It is definitely a cost savings measure and nothing to do with anything else except maybe a life guard shortage. We have been staying at Y&B Club since it first opened and it used to be opened from 9am-11pm every day from the middle of June until after Labor Day. A few years ago the pool hours went from 9am-9pm and then last year they were further reduced to 10am-8 pm. I actually have more of a problem with the late opening than the early closing. I think 10 o'clock in the morning is just to darn late for most people with small children, the day is half way over by that time, not to mention how hot it already is at that time of day in the middle of July.
I also believe that they HATE people sitting around by the pool enjoying themselves. Disney wants you in the park spending money in their gift shops and restaurants. They don't make a dime on you when you are frolicking around the lazy river at SAB. If they wanted you at SAB, Hurricane Hannah's would stay open beyond 5 o'clock in the afternoon but they don't so it closes at that time.
I have written Sam Pensula in the past to inform him of our dislike of the change but I assume unless more people write and express their disappointment, nothing will change.
