showed her photos) and not be able to use it. I'd switch to BWV right now if I knew the entire pool would be closed, as would many others I suppose. I wish Disney would just give us the darn information already.

I sure hope it's done in stages. We just booked a few weeks ago and nothing was mentioned. One of the reason we chose the resort was for the pool and three months is a long time to close the entire complex.

DW and I took our first adults only trip to WDW last April and staryed at BCV for the first time. Needless to say we LOVED IT. Now we are taking our three boys with us (March 09) to BCV for the week.. After spending countless hours telling them how much they would love the pool area I wont know what to say if it ends up closed:confused3

First I gotta say again the Disboards are a blessing. :thumbsup2 After reading this post the other day I checked all the usual places on the web to see if the pool will be closed. Nope, not on the schedule anyplace............I checked. Not even on the Disney sight though, other closings are listed.

After sleeping on it, I knew my friends here on the Dis. have all the scoop so I called and indeed the pool IS scheduled to be closed Jan. to the end of March for maintenance. The MS person was very nice, though when I asked you could hear her first get quit then in a shy kinda voice say "yes.....it's scheduled for maintenance from Jan. to March" then she, in a nice way, tried to convince me the maintenance would be most likely completed by my trip, March 21 - 28. She's probably right, but I go to the BCV for the pool.

Fortunately, there was an opening at VWL so I got to change my reservation. This will be my first stay at VWL and I'm so excited. :dance3: I'll be back to BCV soon. I suspect the maintenance at SAB is kinda hush hush :rolleyes1 so people don't do what I just did and change m' ressie to other locations.

Anyway, thanks everyone for keeping us informed.

Magicdad

PS I did ask if the pool was scheduled for maintenance at VWL during this time and I was told "not currently."

Wow, now I'm not sure what to do. I think maybe I'll stay put and hope the pool is closed in phases as it has been in the past. If I were a DVC member or booked through CRO on cash I'd probably switch resorts, but being a renter I just don't think I want to inconvenience the nice woman I rented from any further by having her try to change my reservation.

Magicdad, that's great you were able to switch to VWL! :thumbsup2 We have yet to stay there but can't wait!

We will not be switching even though SAB will be closed for our trip. We want to stay near EPCOT for the walk home from the marathon and my DB is going on this trip and he likes to do the parks commando style! But he's single w/o kids so he can! :rotfl: Plus my parents are booked at the BCV through AAA (we didn't have enough points for them) so it'd be too hard to try and switch all of us. And the only other resort we'd want for this trip is BWV (to be close) and according to the new availablility thread, the room types we need are booked. Besides, even though SAB will be closed, I still want to experience BCV, it looks beautiful and I always hear good things about it!
