Stolen door magnets

As someone who has never cruised before I would certainly never take anything off somebody’s door, but I’d also understand how people wouldn’t know that they weren’t there for the taking with all the various pixie dusting, duck hiding, fish extenders, etc.

I’m sure there’s outright stealing going on, but I guess there’s also people who innocently think they are meant to be taken.

Interesting that the comparison is made to party cruises. I would suspect that on cruises that generally have more the vibe of partying people are more concerned with other things than a decoration up on someone's door. The fact that people have had things stolen from their doors on DCL means people are underestimating issues that can arise on DCL and overestimating issues on other cruises. Alcohol isn't as freeflowing on DCL so attaching it to party cruises is strange.

I would assume it's a mixture of youths (not young kids more tweens/teens) and adults both of which can be with innocent intentions like a PP mentioned where they don't know if someone is sharing in the wealth so to speak or they can have more not so innocent intentions but unfortunately if it's the latter poor behavior is poor behavior. But TBH I wouldn't put anything sentimental outside my room like that, I know it sucks but it's just a risk either way.

The only caveat I have is it would be more obvious on cruise lines that do not see door decorations to either assume the passenger was told to remove the decoration or someone did take from a person. The cruise line we sail with it is NOT common at all (in fact considered to be unsightly) to see door decoration but I did see 1 on our cruise we left a little more than a month ago however what is more common on that cruise line to be taking long long cruises so in this case the passenger's door had decoration to signify the seasons in this case spring. Our first night we met a woman who had been cruising for 6 months for example so while not common to see the door decoration you also couldn't confuse the intent of it to be one you would have permission to take stuff from their door.

My cruise magnets are wooden ships with the dates and itinerary of all our previous cruises. No one would think these magnets were there for people to help themselves to. Some people just like to steal other people’s things. IMG_5369.jpeg

Agreed, some people just like to steal things. Some people like to be in the Disney bubble and think everyone is all sweetness and light, but the truth is, you are in a confined space with thousands of strangers for an extended period of time. Just because someone is wearing Disney ears and seems to be a nice person when you talk to them at the pool, does not mean they have the same view as you about stealing things from stateroom doors.

Unfortunately, you may have to start putting those on the inside part of the door now. Those are really cute and a shame some were taken.

There was a time when we felt reasonably safe leaving purchases in the bottom of our stroller at WDW but that time is also past. Now you have to put an Apple Tag on your stroller to track it if the entire thing is stolen.

I think people put too much faith in the Disney 'bubble'. Things disappear on Castaway Cay as well. On my Fantasy cruise several people reported having things stolen from their beach chairs at Castaway.
Just like strollers disappear at the parks, or golf carts and bikes at Fort Wilderness. Unfortunately some people are just that way...

I have no high expectations for people in the Disney bubble because I have seen some crazy things. I will, however, be in trouble if i see a shark at Lookout or Castaway. "People [fish] are friends! Not food!" 🦈🦈🦈

I had not thought about that and am considering having a magnet made saying something like “ please don’t take the magnets “ or something like that. Then again there most certainly will be people will take them just because I put that up there

I was told GS refuse to watch the video footage as the loss has minimal value, aka they don't care.

I wouldn't be surprised if under the hood there is a reasoning that some guests can't help but steal (I am talking psychological disorder here), and that they better steal “small things” than steal valuables. Kind of the same in the parks where they know at the end of the day there are going to miss a lot of pins from their inventory.

As a guest I would rather have a magnet stolen as my computer/iPad/iPhone/medications that I carry around the ship without thinking too much about it.

Driving to EPCOT and saw car with newest AP Maleficent Magnet on back by her license plate
That will be gone the minute she parks & walks away from her car in parking lot!
Not me but I did have that thought for one minute .

Here in Orlando, the radio stations give listeners magnet for their car TO BE STOLEN.
Anything on your OUTSIDE of your cabin is up for grabs. Sad that is the case now.

It is called kleptomania. I used to work in law enforcement and I cannot count the number of times I arrested someone for shoplifting only to discover they had more than enough money in their wallet to pay for the things they stole and they only stole the items because they were bored, they got a rush from it, etc.
