Stolen Disney Magic

Normally I would not do so but I had no way to contact the person so eventually a CM would have to be trusted. Figured these guys have access to rooms so they have to be vetted.

You'd think so, but that's not necessarily the case. Lots of stuff gets stolen from the rooms, especially small valuables that aren't locked in the room safe. Trust me...I know. We had money stolen from the room safe one trip about 6 or 7 years ago (I thought he'd locked it, he thought I'd locked it). Security couldn't do anything, although management was very supportive and sympathetic. I think they ended up giving us a small credit on our room charge...I know they did something to help make us feel better, although it wasn't nearly the value of the cash we lost.

It's not being paranoid if people really are out to get you...

My husband and I honeymooned in Cancun and we had a safe in the wall in the far corner of the closet. We left some money and other items in the safe thinking, its' a safe, it should be ok. We left for breakfast one morning and returned an hour or so later. I went into the safe to get some money because we we going to go shopping and sightseeing, and everything in the safe was gone! Houseskeeping had made up our room while we were gone so who do you think took our money and belongings??? Hotel management took no responsibility what so ever and made it sound like it was our fault that members of his staff was thieving from guests. I was so furious.

We had to call our parents to Western Union some money to us so that we could get home. Luckily, we were on an all inclusive plan so our meals were covered, but other expenses were not. And it's a good thing our parents did send us some money; our flight cancelled in DFW due to wx and we had to stay the night at a hotel at our expense.

I learned my lesson. I never, ever leave items in a hotel safe. And now I carry a combo of cash, credit cards, and travellers checks. And my husband and I split things up. He may carry the money, but I'll carry the cc's and the traveller's checks. It was a major hassle having money wired to Mexico and I don't ever want to go through that sort of hassle again.

BTW, sorry to hear about what happened to you.

That sucks. I think that people sometimes feel like they are doing a good thing by "at least" returning the wallet. I think they feel entitled to the money. I have had that happen to me and it sucks.

OP, I'm sorry that this happened, but remember the the thief only stole your money. He has no way to take away YOUR magic and that's only if you let him.

Last summer we were at DHS and DD (for some reason) took off her princess fanny pack and hung it on the chair while we ate dinner. I didn't notice that she had done this, so about 2 hours laters I asked her where her fanny pack was, the horror in her eyes told me she forgot it somewhere.

We went back to HV, but the shifts had changed and no one was there that knew anything about the fanny pack.

We went up to the front of the park to guest services and there it was. Everything still in it, even her hard earned $50 of Disney Dollars. Our waiter brought it up there on his break.

That's horrible! I know exactly how you feel, but my situaton was even crazier! Someone stole one of our bags full of UNDERWEAR, toiletries, and swimsuits! Why on Earth they'd not throw it back out to be found beats the out of me!

At least you got some of your stuff back! This happened at Coronado Springs on Day 1 of a 17 night trip and it really spoiled things for us! We spent three days replacing our items!

You all need to keep your guard up no matter where you are! Especially on vacation!!! Evil people are everywhere and things are going to get a lot worse with fuel prices skyrocketing. People here are stealing metal to "pay for fuel". At least that's what they said when they got busted!

We never carry any cash on our person while in WDW. It all stays in the safe in the resort. Only item we do carry is ID and room key plus ticket. Thats it and it goes in my hip bag which never comes off, small unit. Wife does ditto, nothing in our pockets to slide out. I see tons of guests walking around with the same wallet they carry at home, all their papers and I assume alot of cash in a bulging wallet, for what, to slip out of a pocket, most not even buttoned. Alot of attractions are low for loading and when you sit, up goes your knees and things can slide out very easily.

I guess all caution goes to the wind for alot of guests being in a magical place but its also a good haven for thieves. We just play it safe, everything of value stays in the safe and we do not bring alot of cash, credit cards are fine and the charging privilege on a room key at your resort makes this so easy to travel. Be prepared and always be alert, no matter where.

To the OP sorry this happened to you....there are still many good people out there and I hope this story makes everyone smile...

On our last trip to MK I was wearing new crocs for only the 2nd time. After wearing them to Sea World, I got some bad blisters on top of my feet....so this time I brought a "chafing gel" along in my bag to help in case the crocs started rubbing me the wrong way again....
Anyway this certain product, while not *necessarily* for - ahem- feminine use is made by a feminine product company (and is prominently labeled as such!)

Soooooo it turns out I had my bag open while riding on the Indy Speedway. As I was getting out, almost every last thing spilled out of my bag into the car floorboard- unbeknownst to me.

