How close do the animals actually get to your balconies?

I have an idiotic picture in my head right now of my fiancee and I having an early morning coffee on our deck, only to have a couple of giraffe's poke there heads over the railing and knock over our sugar jar!

I don't know about that but if you go to page 9 there's alot of info on frequently asked questions about AKL. There is also some info on how to fax room requests in case you want to ask for that room on Zebra Trail in the Arusha Rock viewing area. I also got a great map off of this disboard somewhere. Go to the home page and see if there's maps listed. It's a great map that shows the whole AKL area. I think it's from Dreams Unlimited. You can choose your room from that. We are going for the first time for X-Mas Dec.1-6. My husband is never happy about a Disney vacation. I always have to pay for all of it, so your finance is very lucky and you can tell her I said so!!

Thanks DWMouser! :) I'll definately do some digging for that map your talkin about. Sounds like it could make room planning alot easier.

hehe and I'll make sure to -remind- the fiancee how lucky she is that she's got a brainless dope like me with enough spare money to dump it onto a DW trip :P

thanks again!

Hi there

The animals are no further than 25 ft from the balcony to the their living area.

We had animals come all the way up the edge of the "invisible barrier" in fact they were close during the dark hours you could often be kept awake at night due to their snoring. It was amazing.

We shall never forget the 3 nights we spent in our savannah room. The views were akin to the best wildlife documentary you will ever see, but 300% better.

Our digital video camera and digital camera had fantastic zooms, so our home videos and photos have great close up shots of the animals in the distance too which are fantastic.

You will love it !!!

StephenKay--

You could hear the animals snoring??? LOL!!!

We had a standard view room when we were there last weekend and were trying to focus on all its positive aspects--close to pool, restaurants, etc--and not get bummed out because we couldn't see the animals from our balcony... so I guess not being kept awake by snoring critters was just another plus!

StephenKay, Do you remember your room number? Sounds like it was great!
Thanks.

Stayed at AKL for 10 nights in July 2001. At 2am was awoken by noises. Sounded like exaggerated drawn out sighs. Realized it was from the Anakole cattle who were resting under a tree outside our room. Didn't realize it was the animals snoring. Thought the cattle were bored. The rest of my family did not notice the snoring.

lol! That sounds great! I have always wanted to woken up in the middle of the night by something other then my dogs barking.

We noticed another cool thing at the AKL. It was a cool night & we slept with the sliders open to the savannah (totally safe) and just as the sun was rising, I awakened to the sound of soft distant drumming & chanting. It's so magical, you feel like you are actually waking up in Africa. Be sure to take the hotel tour, it's the only way to appreciate & understand the awesome art collection.

Anakole cattle snore?? Thank God!!!
No girls...it was NOT me....it was the Anakole cattle:bounce: :bounce:

DW mouser :

Page 9? Page 9 where? I am aware that this is certainly a dumb question, but I was just getting ready to post a question of 'what to ask for' when I fax my request for room preferences. Sounds like this Page 9 would help! :)

Thanks!:) :)
