Stolen door magnets

I agree with you. It feels very college dorm to me to see doors with stuff all over them.

Being on the cruise is what's fun for me. Sticking something on my door? Not fun. But I guess to each their own - as long as it doesn't extend into the hallway and impede passage. THEN it's super annoying.

And just as a note, because magnets walk away sometimes, it's always a good idea to know your cabin number (and/or take a pic and put it on your phone) and not count on that magnet. If it walks to another door, you're going to be very confused as to why you can't get into "your" room
"If it walks to another door, you're going to be very confused as to why you can't get into "your" room."

Lol...we put magnets on to let those who get "confused" know this ISN'T your door.

I actually have found more issues on the longer sailings because the teens gets bold and restless. The 10 night Southern every summer has consistently had issues with the teens acting up and doing stupid things like stealing magnets or purposely dripping ice cream from a higher deck down to the atrium.
That’s interesting. We haven’t been on a cruise longer than 7 nights. We also have never had any magnets taken but our magnets are… let’s just say they definitely look homemade.

I was actually kinda nervous about the 10 night on the Magic last month. I had read several people talking about the bad behaviors by the kids on this cruise. I didn’t take my good door magnets because I didn’t want them stolen.

And - zero issues. There were hardly any kids on this cruise. We saw no bad behavior. And didn’t read about any in the FB group. Very different from other 7 night cruises we have been on!

Why?
I suspect some who ask this question decorate their doors, windows and home for holidays or special occasions. They just aren't understanding a DCL cruise is a celebration just as much as decorating at home for celebrations.

I dont think it's imitating college dorms. I think college dorms are imitating their home by decorating... And so a cruise celebration.

It's also a good way for the little ones to feel involved in the planning and anticipation of a cruise. They help make magnets and decide on the arrangement. A great family project.

We have typically done a couple of extra magnets, it is a fun thing to do. We have never done over the top decorating, but would love to sometime - especially on a longer cruise... on the 3 nights it feels like too much a waste of time to take all that stuff up and down...

We do a pin board on our door and I will say, our Alaskan cruise this year was the first time that my kids were realizing that many were just taking the pins and not leaving any. My kids are older so they know that this is what people do, but they were still a bit bummed. The fun part of it was seeing what was left for them.

Isn't it sad that families that have (or at least pretend to have) the money to afford a very expensive alaskan cruise are stealing $20 pins...

I get that parents might not know what their teenagers are doing, but still very sad and pathetic actually... no other words can describe... especially with a pin trading board where they could easily take a pin by the rules... just replace it...

We've all seen videos of kids (and adults) going to doors on Halloween that only have a bowl and a sign to "Take only one please" and we see then dump the entire bowl in their bag. Some people are messed up these days and assume that if it is not nailed down then it must be free.

It really really is. And like I said, my kids are older (17 ad 15) but they were still a bit bummed when they came back at night to missing pins and were running out of ones to replace it with.

So true. But there was a level of entitlement I saw on this cruise that I never saw others (this was my 7th). My daughter very quickly realized the kids she did NOT want to spend her time with (of the ones she met at the teen club).

In four cruises we have lost maybe 3-4 magnets in total, but then we create, print, laminate and glue to soft magnets ourselves so they are probably not worth stealing. A couple of the nicer ones we have are very personalized (i.e. our name with a cruise date & ship) so if someone takes them it would look foolish to put up on their door. That said we just plan on some going missing and that we will reprint them for the next cruise. I wish it was otherwise.