The nice lady behind me yelled out for me to come back that I had dropped something, as she said "You dropped your sunglasses....and your change purse...and here, your park map.....and your sunscreen....and (holding up the tube of gel) your....uh.....uh.....your stuff" I'm sure she thought it was for "feminine use"....

I was embarrassed at the time, but now I think it is just hilarious!!!

Unfortunately there are dishonest people everywhere, don't let them ruin your magic that is their power, yours is to hold your head up and go on enjoying the magic at your laughing place. Where else can grown adults wear mouse ears and sing silly songs walking down the middle of a street and not have people look twice.

Like others have said, it's unfortunate that there are these types of people at Disney, and in society. What has happened to people's morals?

I've been a victime twice at Disney. The first was maybe 8 years ago, I left a bag with some soveniers in it in the bathroom. Came back less than 2 minutes later when I walked out and realized I didn't have it, and it was already gone.

The other time just happened a couple of weeks ago. I had a ring I wore from law school. It was a little bit loose, and while visiting AK, it dissapeared (I'm sure it fell off on a ride, or walking around, or something). Unfortunately, no one turned the ring in, and I'm sure someone took it as their own. I don't even care so much about the cost of the ring, even though it was around $1,000 (had a diamond and a ruby in it) as much as the sentimental value of it. I went through a grueling 3 years of law school in which my mom passed away and my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, but I still finished! It meant something to me every time I looked at that ring.

I would hope that everyone on these boards who sees messages like this does the right thing if they find an item belonging to someone else. You never know what the item you return might mean to the owner.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and your various stories. I knew that I was not the first or last person that this has ever happened to in Disney. I just thought that by sharing my story with others it would make people more aware of their surroundings. I know what happened was unfortunate and I know that the world is not filled with people who do the right thing, I just wish at that moment one of the "good" people would have been there for us. Lesson learned for future trips! I guess we figured our money was safer with us rather than in the hotel (you hear lots of stories about things going missing in hotel rooms). I guess you can never let your guard down anywhere.

On a side note, we had a bracelet and camera stolen from our room, on site CBR. No one in there except housekeeping, so I can only guess who is wearing my Tiffany's silver charm bracelet, or who pawned it.

I know exactly how you feel. When I went in March of '07 with my Band, three things happened.
1)I came out of splash mountain and went to sit down and saw an envelope. It wasn't sealed and I looked inside to make sure it wasn't anytihng dangerous. It was a TON of money-I didn't counmt it-just looked in and took it straight up to the counter at the splash mountain gift shop. the cm looked in the envelope and you should have seen the expression on her face-she was so shocked. I told her that I found it on the bench outside. Just as I was getting ready to leave a teenage girl came running in crying. She kept asking if anyone had found an enveloope with money in it. I told I had found it. She asked how much money was in it. I said I didn't know but it looked like a lot. She preceded to tell me that her mom had given her the money to pay for everything on her trip, hotel, food, souveneirs. She gave me a huge hug. I felt so good that someone hadn't picked it up and pocketed it. As I was walking out, I heard the girl say that it 2,000 in it !!!!! I left with a smile on my face.
2)My band stayed at the pop music hotel. The day we left, as I was packing, I set my CD player and CD collection on the floor next to me. I got up to get my stuff from the bathroom and when I came back, I kept packing. Needless to say, I forgot all about it until I got on the bus and we were getting on the highway. I called and asked if they could check, and they did, but they said they couldn't find anything. I was so P****d off because the CD player was $100 and then my cd collection was 500 cd's. I can almost guarantee that one of the housekeeping took it.
3)I was on the rockin roller coaster and I forgot to put my change purse in my bag and kept it in my pocket. It only had $10 in change in it. As we went on the first loop, it fell out of my pocket. I heard it hit the floor and prayed that it would stay there until i got off the ride. Well-it wasn't

The Disney Magic, unfortunately, cannot magically change the people that attends the parks. People comes to the parks bringing their own moral compasses, or lack thereof. So please remember that when you are at these parks, that you do not know the people who attends them.

Personally, I'm not the most trusting person in the world. I always look over my shoulder and think the worst in people. But I'm also in ministry, so I know that anyone has the potential to do anything with the appropriate temptation. Including me- which is why I rely on more than my own sense of propriety and conscience when living my life.

So what I do is make sure that my belongings are secure- and I NEVER place my wallet in my back pocket. I always put that bulging beast in my front pocket, or I wear shorts with large, buttoned pockets in the sides. Why? Because if my wallet comes out, I do not want that to be a moment of temptation for another citizen.

That is terrible to hear! It's a sad day in the happiest place on Earth when someone steals from another. It's awful!
