Thanks teapot!

I'm lovin' it. Our beloved Lodge:love:.

I did the balloon ride in DTD when we went last Nov, that was so much fun!

Too much to quote, so I'll just throw in a few quick impressions...

First off, great pictures! :thumbsup2

You may have just convinced me to do the balloon at DTD. It might be kinda pricey if I try to take the entire family up there, but the views are amazing. It looks like a winner.

I have to agree with you about the style/theme of the Contemporary/BLT. Doesn't really do anything for me, either. Why is it that every time you mention the BLT, I get hungry? :confused3

Ah...the Wilderness Lodge. Best. Hotel. Ever. Everywhere you turn, there's another interesting angle for a photo. I could stare at these all day. In fact, maybe I will.

Love the TR and GREAT pictures! Can't wait to visit WL when we go for our Post-Christmas trip. Looking forward to seeing all the decorations.

Thanks for all the great pics!!!

My pleasure. :)

I knew you would like it!

Oh yeah. I had such fun up on that balloon. We've got a living history/interactive museum here in town that has one of those balloons too. In fact it's operated by the same company that does the one at DTD. Now I'm ready to go up in it too. I'm not sure if it goes up as high, but it sure does look cool each day as I drive home from work and I pass by. I've always loved being up in the air like that. When I was a kid a 2nd cousin of mine was/is a pilot, and he would take my brother and I up in his helicopter for rides. And I always loved the Parachute Drop at Knott's Berry Farm - they'd take you way up in 2-3 person buckets with parachutes attached to the top, and then let you go. That was awesome. Someday I want to go up in a real hot air balloon... every time I watch that balloon sequence in both Impressions des France and in Soarin' too - I think about that bucket list item.

Thanks to you both.

I hope you do try it Mark, it really was a LOT of fun.

Pass the chips please, I need more with my sandwich. :rotfl:

Stopher, I think I might have been a bird in a previous life!

My bucket list includes all things flying...

helicopter
real hot air balloon
glider
Ultra Lite if I have the guts!!

Finally I decided it was time to head over to the MK, so I walked down to the boat dock and waited just a few moments, since the boat was approaching. It was another enjoyable ride. :thumbsup2 I do love the boats.

The park was going to have EMH's that evening, and would then be open until 3 am. I was originally contemplating just staying for the whole thing, since I had a 5:35 am DME pick up... why not? But I did need to work on the plane and had a couple of conference calls to jump on as soon as the plane landed, so I really didn't feel that was the best strategy afterall. So common sense won out, and I decided I would leave just as soon as the fireworks were over. This would be the first night of the new Summer Nightastic! activities, and the new "Nightastic!" fireworks show at 10 pm. I didn't want to miss that. And of course, at 9 pm was my favorite Disney parade - the reason I HAD to be in the MK this evening... the Main Street Electrical Parade. :cool1:

I enjoyed heading up Main Street, and quickly turned in to Adventureland. I had just missed POTC the previous day, and did want to enjoy that. But I had no real plan of action, so I just kind of wandered. This was my first stop. I hadn't been inside of it for a number of years.

P6060315.jpg

But I hoped I wouldn't be disturbing the Robinsons... but then, they never do seem to be home when visitors come to call. :confused3 Huh. Not sure why.

After the arduous climb, and I got to come back down again. That was fun. Really. Not because of coming down, but rather because of the adorable little boy who kept stopping every 5-10 ft saying, "here daddy" and then posing against the rope bannister for his picture to be taken. The dad was so embarrassed and seemed to be flustered because he was making me go slowly, but I assured him it was no trouble. It was sweet. And I loved watching the little boy's face each time he would smile for the camera. It was so funny. Each and every smile was different, and just very cute. He was probably 3 or 4 - and it just made me smile and chuckle out loud. That dad, must have gotten about 50 pics on the way down those stairs. Too cute.

But yes, after that ardous climb, I just HAD to stop and get one of these little beauties. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

I then enjoyed POTC, and walked over to check out the FP distribution for Splash Mountain. It was so very hot, I really wanted to get wet. Thankfully I had my handy dandy, immediate FP card from the DVC gathering over at BLT a few hours earlier. I got one immediate, and one regular FP (for about an hour and a half later), and quickly got into the FP line. The standby line said 60 minutes. I literally walked the entire length of the FP queue all the way up up you give the CM your pass without meeting another FP holder. Then I practically walked right on the ride. It was great. Gotta love those immediate FPs! I ended up in the back row. Got wet, but not drenched. It felt nice.

