I’ve never been so sick in my life. Totally out of the blue I developed the stomach flu at 1am Friday morning. Any tips? So far Gatorade is the only appealing thing I can handle

Expert here (I have 5 kids). Hydrate carefully, couple of tablespoons liquid every 15 minutes, too much and it won’t stay down. No food, it just irritates the stomach (we give it at least 12 hours after the last vomiting incident). No ibuprofen. Worst one was 10 days straight with 1 year old twins. Oh, and line a bucket with a garbage bag, carry it everywhere.

My daughter just got over a bout of it. Regular, Jell-O with sugar (not sugar free blech) and apple sauce were the next steps once she could keep down Gatorade. After that plain white rice or dry white toast. The old pediatrician always recommended the brat diet once the puking stops. Banana, rice, applesauce, toast. Your guts are still enflamed, so take it easy.

It's been more than a week since she got ill and she's still not eating a whole lot, but she's at least not on the bland diet anymore.

Hydration, chicken broth is like IV fluid. Fever , swelling , painful tender areas, or longer than 24 hours require a doctor .

the only thing that's ever worked for me is continuous tiny sips of ginger ale along with small servings of instant cream of wheat (seems to line my stomach and solidify things so i'm not running to the bathroom).

OH-IMPORTANT!!! if you can take periodic small bites of banana to maintain your potassium levels DO SO!!! you DO NOT want to end up (like I did) in the e/r on a potassium IV drip-it is the most painful thing i've ever felt (and that includes very hard prolonged labor).

Ugh, it's the worst! Everyone is giving you great advice, but if you have a physician who will write you a script (or to have on hand in the future), I highly recommend Ondansetron (brand name is Zofran), ideally the sublingual type that goes under your tongue and dissolves. I always have a script on hand, particularly when we're traveling because you never know if stomach flu or food poisoning will hit.

Hope you feel better soon!

Keeping drinking your Gatorade. Start drinking small amounts of other hydrating fluids as well. Broth, juice, etc.
Tylenol or ibuprofen for fever, aches and pains. Fever causes dehydration, in addition to any vomiting you might be having. Hopefully that part of the flu has passed at this point.
When you are ready to try some food, keep to simple items. A lean turkey or chicken in a simple sandwich, chicken soup, bananas, toast and non-flavored crackers are good options. Greasy and fried foods are harder to digest and can cause more nausea.
REST!!!

If you are still sick tomorrow, call your doctor if you can. They can give you an IV the dehydration and medication for the nausea and vomiting and everything else.

Noro is ripping through like Godzilla from what I've heard. Hope you feel comfortable soon.

An old home remedy my daughters' pediatrician recommended when they were going through bouts of nausea was room temperature cola or ginger ale, stirred to flatten the carbonation and taken by small spoonful once every 15 to 20 minutes. Oddly she recommended cola as first option. We did have good luck with it a couple times, but I don't believe we've ever had noro to test how good it can stand up against that.

Cola syrup was a home remedy for tummy issues around the turn of the century. Or you could go buy from the new fangled soda fountains.

Ironically I generally don't drink soda because it often makes my stomach uncomfortable, but I will resort to a cola if I'm struggling with a migraine. It's actually been more effective than meds for me in my lifelong battle with them.

When I was a child one of my mom’s friends was a nurse and used cola syrup for upset stomachs.

My sister buys the tiny cans of Coke just for migraine treatment.

I find peppermint works well for me when my stomach is upset. I brew a cup of strong peppermint tea and sip it. We used to make it with peppermint oil instead of peppermint tea bags, but it’s really difficult to find food grade peppermint oil these days. I also keep Altoids peppermints around to treat digestive issues, as well as Bonine (which is an anti emetic and works for more than just motion sickness).
