stockpile diapers?

Also, I found out that the only diapers I really liked and that worked well for my son were Pampers. I had bought several packages of Luvs (terrible diapers) and my son woke up soaked from every nap.

FWIW, my son soaked through Pampers from day one (well, day five, actually) and we've been using Luvs since (six months old now) and they have worked great for us. After coupons, we get them for $25 a case at BJ's. I am amazed every morning by how much those diapers hold successfully! (and btw, we used only Pampers for dd)

Just another example of what works for one child, doesn't necessarily work for another child.

To OP, I would wait to stock up until you find what works and THEN stock up. Just get a package of 1's and 2's. Like others have said, there will be deals out there, but if you load up on the brand that doesn't work, or you have a big baby like some of us did it will be such a hassle to exchange.

I'm going to start stockpiling very soon. I have some coupons for Pampers (hate hate hate Huggies) and when I see a good sale, I'm going to get some NB's.

Also wanted to mention that our hospital sent us home with seven packages of newborn dipes. DS was born at 7lb 13 oz, and outgrew the NB's in a week so we ended up giving them away. Rather than stock up on NB's, I would get 1's. You could always ask at the hospital (if you're delivering in one) ahead of time.

I did stockpile and ended up wasting a lot of money doing it. I ended up giving away around $150 worth of diapers that leaked for my kid, gave him a rash, were too small...

The thing with diaper deals is that they are ALWAYS around. Good coupons can be had at every turn. Once you're pretty sure of what will work for you, then you can start collecting and accumulating. Just keep in mind that there is a lot of overlap in size ranges/pound ranges, so buying up a size might be your best bet.

Yup. 3 dozen high quality cloth prefolds. Fuzzibunz. Diaperwraps. Wool Covers. About $300.00 got me all the way through 3 kids :-).

We stockpiled and didn't buy diapers until my boys were 9 months old and only then because we had coupons about to expire and a good sale at the store. (We started that becuase that was going to be such a HUGE expense after they were born and we were worried about how we were going to afford them.) They were stacked under both baby beds and under the spare room bed. I stacked them in sizes together. I went with Huggies Supreme because that was what I had the most coupons for starting out.

Target used to have a liberal return policy and I did return a basket full one time, but otherwise, we estimated pretty good.

I got lucky with sensitivities to diapers and liberal return policies. MY ADVICE NOW - everytime you go to the store, ADD $20 to a gift card, with the specific purpose of future diaper purchases. (This was actually my husband's advice to two new soon to be parents. They used it and have shared how well that really worked.)

I did! Pampers had a thing going on with their points that you could get a free Jeep ride on-the little one with a motor. I bought enough diapers (in different sizes) so that I could get two of them. I had a closet full about 4 feet up from the floor. And thanks to DS11 not potty training until very very late, we used them all..and then more.

This was after I established that Pampers were OK for both kids.

lol me too but it was my husband, he was the diaper nut we had a closet full before baby was born...

everytime some one asked about what we need for the baby he said diapers.

he would go to store and come home with man stuff, candy and diapers.:lmao:

yes -- and if it turns out to be a kind your child cant wear, you can exchange unopened pkgs or trade kinds with a friend.

any time you can get a good eal -- and use coupons -- STOCKPILE.

I stockpiled diapers while I was pregnant and it ended up biting me in the tail. DD ended up being allergic to just about every kind and I ended up having to cloth diaper for a while. If you don't have a super sensitive kid, then it's great.

We've got unopened BOXES of diapers, and we didn't even stockpile before our daughter was born -- we just received many generous gifts of diapers. We did use many of them, but she outgrew sizes pretty quickly in the first few months, and we just never got to them. We're planning to donate them to a women's shelter as soon as we have some time to drive them over.

DS15 was premature. The hospital used Pampers and after he came home I HATED the sight of Pampers because it reminded me of the hospital. I got several packs of 3 - 4 different brands for shower presents, and I used the Pampers last. They were size 1 and they barely fit him by the time we ran out of them. If you do stockpile, buy bigger sizes in addition to newborn & size 1.
