Stingrays on CC?

I thought I read they let the nets down prior to Wilma and released the stingrays so they could go somewhere safe. Anyone know if they came back? I sure hope so!

not sure if they intentionally "let" them go, or if Wilma took down the nets and they actually escaped ... not sure if they've been replaced yet though

Naturally, this may be a rumor, but when a hurricane is projected to be coming they supposedly take the nets down to let the stingrays go out into the ocean to safety. I heard they already did this one other time this year and they came back after everything settled down. But of course they would return to the Disney island, even stingrays want the Disney life and maybe even a konk cooler!

Seriously, we had relatives just return from the 10/15 Magic who went on this relatively new excursion and they were told they have been working with the stingrays for almost one year, hopefully they will come back!

On the "Live from the 10/22 Magic Cruise" thread, the DISer mentioned that the Captain made the announcement that for the safety of the animals, they released the sting rays, so that they could find their own natural shelter during the storm.

We were on the 10/23 Wonder and at CC on Wednesday. Two or three of the stingrays were spotted in the area so some have returned. We spoke with a CM from the island who said once the netting is fixed, they will "call" the stingrays back and hope they come. Right then they could not feed or acknowledge the presence of the rays for fear other sea life, like sharks, would wander in as well. That was the big concern for the family beach area too. Many stayed on the beach and put their feet in or sat in chairs at the edge but no one was allowed to "swim".
The CM also mentioned the hope was to have the rays back and trained again ready for excursions "in a month or so". Hope for all future cruisers this is the case. We were booked for this and missed out.

My DH is SO excited to do this excursion! We have 6 mos though - Im sure it'll be in good shape by then!