I then walked over and thought about Big Thunder, but the standby was 45. No. Rode it yesterday. Move on. Headed over towards my favorite - the HM. The stated time was 15, but I was inside the stretching room in less than 10. :thumbsup2 It was a close call getting out of that attic, let me tell you, and thankfully I didn't become #1,000. They're still at 999 happy haunts there in Liberty Square!

Since I hadn't yet been inside Fantasyland, and did want to visit Mickey's Philharmagic (I just love that one) I figured, why not? So I turned left and then realized, oh yeah, I'm gonna fly to Neverland today. Normally, unless I'm there for an EMH Morning, or we just happen to be picked by the "dream squad" to skip to the head of the line as we were back during the 2 Years of Millions of Dreams... we just avoid the 60,90,120 minute wait that tends to build for this fun but entirely too short little dark ride called Peter Pan's Flight. I love it, but not with those ridiculous wait times. So I used another immediate FP, and bingo, was on the ride in 2 minutes. Again - I love it!

While it's certainly not my favorite, and I DEFINITELY prefer the original found out in Anaheim, CA vs. the shortened and scaled down version found in Florida... I did decide I would take a spin on the "happiest cruise that ever sailed" - It's a Small World. Not so much for the dolls, or the music...but for the a/c! I really was wishing, ney longing for, the 18 minute version that Disneyland has. 18 minutes of glorious a/c would have been nice. Oh well. I settled for 10. It still was nice, even if the song got stuck in my head for the next half an hour. :rotfl:

I decided I was hungry, and since I was right there, decided Village Haus was the place for me. Following my meal, I explored the north side of FL, enjoying the new wall running pretty much from Village Haus all the way over to the little entrance road up into Toontown Fair. Here are a few pics. The murals were pretty much in front of where the new stuff will be, with nice little scrolly-type signs talking about each new area of the coming "Fantasyland Forest"

The not very old Pooh's Playful Spot has been removed, but they did save the tree and move it over next to the queue for the Winnie the Pooh ride. I think it definitely works better there for the scenic value than it ever did across the esplanade in the rushed play area that they had put in on the former 20K Leagues site.

P6060322.jpg

I then enjoyed Mickey's Philharmagic, and these views of the castle as I began to get ready to move down into Main Street to stake out my spot for the parade. It started at 9, I knew I wanted to have a place by 8 at the latest, but probably 7:45 ish. It was now about 7.

P6060353.jpg

P6060359.jpg

Throughout the day I had been texting another DIS buddy that I was hoping to meet up with, this time from the VWL Groupies thread. We'd messaged back and forth in the days prior to the trip, and agreed to meet up for the parade. I stopped in at the ice cream parlor and got myself a dish and some ice water, and then proceeded to move about half way down MS, finding a prime spot in front of Uptown Jewelers, and planted my self and spread out some stuff claiming space for DLI (Allison), and her family. They had just finished dinner and were working their way over to the MK themselves. We had agreed to meet up around 8 pm. Now it was just time to sit and wait for that glorious parade to begin. :)

Allison and her daughter, and her daughter's friend showed up a little after 8. Her husband was a bit too tired from their full day over at the Kennedy Space Center and decided to stay in the room for the evening. It was a real pleasure to be able to meet and hang out with them all. Very lovely, charming people. We had, I thought, a very pleasant evening. Here we all are, Disney Loving Iowan, or DLI as we call her on the Groupies thread (in yellow), with her charming daughter (in green) and her daughter's friend who came along with them on their vacation - for her very first visit to the World.

P6060364.jpg

We chatted and shared Disney stories of past trips (she recently went out and stayed at VGC ... so that was a big part of the conversation, definitely) and just thrilled when the lights began to dim down in Town Square. She was almost as excited as I was...

OK, so here are some of my MSEP pictures. Sorry that some of these are not the greatest quality, but the parade is so fluid and lots of movement, and has always been difficult to capture thanks to all of the different lights the camera tried to focus on. But hopefully some of you will enjoy them anyway.
:)

Now just imagine yourself sitting (or standing) along Main Street, as over the loudspeakers you start to hear the trumpeting herald and then that that distinctive computerized tone... "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls - the Magic Kingdom proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination, in thousands of sparkling lights and electrosynomagnetic musical sounds...The Main Street Electrical Parade!" followed by all the lights being doused, and the strains of Baroque Hoedown coming out to you...

Here comes Tinker Bell in her balloon to greet you...

(while this part certainly is a classic portion of the parade... I was a bit underwhelmed that a) Pete didn't look and wave at our side of the street until he was way beyond us, and b) there was no "razzle dazzle" and disappearing dragon. Oh well.)

...and finally, morphing into the patriotic theme, we honor America...

then after a final fanfare, we hear once again... "The Main Street Electrical Parade." as the lights on Main Street come back on.

