Storage question - basement or attic?

We just built a new attic space over our garage. I have some clothes to store - DD's special dresses, old Halloween costumes, etc. Would it be better to store them in the attic in a Rubbermaid container or in the basement? Our basement is damp, and we did get water once in 10 years but not since we got the new leafguard gutters. Also need to store DD's dolls and Barbie's, she is 8 (sob) and done playing with them. Will the attic heat ruin them?

I use the attic for storing clothes and Barbies, etc. (We have the damp basement issue as well.)

So far, the attic has worked fine. Your DD is finished with Barbies all ready?

I have junk stored in both places...
We have an attic over the garage and over our bedroom closet(haven't put anything there yet) and we have room in the basement..

Don't think the attic heat will ruin them, but I wouldn't want to take a chance..

Yes, she hasn't played with the Barbies in many months, although she does play with Mary Kate & Ashley. She is more into arts and crafts. Her room is very small, we have to keep it lean and mean! I always tell her when a toy comes in, one has to go out, so we are getting ready for X-mas.

Things in your attic will roast. The only thing that we store there are dried flowers that Sue uses in her floral business. Everything else in in the basement or in the shed behind our house. I make it a habit of putting everything in the basement and in our garage up on blocks to keep ground moisture from getting in. The plastic totes are an excellent way of storing things in a basement. I suppose that under the worst circumstances, they would even float. Good luck with your storage issues. I think I need a bigger dumpster.

We store everything in the attic because we don't have a basement. We don't put anything valuable up there (like DH's baseball cards), but nothing has ever been ruined.
