We have 3 kids and were supposed to get the full $2100.

I checked today and we only got $1500.

Any ideas on what happened?

don't know, but we've got two kids (well, we have three now, but one's new LOL) and we only rec'd $1200 and i was expecting $1800...

i tried to find out and only learned that for some reason dh and i did not qualify for the max of $600 each... but instead only $300 each... not sure why... we supposedly earned enough and certainly paid enough taxes... dh is supposed to call our accountant!

atleast you guys have received something....we are still waiting. =(

Did you earn too much to qualify for the whole amount?

Someone mentioned on another thread that they didn't receive the total amount because their tax liability before the child tax credit wasn't as much? Not sure really how it all works out...I did the calculator online using our 2007 tax paperwork and it said we're getting less than what I calculated too, but as long as it's close enough to pay off our Disney Vacation I'm good ;) We don't have a lot of tax liability since we have 5 kids....but they said it's supposed to be calculated prior to the child tax credit, so again, not really sure how it all works out. Let us know when you hear from your accountant.

Our accountant warned us to only expect $300 per adult because Bush changed something to the program at the last second stating that adults would either recieve $300 per adult or $600. She said look for $300 and if you get $600 it will be a nice surprise. She said she can not find any details on how they are deciding who gets what. It seems to be a mystery but I figure there are going to be lots of upset folks who alread spent the $600 per adult thinking that is what they would get.

The same thing happened to us, only got $1500, was expecting $2100. It said it had to do with our tax liability. I really was hoping for that extra $600.

I had the same thing happen to me. I went in today to the tracker to see when I would get it and it said i was only getting 900, when i expected 1200. I'm a single mother with 2 kids. After researching like a mad woman this morning, i realized that the 300-600 (per adult) goes by your tax liability. Since I'm a single mom, i usually get back everything I pay in. If your tax liability (what you owe the IRS), which is line 35 on your 1040 A, or line 57 on 1040, is less than 600, then you would get the minimum refund of 300 per adult. I didn't realize this until today.

I think we're still getting back 2100. though....we don't have much of a tax liability either with 5 kids, but even with 300.00 for each of us (I made just enough to qualify last year) times 7 people in our family it still comes out to 2100....although 2700 would have been nice too :)

:confused3 OMG ... I hadn't heard that. I calculated our amount in my head, knew our check was coming in July (I had our refund DD into 2 separate accounts) and that was that. I should probably go back and run the calculator. I thought we'd be getting $1800. It sounds like we might not be.

This sounds exactly the same as me! I'm a single mom of 2 and was expecting $1200 but got $900. Thank you for explaining!

Same here. I only work part time now and my husband is a teacher/coach. We got $719 for us and $300 each child (we have 4) for a total of $1919. When they first announced it I was expecting $2400. It was b/c I am not working right now and we have a lower tax liability like pp stated. Bummed but it is still almost $2000! :)

I was on the IRS website, because I was expecting more than I will end up getting. We have a 20 year old that we claim, his 17yo girlfriend, along with their 22 month old daughter. We claim all three of them, the 17 year old is still in high school, while our son, 20yo, stays home with and takes care of the toddler. Sooo, we claim all three of them on our taxes, we are their
sole providers. Come to find out, we will not get the $300 for the 20 yo or the
17yo. She turned 18 is February-so that dropped her. Apparently the dependant has to be UNDER 17 years of age to qualify. Still don't know if we will get the $300 for the toddler or not as she is our grandchild and not our child. I quess we will find out next week.

Same exact thing, I did the calculator and it told me we would get 2100, only got 1500.00. Although I happy to get something, I would have really liked that extra $600

so the calculator on irs.gov is giving wrong amounts?

I only got $300 despite working fulltime and having a 20 y.o. dependent as he receives SSecurity for renal and cardiac failure. Even though he's my dependent son, the fact that I'm supporting him due to his disability doesn't matter- just his age. I was hoping for at least the $600 amt. for myself but since I can claim him on my income taxes my tax liability was less, hence I get less of a stimulus. I feel cheated somehow as if my contributions don't count the same as someone who is fortunate enough to earn more than I do..and I certainly won't be using this meager amount to stimulate the economy. It's going right into savings.---Kathy

Well, as far as we calculated we should be eligable for the entire amount. No idea what happened.

Yep, single mom here too. I only got $300 for me and $600 for kids. I had been expecting more, but my tax liability played a part. I own a business and go to school full time so I have serious deductions. A little disappointed but better than nothing.
