We do "stock" up more in the winter than we do any other time of the year- well with the exception of mud season.
Basically it just means that there is never a time when I run out of something that I NEED to have then, that being mainly non-perishables, toilet paper, paper towels etc.
There are many times when you will NOT want to load up the kids and head to the store for something like toilet paper trust me. Getting little ones ready to head out in a snow storm is not a 2 minute ordeal. Then- dont forget they then have to pee, or need a diaper change, and starts it all over again.
The road in burlington your familiar with is Church St. Its cobblestone etc. beautiful area, from about May to August, and then the partys I mean, college starts again. Trust me on this one, the majority of my staff goes to school at either UVM or Champlain.
A couple points to ponder- your vehicles, are they ready for winter driving- VERMONT winters that is. You know snow tires, we use those up here
I've lived in VT 24 of my 29 years, and have no desire to move anywhere else.
A couple things to think of- the dollar may seem to go farther here, but the wages are generally lower. THe cost of fuel oil, and gas is no where near LOW. People without pre-buys or budget plans for their oil will be paying close to 2.50-3.00 a gallon and gas has been at 2.50 for weeks. Also VT has some of the highest property taxes I've heard of, and electricity is very high as well.
Good luck
