Just got back from a great 6 day visit to BCV. 2 bedroom was delightful. Amazing service and great value for our investment. What I wanted to mention is that we decided to take some time to visit Vero Beach. We heard a lot about VB over the few years we have been members but never had seen it in person.
I was so impressed by its beauty, unbeleivable views of the ocean and hospitality. The place is a gem. We had just come up from 5 days in Ft Lauderdale at an ocean front resort. The Beach and water was so clean
at Vero and the water was sky blue. We loved our little retreat down south but if I had to do it again Vero would be my first choice. The quiteness of a farming community free from traffic with this Disney resort makes me proud to be a DVC member. Still glad to be home but had one blessed time. Dennis

Well that sold me. We have plans to leave (from Maryland) next Thursday on our Disney adventure but we don't check into AKL until Sunday morning. So basically we have three nights to kill before Sunday. Maybe we can get a cash reservation and go down to VB for at least two of those three nights.

Y-ASK

Dennis, thank you for that post! We are heading to BCV August 7th to the 14th. We are driving from NY for this trip since it's summer and we have about two weeks of time. I have been debating should be stop by Vero for a couple of nights on the way home, and I think you just answered that for me!

We are staying at Vero for six nights in August for our first trip on points as new members. After reading your post, I am pretty excited and counting the days!!! Thanks!

Also wanted to mention we drove up from Lauderdale and we were all hungry after two hours in the car. We decided to have lunch at shutters. What a delightfull restuarant. The food was awsome. You can see the ocean as you are eating. If you are like me and love the ocean this looks like a facility that gives your senses the thrill of mother nature and the tranquility which all of us really need so often. Disney World makes you feel guilty if your not going constantly but Vero is the perfect place to rest and get refreshed. Dennis

I know that we were as happy as can be with our Memorial weekend get-away to BCV/VB. Now, a summer/warm weather trip to WDW won't seem complete to us without a stop at VB. DH isn't a "beach" person, but he agrees it's just a perfect place to relax and he does enjoy the pool.

TammyAlphabet, that's a great trip to look forward to!

I just reserved a week at the Jersey Shore because I miss the ocean. What is the water like at Vero? Rough, normal, shark sightings? :rolleyes1
It would be a nice change if the water is usable! Nothing like an ocean swim.

I just returned from Cape May NJ and the surf temp was 61! The shark talk was around the Jersey shore last week, maybe around Brigantine.

VB over Memorial weekend was beautiful, maybe 78 degrees water temp. The waves were fine for swimming in, not too rough, and the color was a beautiful green. I thought it was every bit as nice as on a Caribbean beach. I like to snorkel, so it wasn't quite the same.

Glad you stopped by and saw how lovely the Vero resort is. I'm a little puzzled by the "farming community" concept. Vero is one of the wealthier communities in Florida. There is ranching and citrus farming out by Florida's Turnpike and I-95 but you find that near Orlando as well.

Pam, were you the person who had links to the Vero DVC neighbors? I'd love to have those if you still have them. Very interesting to see the condos around the resort.

I'm glad to hear that you liked VB DVC. My DW and I really enjoy it, too, and have stayed there many times since joining DVC. Our latest trip last year right after the hurricanes and its reopening were equally magical! :goodvibes

BTW, before the hurricanes went through you could not see the ocean from Shutters because the foliage was so high, the view was blocked. It was designed to shield the lights from the nesting turtles, I believe. The hurricanes removed much of this vegetation and dunes, but DVC has done an outstanding job repairing everything quickly. The rest of VB and parts south were not nearly in as good a shape at that time. I hope that they have recovered since then. I know that two of our favorites have reopened - Capatin Hiram's and Ocean Grill. However, I have notived that I can no longer access the "Black Pearl" website. Does anyone know if they are still operating in VB?

We stayed at Vero for the first time this past May it was great.
Loved the resort so relaxing.

We stayed at VB in '01 and had a lovely time!! I really loved the resort. We spent a lot of time in the Green Room watching the water and grabbing a drink. Coming from CA, it was really humid (August trip), so watching the ocean from our room was spectacular. The no seeums weren't as bad as we thought either!! My husband loved the ocean! He rented a kayak, swam, and enjoyed the peace and quiet!! I am not a beach person, therefore I went swimming, got a number of massages, and did a little resort shopping!

VB was a great way to wind down from our fast and furious week at OKW!! I think back fondly of our VB trip!!

Oh boy, we go next month and can't wait! Thanks for posting, now I'm getting even more excited! :cool1:

We stayed at VB first time in April and loved it! We own there and would have no qualms about spending regular vacations there should DVC ever prohibit us from using our points onsite.

We have never gone because after such a long drive south we haven't wanted to get into the van again! However, you guys have intrigued me. We are going to WDW this July into August for 11 nights - -a nice long time. If we drive down to Vero for the day, will be be able to pool hop, find a place to change, walk on the beach and then have a meal before returning? Is it a good day trip from WDW? I would love to see the ocean since I now live in the Midwest!

Thanks. :sunny:

Call the Vero resort and ask if it is OK. Pool hopping there is not usually allowed, but if the resort says it is OK, then you are all set. There are locker rooms for changing next to the pool. It is about a two+ hour drive. There are two restaraunts, poolside food and a nice lounge onsite, usually with live music in the evenings. You can have a nice lunch on the balconey of the lounge overlooking the ocean.

BeachBound9 -- I don't seem to have the link to the house that had a view of the beach like you get at Vero. I do have the link for Windsor which is right up the road and is a planned community for multi-millionaires and a link to a listing for a home in Orchid Island which is the development sort of catty corner to our "home". ;) Gives a flavor of the neighborhood.
