Stockpiling Tickets

Does anyone stockpile tickets at all? Before this latest price increase I picked up non expiring hoppers with waterparks for our family. I saved just about $300 over the new prices. We still have AP's for the next trip but next year plan to use the hoppers. We just sold a house and I am seriously considering buying another set of non expiring hoppers for the family, maybe a couple of extra adult ones as well and putting them away for safe keeping. Is this totally crazy? We are DVC and will certainly be going back a few more times

No, it's not crazy. I have been doing this for years.

It started about 10 years ago when my dad got 4 day hopper tickets for everyone in our group and some of us upgraded our tickets to 10 day non-expiring tickets.

Ever since then I have always gotten 10 day non-expiring tickets. I still have days on my current ticket but I got another 10 day ticket from UT.

Now that we are buying into DVC we will likely plan our trips about 10-11 months apart so we can take advantage of the discount AP for members. But I will always keep a supply of days on a non-expiring ticket.

I miss the days when I was living in Florida and could get an AP for cheap.

Yup. I'm still using ap vouchers purchased from TDS back in 2000. This past feb I converted a child's ap voucher into an adult dvc ap - got the ap, and got about $50 back in addition.

edited to add, if I'm recalling this right, there was actually more than a $50 difference - enough so in addition to the cash back I was able to buy a TIW card.

when i bought 10 day no-expire hoppers in 2005, it was $350 per ticket. now it's up to $535...wish i had bought extras at $350...

When I bought into DVC, I bought several AP vouchers in 2003 that I still have not exchanged and whenever there was some extra cash, I bought tickets. I have batches we still have water park admissions on from 2000, 2001, 2003, & 2007...I was shocked to see the prices a couple weeks ago as I just looked to add more to our collection. I really dont like the surcharge for non-expiring...I know it is a revenue generator, but I remember the days when no tickets expired...and it just was. I decided not to buy more tickets at this time even though I am sure they will just continue to go up.

Oh well, I figure we have about 70 days worth of admissions banked up...not counting AP vouchers. I only wish I had bought more as I see the prices continue to rise.

With DVC, I am sure we will use them in time.

I will say at the end of the trip, we stop in at guest services to check days remaining so we know for next time. The guest services folks act like we are trying to scam the system and basically we have to stop short of a blood sample for them to give us info on the number of days. They claim it is because people "resell" them. I explain I will be coming for another 30 years and planned ahead so please tell me what is left on the ticket. I guess they dont see the millenium 2000 tickets that often...lol

I do now. But like a PP said, I wish I had started earlier. Too young and unaware of the yearly price increases, so I bought what I could.
If you can afford it, I say go for it.

I also stockpile hoppers and AP vouchers. Also, once there was a BIG problem with a reservation and I was offered either one day of our points returned or 1 day Ultimate Park Hoppers for each person in our group (I think there were 13 of us). I took the hoppers and they have come in very handy. They are not attached to any certain person so I have used them for guests who visit for only a day or 2 because tickets for 1 day are ridiculously expensive. I also have non-expiry hoppers to use for a few days if it is more cost effective than renewing our APs.
I guess an argument can be made that tying up your money for years isn't good because of inflation but I like knowing that I always have tickets if a last minute trip opportunity comes up.

Yeah I have 2 passes in my stock pile. I actually want to get up to at least 5 on hand. But thats a a lot more cash.

We don't but DSis has some non-expiration 10 day hoppers and 1 park a day tickets.

My favorite hedge against inflation!!! I keep a stash of never used tickets too.

Those extra partially used NE tickets also come in super handy for a day trip at DL. Last time I used some of the old, old tickets we had left over (before we started buying AP's every year) and our one day admission to DL/CA was only $30. pp vs. the current gate price of over $70. I still think being able to cross over tickets like that is one of the best kept secrets out there.

I am struggling with this question right now...to stockpile or not to stockpile? I was going to buy 10 day + WP + No Expire tix for our trip next summer (June 2012). That way we'd get to use the tickets over our next three trips. I can still get the old price at UT but prices go up today. If I wait till next June I would be spending almost $400 more for the same tickets. But...I have two problems with buying them now. 1) I don't have the money (it's all going to this summer's vacation) so I would have to put them on a credit card. I could pay them off by December, but the interest would eat up $75 of my cost saving. 2) My kids are getting older and I'm not sure how many more times my DS14 (not really a theme park fan) will be in to going to WDW. We do have family in SoCal so we'd probably make a DLR trip at some point in the next few years and I can use WDW tickets at DLR. So that's two trips at least. Will I ever be taking a third family trip with these tickets? I don't know. My heart says to whip out the credit card and buy them. My head says just wait, do Y.E.S. tickets for my June 2012 trip and deal with DLR when it comes up. DLR has more deals on tickets than WDW does. What to do, what to do.....

I see on UT that prices go up today...does that mean prices shown are the new ones, or they actually go up after today. If they go up AFTER today, I feel like I should jump on them, but if the prices shown are the new ones, I'm in no hurry. Possible trip this October.

I sold some stuff on Ebay earlier in the year, and bought my family of 4 a set of 10 day non-expiring hoppers with water parks, and a set of 10 day non-expiring non-hoppers with water parks. We are DVC and AP holders, but I will save them for a time when we aren't AP holders. We also have a set of 10 day non expiring hoppers with water parks from 2005 that we are still using for the water park days.

We have APs, but just picked up 10 day NE PH WPM last week for 2012 and 2016 vacations! (We'll pick up another AP from 2014-2015 vacations!) The savings seemed way better than what I would make at the bank!
