My question has nothing to do with how antsy I am beginning to get to close on our BCV contract...really;) TT&More has had ours and the seller signed documents for a little over a week and we are still waiting to hear if/when we close. Judging by others timelines, it should be soon and then another couple of weeks after that (I am assuming up to 3 weeks?) for us to be "in the system".

Anyway, we are beginning to plan a trip with my best friend and her kids for the first week in January (1/1-1/6). We are going to stay at BLT and I will rent points if no studio is available those 5days (saving out DVC points for BCV in March).

Here is my question: Can I check room availablity before my points are loaded? I know there i often a lag between getting a member # and actually having the points there to book a trip.

Thanks for the info...

I think that you can check availability as soon as you have your online account set up.
I've read that people get their account before points are loaded, instead MS gave me the activation code only after points were loaded (it took a few more days). But I didn't insist to have it before because I didn't really need it.

I cannot check availability online for BLT at the moment for the first week of January, the system is down ATM. The first week of January can book fast, especially the first few days and during the maraton (I don't know exactly the date).
Later in January is one of the slowest period for DVC.

Thanks for the info. I figured that the first week of January (especially this year) will fill up quickly. I think a lot of schools have that week off. I am a teacher and don't have much flexibility as to when I travel but we don't go back until 1/7 next year :)

So, it sounds like I will be able to check availability even before I have points.
thx

....(snip)....... We are going to stay at BLT and I will rent points if no studio is available those 5 days (saving out DVC points for BCV in March). ......

If you are unable to book a BLT studio with points, neither will an owner willing to rent points to you. Renting points is a misnomer - you are really renting a reservation. There has to be availability to get a reservation.

So unless someone already has a confirmed reservation available to be rented (and that is probably a long shot), you would be out of luck as far as BLT goes. Of course you could check with the DRC to see if any villas or CR hotel rooms are available to book for cash if that would work for you. Then the points could be used for a future stay.

If you are not able to book BLT but willing to consider other DVC resorts for your first stay, you will probably be able to stay on points for that week. There might be a problem with the nights at the end of the week as that is Marathon Weekend. The DVC resorts tend to fill up rather quickly for that time after the 7 month window opens.

Good luck and Congratulations on your purchase. Welcome HOME!

When I was looking the other day, the studio for BLT-BCV-BWV had nothing open (that can change). A studio at SSR-OKW were available (that can also change).
