How do each of you display your stockings? My Dad and I don't have a mantle. I'm still trying to find two holders that could rest on top of a table or bookcase that wouldn't be pulled down by the weight of items inside the stockings. Any suggestions appreciated.

Anyone want to share how you got your stocking? Is your name on it or a favorite character? Pictures welcome, of course.

My Dad and I currently do have stocking with our names on them. I got him his and a friend long ago got me mine. Another kind friend sewed our names on them. Next year, God-willing, it would mean a lot to me for each of us to personally be able to choose a stocking for each other.

Thanks, everyone. Have a good night sleep.

Ours are on the mantel on holders, but once filled, we set them on the floor at the base of the fireplace. No regular holder is going to support the weight of them after being stuffed with gifts. That's going to be the same regardless of if you set your holder on a mantle, tabletop, or bookcase. Just let them hang empty for display, and unhook them Xmas night once they are filled.

Our stocking holders are a very simply designed hook from Etsy.

There are 2 versions, one is better suited if a fireplace mantel is angled, and the other would be perfect for a bookcase, Ie if the mantel would be more of a slab. The hooks are very stable with heavily-filled stockings.

We have used this ingenious hook for years, but finally had stockings created from this seller. I would take a pic, but our stockings are not up yet.

This is what we do too ::yes::
I actually have a duplicate stocking for my DD22, that she’s never known about, that I prefill so on Christmas Eve I take hers down and put the filled one out. It’s a huge time saver and then I know before Christmas Eve that I have enough for the stocking. Her stocking is currently filled and sitting tucked away in a designated box I use every year :thumbsup2

There are usually 7 of us. We do not have a mantel. DH built a simple fireplace with mantel that gets moved in every year.
This year there are just 3 of us, so we are not moving it in. We have stockings on a small cabinet. We have stocking holders we have had since the kids were very young. They are made to not slide. But we put part of a rubber jar opener under them to be sure

Our stockings are currently hanging on the fireplace mantel. When Santa fills them on Christmas Eve he leaves them under the tree. Once we empty them we hang them back up until I pack away the Christmas decorations.

Since the girls are adults and rarely both make it home at the same time (sometimes they go to their moms, our house, boyfriends or stay home as the oldest lives in a different state and started a new job last month). I mail their childhood stocking filled to them. So I bought new ones that match my decor and those are hanging.

We have two stockings that have our initial of our first name on them both bought from Bed Bath and Beyond years ago. We have a stocking for our cat as well.

We do have a mantle but use stocking hooks from Walmart bought a few years ago

Before we had gotten the stocking for our cat we used bell stocking holders that look like the above but are just bells.

We actually just use stuff already on the mantle on top of the hook for balance/weight

That said we don't fill our stockings, they are just for looks.

DH and I bought stockings at a temporary seasonal mall kiosk about 12 years ago. The employees wrote names on the top white part with glue then dipped them in glitter.

They’re for decoration only; not filled. They hang from hooks on heavy metal decorative bases that sit on the fireplace mantle. I have two sets of bases; one has reindeer, the other has snowflakes, and I’ll choose which ones to use this coming week when I decorate.

We do similar…empty on the mantle hanging from character holders (Santa, reindeer, gingerbread men & snowmen). But after I fill them on Christmas Eve, I lay them under the tree, with the presents. We hang them back in the mantle after they’re empty again.

Have any of you used Command hooks on a wall?
Not on a wall, but we put them flat on our mantle with the hooks facing the edge and they hang just fine. We tried regular stocking hooks and they couldn’t support the weight of a filled stocking. The Command hooks do.

Before we had a mantle, we used the stair railing for stockings and before that, when we lived in a one story house, we hung them from the door knobs on various doors around the living room.

Amazon and other stores have started selling these. I had never seen them before, but I can see where they would be good whether you have a fireplace or not. Don’t want the chocolate to melt when you light the fire!

you can get heavy counterweight stocking holders that will hold it when full. We have a mantle but have used the heavy weight stocking holders for years

Or you could get a stocking stand line this style to use

Over the years, I have used them for a few things. At my former job, I used them on the back of the office door. They held heavy winter coats & bags, no issue. At home, we’ve used 1 to hold the large wreath over our fireplace for 7 years now. It’s on tile, not a painted wall. It failed once, when my husband didn’t follow the directions to clean the wall before applying. We also use it on a painted door, to hold a large hanging quilt decoration.

even when we had a traditional mantle we had to take the stockings down or risk them falling once Santa stuffed them. in recent years I've taken to hanging the 4 in our home from the round door handles on the front of my china hutch. when they are filled they are set on an antique bench near by. oh-and dh and I have identical stockings with a father christmas embroidered on them while our kids have identical ones with the word 'Mr.' embroidered on (saw them at cracker barrel one year and they reminded me of 'doctor, doctor, doctor, mr' from the big bang theory).