I was SO HAPPY to be able to be there. It was really, really cool. :thumbsup2

And it was so awesome to be able to sit there with DLI and enjoy it together. She is just charming. I had such a good time just sitting there, hanging out and enjoying the evening with her and her daughters. Hopefully in September and December when I'm back the potential DIS meets that are already being talked about with the others I know who'll be there at the same will be able to happen as well.

Finally, a few more pics to close out this report. These are from Nightastic! From what I've read, it's a modified form of the old "Pirate & Princess Party" fireworks, but since I'd never seen those, I really enjoyed them. Personally (again, my opinion here) I think that Wishes has run it's course and should be replaced permanently, not really with this show, but something bigger and better - with more bang and less schmaltz. It's a nice show, but never really grabbed me and made me go wow. This one did a bit more of that - but honestly, sorry WDW die-hards, the 50th anniversary fireworks spectacular at DL - "Remember...Dreams Come True" was and still is the best fireworks show Disney has ever put on. Hands down. You just can't beat all of the wonderful pyrotechnics wizardry, mixed together with attraction narration clips, fire projectiles, and special effects of that show.... as each land, and many, many, many classic attractions are celebrated. There really is something special about standing in the hub, watching all of the different things going on when you hear the organ chimes of the HM and the Ghost Host and suddenly 11 rockets, all around the hub, fire straight simulating the stretching room. but this one came close. Especially when Captain Hook and his boys began attacking the castle - and then - the castle started to defend itself. Now that was pretty cool. But again... just my opinion. I know that there are many, many, many die-hard Wishes fans out there. It just never really did anything for me.

But here are a few pictures I took. I wasn't in the best place to take pictures - I wanted to be able to leave quickly after they ended to get over to the bus and work my way back to OKW as quickly as possible to get to bed... so now hub location for me. But that was okay. My camera's not the greatest for fireworks shots either...so sorry about the blurriness and such.

P6060452.jpg

P6060453.jpg

P6060454.jpg

P6060457.jpg

P6060460.jpg

I then bid adieu to DLI and the girls, and quickly left the MK. I was so very excited however, when I arrived at the bus stops... and there was an OKW bus sitting there waiting ... for me! Not a moment after I stepped on board, the lights were out, and we were on our way! YESSSSS!!! Finally - a bus that I didn't have to wait for. That made my night complete. I had to text DLI and share that...she was happy for me too.

So with that - I end this crazy little weekend jaunt TR. We've been all over the world, in 3 different parks, a water park, up in a balloon and to multiple resorts. Lots of pictures - but even more rambling and opinions spouted off here, there and everywhere. To those of you who came along on this journey with me and commented, thanks. It was fun replying back to ya. For those of you who didn't... I hope you enjoyed it even a little bit. I had fun getting it all out of my head and sharing it. I'll be back in the World in September for a Daddy/Daughter Adventure. Perhaps I'll write another TR then...

Great report Christopher! It was almost as much of a whirlwind reading it as it was for you running from one park to another. Lots of great pictures, too. :thumbsup2

Stopher - great job! (both "on the trip report" and "the place that pays you money and allows you the time/opportunity to hang out a Disneyland/ World a few times a year")
As much as I love spending time with my family at WDW, it would relish the opportunity to do that much hopping in a single day. (I know, the "relish" pun is no where near as tasty as "BLT", but I've been in meetings all morning and my brain is fried.)

Thanks for sharing - the pics are awesome!

Thanks Barry. Yes, I do consider myself quite fortunate. Oh yeah - family time is awesome...but solo time can truly be awesome too, just in different ways. When else could you eat ice cream for breakfast if you wanted to (as I have done on previous solo adventures). Certainly not with your little one present! In looking back over my yearly calendars now, this marked my 34th solo adventure to the world. Let's just say it's a good thing I don't have TR's on all of those... they would fill a book by themselves I ramble on so much! But I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

the 50th anniversary fireworks spectacular at DL - "Remember...Dreams Come True" was and still is the best fireworks show Disney has ever put on.

My long term memory is failing, but I remember saying the DL Holiday show (maybe a Believe version??) around 2003 was the best fireworks Disney had put on. But the 50th DL show was pretty freakin' awesome - better than I've ever seen at WDW.

I just showed your pictures from CIF to my DH. We really enjoyed looking at them as we tried to get on the balloon a few weeks ago on the last day of our vacation, but unfortunately they weren't going up due to high winds. Guess next trip we won't wait 'til the last day to try and go! Anyhow, it's amazing and pretty neat to try and look for all the landmarks. Great TR! :thumbsup2 Thanks for posting.
