2004 - Stitch Encounter - Rumor - (8/4/03) As the work on Philharmagic is quickly approaching completion, it seems that work on the proposed Stitch Encounter attraction is starting to gear up. According to a few sources, work could start by the end of the year and reopen in time for Spring Break if the park is willing to close down Alien Encounter before the busy holiday season. Planning is also in full swing for a redo of Mickey’s Star Traders to allow for the second theater to dump into the gift shop in the same way that the other theater exits into the Merchant of Venus shop next door.

This seems to pop up every now and then, but I would hate to lose such a fun ride as AE!

If it is true I hope it's at least put off until after Feb 2004... I have been talking about AE to hubby2b since my last trip in '96 and this was one he was SO looking forward to. :( :(

NO NOT STAR TRADERS!! i'm such a geek, but i don't want to see that go! everyone's upset about AE and here I am complaining about a gift shop! lol

Well this definately sucks. Just wait until we get a load of not one but TWO Stitch shops.

Oh well thank you AE for being the best thing to happen to the MK since Splash Mountain. You will be missed.

I heard somewhere that this may close in October? This is just a rumor and I didn't hear it from a reliable source. So does anyone that is close to Disney no for sure when AE might go down?

My friend who is a castmember says that it is supposed to close this fall because she said whenwe come down at Christmas it is supposed to be closed. We are going to do it tons of times this Aug. My family will definitely miss this attraction--theyre are a couple of attractions that could disappear in tomorrowland before this one. Sometimes I wonder what makes the Higher ups make their decisions. I worked for Disney for 8 years and they are constantly amazing me with decisions-good and BAD!!!!
ENJOY AE while you can because it will just be memories!!!!

Oh Man!!!!:( That really stinks. I love AE. I was hoping the rumors weren't true. I will be there the last week of October and will be doing MNNSHP and BMTRR will be closed now this is too  Do you have anyu idea what dates this may close? I know thats hard to asnwer but I thought I would give it a try.;)

ALL RIGHT!!! Can't wait for a Stitch attraction... Maybe I am in the minority, but AE has always scared the bejeebers out of me!!!!

I hope that they come up with something innovative that all ages will love!

I can't wait for this change either! Stitch is one of my favorite Disney characters!

I know it is exciting news, but we shouldn't count our chickens before they hatch.

You just never know.

My only problem with the family park reasoing for getting ride of AE for Stitch is:

What about familys who have teenagers? If your family is a 16 y/o, a 15 y/o and two 46 y/o parents...isnt't that a family?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I've been wondering the same things myself. I have a 10 year old and he's gradually becoming more and more interested in more thrilling attractions. I worry that he'll tell me that MK is boring someday. :(

Yep. If I wasnt a Disney fanatic the MK would be a total bore. I already like Epcot and MGM better.

I don't fine MK boring, but AE was a very nice ride for me to go on. I like Fantasyland and all, but AE was a thrill ride, and it was nice to have a mix of both fun and magical with some thrilling and heartpounding.

My only problem with AE is that to me, it doesn't have return appeal. I saw it once and it was fun, but the second/third time, it wasn't as fun because it wasn't surprising. I dunno, to me, the best rides are the ones you want to ride over and over again for the experience - this just isn't one of those rides for me. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who do like it that way though. All I can say is, I'd go back over and over again to something that has character appeal over a spooky light show anytime.

Closing down AE? That would be a rather "stupid" desicion on disney's part. AE is one of the MK's most popular attractions and to replace it with...(cough, flavor of the week)...I mean..stitch, would be an insult.
