Stormalong Bay Pool Closed For Rehab

Okay, so I called DVC and ask specifically what was going to be closed. After being put on hold for a long time. I was told that it was only the SLIDE area. The lazy river area was scheduled to be opened. However, at this time (today) the lazy river was closed due to a mechanical failure and they are waiting for a part to be available to fix it. While they won't guarantee that it will be open, the CM thought it would be....

Can anyone currently at BCV confirm if the lazy river is indeed closed down? It sounded like it was an unexpected thing.

I have waited 6 years to secure a reservation at BCV! I finally got it and now I won't be able to enjoy the one thing that makes that resort special.

For what it is worth, the women I spoke with was very nice and I understand that things need to be fixed and maintained. But I also think we deserve more than a 2 week notice.

I feel badly for those staying at BCV who were looking forward to using the entire SAB complex. We've stayed there 3x and it is really a great pool. I would be quite unhappy, for sure.

Having said that, I am a bit annoyed (ok, more than a bit) that guests are being told to use the BWV pool. We are staying at BWV April 14-19 in a standard view 1 BR. We had BLT booked (1 BR standard view; we own there) but switched about 2 months ago. The BWV pool isn't that big to begin with, and now they are telling the guests of 3 additional resorts (BC, YC, and BCV) it's ok to go use that pool? We take a couple hour pool break each day and I really hope we can find chairs. Ugh, this stinks for all those affected.

The slide will be closed.

The area on this map that contains Sinking Sands, Bubblin Bay, and Whirling Waters will be closed. It will be drained and all that sand removed to work on the filtration system.

Everything else will be open.

I am confused by this picture. I looks like it would be impossible to drain the slide area without also draining the lazy river area too. It looks like it all connected. Can you pass under the foot bridges? It loos like toucan swim under them. No? I have never been so I don't know if this is even possible.

Ok, here is what is going on.

Disney is open 365 days 24/7, someone is always going to be inconvenienced.

It is not the best situation, but honestly I don't know how you can expect them to keep everything repaired and in good working order without this happening to someone.

If you are upset it happened to you and wish it had happened to someone else, well sorry that says more about you than Disney.

Yeah it says you are a normal human being. Yes, I totally admit to being so selfish to actually want a great vacation including a nice pool area. Yes when a hurricane hit Jamaica the day before my honeymoon causing us to miss our cruise I was upset and ** gasp*** evil me wished it had not happen or it had happen another week (thereby effecting some one else).

Where is the memo that says disappointments have to roll off some ones back and we're not allowed to be upset. Jeez.

Yes I know in the grand scheme of world affairs it's minor but it's still my hard earned and much anticipated vacation and I still wish it was closed another time. So I guess that puts me right up there with Jafar in evilness.

I just don't understand why we come down so hard on folks who simply express disappointment in their plans being changed. Baffles me

I can help - have been in SAB dozens of times...
SAB is actually three discrete, unconnected bodies of water. The largest extends from the slide all the way back and up to the hot tubs at the center of the picture above. The middle section, containing the lazy river is a separate pool. The third discrete pool is the zero-entry kiddie pool area, with the sandbar. The footbridge at the top (next to hot tub) does not cross water - all others do. Unfortunately, the section that they are apparently closing is the largest, and most enjoyable for our family of older kids and adults.

Well I was more upset about it being a "reminder" than by the actual rehab. If this is a problem that was recently found, of course it needs to be fixed. 4 years ago or so, this time of the year, my spring break, SAB WAS being rehabbed, I was glad I was at SV in BWV. This year, I figured April was beyond a scheduled rehab time.

BWV people, I really enjoy the BC & BCVs basic pools, I don't expect to go over to your pools! Here's hoping things aren't going to be very bad.i

I simply see no benefit to whining about something for the sake of whining. It accomplishes nothing. Just not my way of handling changes I know could not have been avoided.

I will be the first to complain about something done for no good reason, but repairs are necessary for safety and to maintain the standard everyone expects from Disney.

And I would never wish it on someone else.

The pool is divided into sections. So yes they can drain the area that the slide empties into without draining the lazy river. Some you can swim under, other you have to get out of that section and walk over to the other section.

The bottom line is that over 2/3's of the SAB is going to be closed, which happens to include the main area where all of the activities are centered during a holiday week. This is absolutely devastating to learn 1 wk before heading out on our dream vacation, spending all our hard earned money.

I do not know what else to say other than this is going to be a major problem for YC/BC to compensate?

I think "disappointing" is a better word than "devastating". Cancer is devastating, part of a pool being closed during a vacation is disappointing. We have had both events happen in our family and I would take the closed pool any day of the week.

This is an unfortunate but necessary maintenance event. I hope everyone who will be at Disney, and specifically at BCV during this time, will still be able to have a great trip.

Certainly not a hero by any stretch of the imagination, but did know the letters were confusing and I have friends in management there so I called and got info directly from them as to what will be open and what will be closed.

All I was attempting was to share accurate information. Nothing else.

I just happen to believe that the resort management hates when this type of thing happens as much as the guest does. They don't control when the pool gets fixed yet they will be the ones on the receiving end of those that simply can not accept that it could have been avoided.

If I truly thought Disney sat around and tried to come up with ways to ruin my vacation, I would never give them another penny of my money.

The fact is hard earned, dream vacations do not come every other week. They take a year or more of planning and they are often targeted at a very specific location, for very specific reasons and now that main reason is being taken away 1 wk from our departure. I am not saying that we can not have a good time, but I do expect to be heavily compensated for this major inconvenience and this will be a devastating revelation for our children.

Hi Sammie!! I'm glad you filled us in with the information you have. So, I thank you for that!!! This is why I love the Dis. I know I can get important information that helps me plan great WDW vacations.

I am one of those guests that is not happy by the SAB refurb. However, having the lazy river section up and running does help a bit. I still believe that Disney should have planned it at a less busier time... Though I do understand that maintenance is necessary.

To those comparing this to cancer.... Really? C'mon I think we all know a pool being closed isn't as "devastating" as a cancer diagnosis...but it still stinks to have this happen after a year of planning and shelling out a lot of money for your one family vacation of the year. As a mother of a neuroblastoma survivor, I find the comparison insulting and insensitive. I'm also willing to bet the insensitive comments are coming from people who are not going to be there for the SAB closure.

If you have ever stayed at BCV you will know that SAB is an experience and the main reason we love staying there. To have the entire avtivity section of the pool closed during a peak week is inexcusably a horrible decision. There are numerous guests that are paying $300-$400 per night during Easter week with SAB being a big part of people's decision to pay top dollar to stay there. Why shouldn't we be expressing our frustration and disappointment with Disney especially with such a short notice and due to high occupancy, there is very little chance of being able to switch to another resort!

What you don't seem to be understanding is they did not choose this time. The filtration system in that area is "broke" it needs fixing.

I am sure they would have loved to do it another time.

They did not pick this time just to irritate the guests.

They know guests are going to be upset, do you really think they want to listen to all of that, if they could have avoided it.

DVCJONES please re-read my post as there was no comparison between SAB being closed and getting a terrible disease. The example was used to point out that the language and emotional response to the closing of part of a pool (for necessary maintenance) is not "devastating". It is "disappointing", "frustrating", "angering", and possibly "unfair", but it is not "devastating".

I was at Disney this past October for 3 days when it rained 7+ inches over the course of our three day trip. We really couldn't go anywhere outside. It was bad, but we figured out a way to enjoy each other's company and make the best of it.

I hope that all of you enjoy your time together with your families!
