The stink bug invasion has hit full force in Jersey today!! Anyone else?

My sister just got rid of no less than fifty in her tiny little living room alone:scared1: She said she came home and the house had just exploded with them!

Yes they are terrible! All over the back door, 1/2 of the screens on the windows. I can't even get out the door with a few getting in the house. It's so gross! Anyone know how to get rid of them?

I was just about to start a thread on this! I have 56 on my back door right now! Yes, I actually sat & counted them. lol I have never seen anything like this...they are so gross!

Yep all over hunterdon county too!

WTOP (Washington DC) said to expect them "in Biblical proportions" this year.

Lovely.

Oh gross! I haven't seen them today. We never really had an issue with them until last fall. Man the "Biblical proportions" thing just makes me want to put on a hazmat suit. Where in NJ are you guys anyway?

We got them by the billions (no, I never counted but believe me....it was close) in the past few years with last fall being THE WORST. I did some research and found out they are called box-elder bugs and come from the box-elder tree.

Unfortunately we had 3 of those trees on the side of our house. My DH ended up cutting them down and burning them about a month ago. We then had an exterminator friend of ours spray around our house & shed.

Until today (when the hot weather came back) we didn't have but a handful around the property. Today I could probably see maybe 20. I have read online that a good way to get rid of them is to get rid of the source (the trees) Since then, we have seen a MAJOR difference.

Stink Bugs and Box Elder Bugs are 2 different things. Stink Bugs are an invasive species that came into the country (via Pennsylvania) in the late 1990 from Asia. There is no treatment recommended to get rid of them at this point. They have no known enemies in the U.S. and their population is expected to explode. In Frederick County, Maryland, so far this year, they have destroyed about 20% of the apple population. Google Stink Bug and the state you live in for more information.

They have hit PA as well. My BF's sister has been complaining about them being all over the place at her house and is trying to figure out how to get rid of them!

We have them too. I have had a couple so far in my house, my dog goes after them. I did notice a praying mantis on my deck earlier. DH put it outside the screen, so hopefully he/she will go eating stink bugs!!

I hate, hate these bugs. As a matter of fact, I hate all bugs :scared1:!

There were so many on my front door today, I dared not go out to the mailbox.

I have 5 of the little &%*&%*$@% sitting up on one of my windows that I cannot get to.

Everywhere here today in Warren County. I dislike all bugs, but these just really creep me out.

Oh, didn't realize they were two different kinds. Before we found out what the bugs we have were, we always called them stink bugs. Thanks for letting me know.

One in my car today at work - SJ. Didn't see any around the house... South South Jersey...lol
