Storm A Long Bay?????

Would a 17 year old dd, 14 year old ds, 9 year old ds love SAB? How about us parents?????? What all is there?

We've been to storm a long bay a few times but never swam there. I, as an adult, think it looks really fun. The sand bottom pool and all the different little lagoons and on top of this they have a great slide. The only negative I've heard is that the kids are out of sight and quite a distance away to get up on the slide. I'm sure the veteran BCV people will help you out here...

Well we've been to SAB with a 5, 8 and 10 year old, as well as a 7, 10 and 12 year old (i.e. twice over two years ) and both times had a great time. The pool is huge. The sand bottom makes it unlike most pools and is great. And the Pirate ship waterslide is the icing on the cake. If you're staying at the Beach Club, you *must* check it out!

You will love staying there! Whether the adults enjoy the pool will largely depend on when you go. If it is terribly crowded we head to the quiet pool. This past trip in October, we found SAB to be great. I think we were the only ones in the pool a couple of times. When our daughter used to go with us, we could hardly tear them away from SAB to go into the parks.

We stayed in the BC for 9 nights over Christmas and loved it - like a previous poster said, we had to pull the kids, 13 and 10 away from the pool to go the parks, plus they have fun activities such as bingo, volleyball etc. It is now our favourite resort (and pool)

I am so excited. Last Aug. we stayed 3 nights at BWV and we had breakfast at Cape May's one day and the kids thought staying at BCV would be so much fun. We can't wait. I am tempted to add another day to our ressie but I was trying to only week days.

My husband and son both like SAB. If I never have to go there again, I will be happy. I prefer the Dunes Cove pool because you can easily get a lounge chair. You usually don't have to fight the little ones for the hot tub. And I don't like the sinking sands OR the swift current and depth of SAB.

With kids that age, if they are all swimmers - chances are really good you'll love it.

We are currently in "avoiding SAB" mode - probably for another year. Our kids are eight and nine and I'm still most comfortable when I can watch them in the water. SAB is a really difficult pool to do that in. But at your kids ages - they probably don't need to be watched.

I tend to agree with Deb. I thought SAB was great for two things -- sunning in the lounge chairs (if you can get one) and the little kids sandy beach area.

The rest of the pool, to me, was not very good for swimming. It's really a collection of small pools with some kind of feature to them -- the "lazy river," a whirlpool, etc. The "lazy river" is really nothing but a 50-foot or so diameter circle -- disappointing. But there is no place to actually swim.

Our DD5 has been swimming since she was 1 (we have a pool at home and Mommy was a competitive swimmer in college), so we didn't worry about her, other than to watch her going up to the slide and coming out the bottom. But by the end of the day, she was asking to go back to OKW because she liked the slide better. We stayed at BCV 5 days, only swam two, and she asked to leave after about an hour the second day.

One thing I thought was quite good about SAB was the lifeguards. They were very active when we were there, and seemed to be right on top of everything.

I am planning to book my vacation for this coming up summer. We go every summer and stay at the Wilderness Lodge...which we absolutely love!

We have children ages 14, 6 and 3. We usually go with other families who have similar age children.

Last year we gave the older bunch(the teenagers)more freedom and let them go to the lobby ...the snack bar and the game room. They were in their glory.

Because of the lay out of the Wilderness Lodge I felt very comfortable doing this. Everything is contained in the same building.

We are dying to try another Vacation Club Villa but worried about their layouts...and that I won't be comfortable letting the older ones go!

Also the pool at the Beach Club sounds amazing...but alot of work trying to follow the 6 year old and the 3 year olds...did I mention the 3 year
old are twins? Please some advice!

I was very comfortable with our 13 and 10 yr old in the resort, in fact we let them go to the pool alone ahead of us, or come back after if they were in the middle of a volleyball game. DS 13 would go refill his mug on his own. 3 year olds at SAB? We used SAB (staying at BW - but the BW slide was closed so we had SAB privledges) when our kids were 4 and 5. Two adults and two children. And at that age with one on one, I thought it was OK - but a lot of work. I personally would not want to move to "zone defense" at that pool. Once they were old enough to be in the water independent, but still require watching, the thought of SAB sends me for my hair dye. But I may be a more or less hovering mom than you - and kids and water is one of my buttons.

(You haven't lived until you've jumped in a Minnesota lake in November after a three year old - refreshing).

I have faith in the lifeguards - SAB has a ton of them - and full knowledge that if I lost my kids for ten minutes at that pool - even if they turned up perfectly safe playing in the sand - I'd take three years off my life.

SAB is a lot of work for families with smaller children. The "lazy river" is very deep and has very swift current and is very close to the little kids' area. It is kind of between the childrens' area (closer to the YC) than the slide, sinking sands, jets (closer to the BC).

Like someone else said, you need to have at least one adult per small child at SAB unless the small children stay right with each other.

We weren't in the villas - in the BC itself. We were at the Poly for 4 nights and BC for 9 (reason behind this was the pricing around Christmas). We are now looking to buy into VWL and BCV to enjoy the best of both worlds and ease of movement to the parks. We really, really loved the BC and if had the choice of only once place it would be there.

Thanks for your reply. How do you like the Boadwalk. Is everything centrally located...the snack bar....the game room..the pool. Could you share any info on the Boadwalk. I always stay at the WLV. I am like you a hovering mom..I would never be able to handle the pool at SAB!

I am a hovering mom... and it sounds like I would go out of my ming at SAB!

What do you think of the Boadwalk? I know where everything is at WLV. I love how everything is centrally locate. How is the Boadwalk set up. One of the posts I read yesterday gave the impression that everything is spread out. Any info about the Boadwalk?

The main thing that the BWV is known for is the exceptionally long hallways. And only one bank of elevators. All the two bedroom villas are lockoffs. Meaning they are a combination of a one bedroom and a studio. There are no dedicated two bedrooms at BWV.

Some people don't like the fact that the only place to get something to eat is on the Boardwalk. There really isn't anything in the villas or in the BWInn.
