Stopping Spam emails

Back in the spring my email address (and my cc!) were used by some lowlifes to order things on the internet and to respond to a bunch of pop ups--you know the ones that say WIN AN IPOD NOW--CLICK HERE! That kind of junk.

The cc was immediately canceled and they moved on. But of course now I get spam from every corner of the internet. My spam blocker catches most of it-- probably hundreds a day-- but I still get between 20-100 spam emails a day that my spam blocker doesn't get. Today has been very bad for some reason.

Is there any way to try to block the rest of these or try to get my email off of the "list"? I get 20 emails a day wanting me to buy a Snuggie, or offering me free gift cards or jobs. I have tried blocking but that doesn't work.

I know the only 100% way to get rid of them is to change my email address but I want to save that as a very last resort.

I think that you just have to deal with it for now. I've heard that if you hit the unsubscribe buttons that they might email you with even more force because they know that someone is there.

Ugly I know but it does appear to taper down over time.

I would just get a new e-mail address and keep the other one active for a month or two, until all of your contacts are notified. There is no way I would want to deal with that much spam on a daily basis.

Yeah. I know that is what I really need to do. I just really love my email address and didn't want to have to change it. Why couldn't they have stolen one of the addresses I have that I don't care about!

This is really getting out of hand and taking up too much of my time to deal with the spam.

I currently have in my in-box a free washer and dryer, a $1000 Sams Club gift card, a free supply of viagra (I'm a woman), the secret to getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in government grants, the ability to regrow the bald spot on my head (that I don't have), a notice that I've won the Nigerian lottery (I just need to give them all my banking info to get the money transferred), an offer to enlarge my chest, and some chickadee named ~Candy~ that wants to (*shudder*) show me her moves.

Now where else in the world can you have all that at your fingertips?

Spam (in all it's forms) stinks but you *can* do something if you take some actions and put forth some effort.

First - do NOT respond to the emails, not even the "unsubscribe" or "don't email me again" links.

Second - the suggestion for mail washer (or similar) was very good since these utilities will send a "bounce" message making it look like your email address is non-existent. You can select which senders get a "bounce" message.

Third - start submitting Spammers to sites like Spam Cop and Sam Spade. Get on google and look for Spam reporting sites and submit the sender addresses.

These I have been getting don't even have "unsubscribe" options. I tried some blocks but they all come in with different info so I don't know how I could select senders? I will see what I can find on that program.

I use Spamfighter and it is awesome and gettting the spam out of my inbox.
