Stolen Stateroom Magnets?

how often do people's stateroom door magnets, FE gifts, etc. get stolen? Is there anyway to avoid it?

You are putting something outside your stateroom so no real way to avoid it.

I'd say that if it does happen is most likely kids playing pranks (or deciding they like the FE). They will tend to move the magnets to another door.

I always personalize them or if not, I would sharpie the back of it.

Mine have been stolen, often if we are in a midship Cat T near the eve stirs on deck 8, looks like kids stealing them.

Names and stateroom numbers help but do not stop it, I assume they think it's fun.

I have done two cruises and not had a problem, but I have heard of people who have.

I've been on cruises where magnets, FE gifts, and even Fish Extenders were stolen.

The worst was the time a family -- whose cabin was located next the elevators -- decided not to take their magnets home. So they put up a sign saying it was okay to take their magnets. Unfortunately, that led to people taking magnets from many other cabins as well.

We had this happen to us ... someone "took" our FE! The 2 magnets! Funny part they were magnets from the dollar store.. no big deal.. but they were cute. Canada magnets with a bear and a moose. We were sad to have lost our FE....

We were midship, deck 8.:worried:

We were on the Magic last week, and our stateroom host told us that he had left things on doors for cruisers that were taken.

We decorated our door from top to bottom and nothing was taken, but most of our magnets were personalized (not all--most) and we were in an aft stateroom. My daughter said that on our floor (2) midship that a stateroom's magnets were taken--she knew because the occupants had put a sign on the door saying "Who stole our magnets?"

I worked really hard on our magnets (the disboards artists are awesome!) and I would have been bummed if someone had taken them, but I would have just made more! It's too fun.

I use a lot of magnets (I mean cover the door - a lot), and we've only had 3 go "missing". Two of them were personalized with our names, room, dates of cruise right on the front (where it would mess up the magnet if someone tried to cut it out or cover it up). The other was a Mickey head magnet I had made, not personalized.

It's quite possible that magnets get stolen (yes, that's what it is, even when "just kids moving them around"), but there are no magnets that I've made that I don't still have the picture on my computer so I can re-make it as necessary.

I've read where people have put "This magnet stolen from room XXX" on the back, so, even if a child just "picks it up" the parents would certainly know that it belongs somewhere else.

On our Dec 2013 Fantasy cruise, we actually had FE gifts stolen from our room in the Concierge section of the ship. We know this because we were heading out of our room, noticed gifts in our pockets- but were in a hurry- so we thought we'd just grab them when we got back. Guess what, they were gone when we got back. Our fault for not grabbing them right away, but seriously, someone is just gonna take them? I guess so.:rolleyes1

Awwww... now you have me all excited about making more magnets!!!:goodvibes
My DH gave many of ours (yes, he really gave them) to neighbors on our last cruise. Of course, they were made from the old Home Depot Disney paint swatches. I miss those.

Three cruises now and we haven't had anything taken. The magnets are easy to make and I do personalize them.

I know this has probably been asked to death. But I just can't resist. What are these magnets you are talking about? Why are they on the cabin doors? Do we need to make them? What are they for?

Just for fun. You don't HAVE to make them.

On our Med cruise:

Of course, you don't have to go that far :goodvibes

Our Hawaii cruise we didn't have nearly as much

(Oops, I can't find the picture! I'll look for it.)

also they can help younger kids to identify their room, and feel more at home. now that I think about it I don't really know why I use/make magnets other than just for fun! it's especially fun when you can get custom designs too! (buy on etsy or find a DIS account who makes them) (:

sorry, having problems on the iphone app and I thought my post hadn't went through so tried again and they both sent. don't know how to delete this one now

We were in a FE Group the last time and we had our magnets moved to the door next to us as they had none on there door. When it came to the FE we didn't get anything but a rock. I don't know if this was to be a joke or what but it was not fun for the kids as they helped make the FE gifts that we delivered and we celebrated our Anniversary and Birthdays and the people we were to meet never showed at the meet and greet.
We would like to meet other people and make new friends as it is a week long cruise and it would be fun to maybe have group pictures taken on the ship so you have those fun memories to look back on when you go home and keep in touch with them after the cruise.

I've always wondered about people stealing magnets and even fish extender goodies. It can definitely put a damper on your cruise but it's important to not get discouraged and keep positive no matter what happens. I'm sure it doesn't happen to everyone but it can happen so you need to be prepare for it and take the necessary precautions such as writing your name/stateroom on the back. I guess kids will be kids but pretty much anything left outside your stateroom is unfortunately free game.
