stopher1's Solo Adventures: WDW Jun '10

Amazing TR . . . thanks for taking so much time to share your thoughts and pictures. I am contemplating a solo trip for the first time and you have inspired me. I just might do it this year.

My long term memory is failing, but I remember saying the DL Holiday show (maybe a Believe version??) around 2003 was the best fireworks Disney had put on. But the 50th DL show was pretty freakin' awesome - better than I've ever seen at WDW.

Oh yeah, the Believe ones were very good too. But personally, I still think Remember is/was the best...yet.

I just showed your pictures from CIF to my DH. We really enjoyed looking at them as we tried to get on the balloon a few weeks ago on the last day of our vacation, but unfortunately they weren't going up due to high winds. Guess next trip we won't wait 'til the last day to try and go! Anyhow, it's amazing and pretty neat to try and look for all the landmarks. Great TR! :thumbsup2 Thanks for posting.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pics! Yeah, I hear you on not waiting. I wasn't even sure I would get on it this trip myself due to those daily afternoon storms. But I was determined to at least try! So very glad I did.

Thanks! There's just something about being there solo. If you can get beyond the stares in restaurants, because yes, I have done table service restaurants solo, just not this trip - and if you can get beyond the perception that something is "wrong" because a) the kids aren't with you... or b) the spouse or significant other isn't there, etc and just allow yourself to have fun - you should indeed be able to have a good time doing it. Not everyone is able to get beyond those hurdles, but once you do... it really can be just as much fun by yourself as when you are with other people - only in a different way.

I love being able to wake up and totally do something different than what I thought I might do when I went to bed the night before. I love being in a park and just doing nothing at all, or anything and everything. Sometimes I just people watch while enjoying a treat of some kind. Other times I go commando and do as much as I can (one trip I challenged myself by setting a time limit of 5 hours to see exactly how much I could do... and thanks to it being in January that time, I was able to do double what I originally thought I might be able to do). Sometimes I will enter a land and go in and out of every single attraction and shop, and only eat in that land. Other times I'll skip entire lands or parks. One trip I was able to hop between all 4 theme parks and a water park and DTD all in the same day - and yes, I rode multiple things in each park and the water park, and ate along the way. For me it's no longer really so much that I'm there by myself, but rather, I'm there to have some fun in a limited timespan... how much fun can I have? :)

So with that - I hope you DO go, and have a great time doing it!!

ok, im up to date!! way to much to comment on but as allways, great trip report and pics stopher!!! we have some of the same pics of the contempoary hanging on our dining room wall from our 25th anv. trip. you should go into the business of having families take there pics, you asking some questions about there trip and writing a trip report and putting it into book form for them.:thumbsup2 id buy it!!! (just remember my 15 percent royalties for the idea):lmao::lmao:

Loved your report! I too was originally a Disneylander, only getting into WDW as an adult, so LOTS of nostalgia for the MSEP. We were out at DL last month, and got to experience the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks and we were just blown away. Wishes just seems amateur in comparison!
You really packed a lot into just a short weekend - impressive! Those pesky children really slow us down!:rotfl:
Thanks for sharing it with us!:goodvibes

That parade looks fabulous! I hope they continue it at least until the end of September..... Thanks for another entertaining TR-:thumbsup2

What kind of camera do you use? I can not seem to get any good night shots of the castle or parades, they always come out blury with the lights.

It was a pleasure to be there, and a pleasure to share it. Thanks.

Just a fairly simple point and shoot Olympus Stylus Tough 10 Megapixel camera. It's not the greatest, but it does have some cool functions and settings that I've enjoyed playing with and learning more about. I can't wait to get back down there in September with my DD and try out some of the settings I learned to use this past week at Boy Scout Summer Camp with my sons. Hopefully I'll get some even better pics while my DD on our Daddy-Daughter Adventure.

I just found this and don't have time to read through 5 pages, so I'll have to catch up later, looking forward to reading more!
