Hey guys so as most people know, SGE has been one of the worst rides Disney has ever had on it's premises and I will be so incredibly happy when it is gone so, does anyone know when it will finally be leaving MK? I know it only has seasonal use right now (Thank God) and thats a death sentence for most rides so I am praying that anyone knows when they will be removing the ride. Anyone??

Did you ever experience it when it was Alien Encounter? That was the most horrible attraction I have ever experienced. Literally terrifying, kids screaming and crying and parents could not do a thing to console them because everyone was totally strapped in. Although there were like 400 warning signs before loading that the experience might be terrifying for kids (and adults!) many parents just assumed it would be a "Disney" friendly ride and then lived to regret the assumption.

Yes, as far as I know it's slated to eventually be removed. Check out the Rumors & News forum, there is a thread on this subject there.

Loved Alien Encounter! Loved being scared to death but agree it probably belonged more at Universal than the Magic Kingdom. I was in my twenties when I first went in there and I was terrified. It was awesome! :yay:

I was lucky enough to do Alien Encounter a few times in the short time that it was there, I've also been lucky enough to never endure Stitches Great Escape.

Alien Encounter absolutely didn't fit in with the rest of MK but that's not to say it wasn't incredible! Just think- originally the concept was for them to work with FOX and it tie in with the Alien movie franchise, can you imagine Alien Encounter but amped up with a xenomorph!!

I agree it's terrible.... BUT

DS8 remembers going on it in 2013, and he has fond memories of it, and is hoping to go again. Anyone know if seasonal openings are a real thing, or is just closed forever? In particular, Aug 5-19.

I loved Alien Encounter... It was thoroughly immersive! That said, it definitely wasn't for young children. I've never experienced SGE. Even though I've heard that a lot of folks don't care for it, I don't understand why Disney has it just sitting there closed most of the time. If it were being refurbished or torn down, it would be understandable, but to just sit there empty when you have a park filled with people seems a waste. Too bad they couldn't change it back to AE, move it to Disney Springs, and charge people a one time fee for the experience. They'd still need to be warned about it being too intense for young kids, or even have an age restriction, but it would be a better fit overall at DS vs. MK.

One of the best attractions Disney ever did. Quite realistic.

There's no official word on when Stitch will close for good and/or be replaced

I got to experience Alien Encounter only once, when I was in my early twenties and I loved it. It was so scary and realistic. I really hate Stitch's Great Escape and I think I only went on it twice. The first one was such a let down after remembering how amazing Alien Encounter was. We tried riding it again several years later hoping maybe it was better than I remembered, plus it was indoors, short wait and air conditioned. But it was still bad, so we just skip it now.

I really wish my husband was able to experience Alien Encounter. He hadn't started visiting WDW when the ride was there. I understand that it's scary for young children, however, I think if people listen to the warning and use caution when taking their children. When I rode it, the line was an hour and a half long, vs. Stitch which is practically a walk on. It's better to have a ride where some of the people shouldn't ride because of fear levels, then a ride that most of the guests choose not to ride because it doesn't meet expectations.

Awful strong opinion, but that's the good thing...it's just opinion. I loved Stitch. Fun attraction. Not the best ever, but far from the worst.

Loved Alien Encounter. My brothers and my dad and I would laugh hysterically the whole time. There would be some scattered screaming when the lights went out and the breathing started but all heck would break loose with the "tongue" in your hair. Was great stuff.

I will never forget riding it years ago. There was a mom with two little boys in line with us. They kept saying, " it's not scary is it?" She kept telling no. We assured her it WAS. Anyway the ride starts and these kids flip out. One kid somehow gets out of the restraints and is running around screaming. The ride stops and CM comes in to rescue the kid and release the mom and brother. I can't remember if we had to all exit or not but I do remember wanting to say I TOLD YOU SO!

I loved Alien Encounter! I wish my boyfriend could have experienced it!

Just checked the Disney Website, it's closed this week, BUT OPEN NEXT WEEK.

Boom-shaka-laka. Later, haters.

Ugh I went on this when I was 10....worst experience ever. I was the child screaming and crying.

So excited! I don't love this ride but my DS8 loves, loves, loves Stitch and was disappointed that it might be closed. So at least one kid will be happy about this next week :)
