I would love to get DS13 a stop motion animation kit, or the software and a camera. Can anyone please recommend something for me?

Not even sure where to start!? We have a PC with windows vista. He would likely be making movies with lego mini figures.

Maybe too much to ask, but hopefully not too expensive and definitely easy to use please :)

Thank you in advance!

Check Amazon. I got my 12 year old a book from there. It explains how to do stopmotion, comes with a small modeling clay kit for claymation, and gives you directions for free software to download...

My son (14) has been making stop motion Lego movies for years and you do not need anything special at all. Well, you need the obvious: camera, Legos and a computer, of course.

There are You Tube videos that give step by step directions. With a PC, he can use Window's Movie Maker (I think that is the name. My son uses a Mac but has used a PC in the past for this). There are other free stop action downloads you can search for. One is called Monkey Jam, I believe. My son is sleeping now or I would ask him.

If he really gets into it, you can purchase some editing software if you want something better than what is already on your PC. My son spends the most money on sounds from Itunes. He has sounds for everything like gunshots, thunder, slaps, laughter, glass breaking, etc.

I hope the Klutz book is cool, because my son (almost 9) has already made 2 movies with his Lego and I had the book on his Wish List so I think one of his friends is getting it for DS' birthday.

Hmmm...thanks for the suggestions. I really want to get a software kit and probably some kind of webcam. This will be a Christmas gift.

Does anyone have any experience with ikitmovie? They sell the software, or you can buy one that comes with a webcam.

TIA!

Not sure about a webcam, but my daughter took a class in this, and they used a regular digital camera on a tripod. The instructor recommended a camera with a remote to eliminate any movement.

HTH!

I don't know if you can find these but it was called a intel digital movie creator now owned by disney and called disney digital movie maker. These little cameras are great for youngsters and work really well for stop motion animation. If you can find one you are lucky. Don't expect high end video camera quality but you can capture a pretty good image and honestly its super kid friendly. I'm sure being 13 he could use somethin more tech but if you want to go low budget I'd recomend this camera.

My son made lego videos when he was younger. All he used was a small video camera, a little bendy tripod (forgot the name) and Windows Moviemaker on my laptop. That's all he needed and they were terrific! :)
