Still Sassy after all this time!

Jeni I'm glad to hear that things are going great for you and Roger. 2009 just might be your year.

Good morning, Sassies! Sorry to have been MIA, but I have been helping my friend's family and have been quite distracted. Can't seem to get them off my mind, actually. Her husband went into surgery yesterday to stabilize the spine but I have not gotten an update yet. They tried to bring him up from his sedation coma a few days ago but he was so agitated they had to sedate him again and try the surgery that way. Outlook for the brain still looks good but he more than likely won't have use of the lower extremities. My friend is, in her words, "terrible":sad1: . I wish I could fix it.

Who has big new year's plans? We are just going to a neighborhood party - I refuse to drive on New Year's. Anyone jetting off to the Big Apple to watch that sparkly ball drop?:)

Happy Birthday, Kimmy!!!!!!!!! Make it a good one!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Doctors have been incorrect before.

The big ball at my house :happytv:

Kimmy I hope you have a grand birthday. Just think of the millions of people celebrating with you.

Wilma I'm still praying for your friend. I hope they get some unexpected good news for the new year.

The older I get the more I don't like going out on New Year's Eve. Especially since I've had kids. I just want to hang around the house and watch my neighbors shoot fireworks

from my own backyard. We are going to a party around the corner for a bit but Kelsie is having a few friends over so I need to be here (which is really where I'd rather be).

Tricia - Thats my plan too. It's pretty open around my new place so I can see tons of fireworks.

How fun to have your birthday on the biggest party day of the year!!

We made it back safe and sound from beautiful COLD Colorado!! They had a huge blizzard in that part of the country on Christmas day through Friday, but the roads were mostly clear by Saturday when we left. One of the mornings we were there it was 4 degrees and the windchill was -19!!! This desert dweller isn't used to that anymore!! It was kind of a weird wedding-they had the reception at the church's school in the gym! And we had grape juice mixed with Sprite-that was the only drink they served. The bride's family is very religious and they have all taken a vow never to drink alcohol, so it was a bit of a bummer. Plus, the bride is only 18, and my nephew is 20, so they aren't old enough to drink anyway. They've only known each other 6 months, and they are each other's first loves. Not sure I would've wanted my 18 year old daughter to marry her first boyfriend!! Plus, he recently joined the navy and is stationed in Pensacola, so they left right after the wedding for Florida. She's never been away from home (she was still sharing a room at home with her sister), and now she's going someplace far away with no friends or family, and my nephew still has to live in the barracks so she'll be totally alone. I think they have a hard road ahead of them.

Wilma~I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's DH!! Is there any update on his condition??

Bex~did the Buy Guy bring you a plane ticket for Christmas??? The Melting Pot??? I'm drooling with jealousy!

Bonnie~sorry you're sick!! Are you feeling any better? Becca needs to send you her Lysol bubble!

Judi~you're having Indian Summer in the middle of winter!!

Shannon~I've never been to DC, but I would LOVE to go. The Pompeii exhibit sounds fabulous! I love museums. We unfortunately do not have good museums here.

Tricia~I don't enjoy going out for New Year's Eve either. It's too crowded and expensive, and too many drunks are driving! I'm embarassed to admit it, but we usually fall asleep before midnight! Man, it's a bummer getting old! :teeth:

Jeni~camping sounds like fun! I'm glad you and Roger are still together. Sounds like your kids really like him, too! :thumbsup2 Does he have any children?

Anf if you've read all of this sorry for the super long post!! :flower3:

Happy New Year, Sassies! Hope everyone has a great time. We are invited to the neighbor's house tonight, but I just want to stay home. It is SUPER windy tonight!

Happy 2009

We started the New Year at 2 degrees. It's already 12 degrees. This year is better by the hour. :jumping1:

Judi just think by lunch time you should be in the 20's. Heat wave for sure.

Happy 2009 to all you wonderful and sassy ladies. Kimmy we had a really great time celebrating your birthday last night. What did you do?

I went to bed around 2:00 this morning so I really should still be sleeping right now. :guilty: Once the sun peeks into the window I'm done.

Morning Sassy Ladies.

Hope everyone is ready for 2009. I certainly am.

Good evening, Sassy ones! I have an announcement!

THE PUPPY IS COMING!!! That's right, we are picking him up on Sunday morning. He's a tri color smooth collie and we are still debating his name. He was the one who came to us first when we went to meet the pups. He hopped right into my lap, and then Mr. FOP's, and looked at us with an "I'm your new best friend" look. He's a real sweetie and we are really happy. At first I was a bit bummed that there were no rough collies left to choose from, but the breeder only had roughs that looked a lot like Linus so it's probably better for us to go in a different direction. Barney, in particular, was worried about how he would take to having a new dog that looked so much like Linus. So, let the fun begin! Who's taking bets on how much sleep we'll get that first night???;)

Anyone have any cool resolutions for the new year?

Angie, thanks for asking about my friend's DH. He had his surgery on the 30th and was extubated yesterday. He even talked to my friend a bit yesterday, and she was so happy. The surgery went really well - they were going to get him up to a chair today. Outlook for the lower extremity paralysis is still poor, so rehab will start soon. Still, a far better start to the year than the way 2008 ended.:thumbsup2 Oh, and my Dsis lived in Pensacola for a while and I think you might be right. Hopefully she will get to know the other navy wives well and they will take care of each other.

See you all in the morning! Gotta get up early and begin puppy proofing!:dogdance:

How exciting Wilma~a new puppy! :dogdance: Do you have any names in the running that you are deciding on? Are you sticking with the peanuts theme? How about Charlie?

I hope you all had a great start to the new year yesterday. Today I start back on my diet. I'm still going to WW but you could say I took the month of December off. :sad2: Bad Tricia!

How are the snowbound Michigan folks doing today? We are going to be in the 70's today. Yesterday we were in the 50's all day. :confused3 You never know what to wear any more.

Happy 2009 Sassies! I had the stomach flu New Years Eve and still felt crummy yesterday. It has officially got us all now even though it took 2-1/2 weeks to do it!

Sorry I'm late Kimmy!:guilty:
Mickey-Minnie-Donald-Birthday.jpg

Wilma, glad to hear some positive news about your friends dh! And glad to hear about the new puppy! We saw Marley and Me last night and I cried like a baby!

Tricia, we only have a dusting of snow now which is fine by me! I have set up my work out area in a corner of the basement that no one else uses so you have to be my cattle prod and get me going!

Hi Judi, Jeni, Bonnie, Shanaynay and everyone else I may be foregetting in my post sickness fog!

KIMMY!!! I missed your birthday! :sad2: Hope it was great!!!

ANGIE: Welcome back from your very frigid trip!! Yikes! And I've been to a wedding very similar to the one you got back from. My cousin went from party girl to verrrry religious, married a Brethran man (very similar to Amish). Most subdued wedding ever! The butter for the rolls was home-churned. I am way too lazy to churn my own butter!!!

Can't wait to see you & Wilma next month!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: (you too Bonntastic!;) )

WILMA: Congrats on the puppy! Can't wait to see pics! And again, my thoughts & prayers are with your friend's husband & family. I can't even imagine what they are going through. I imagine they have a very long road ahead of them.

No resolutions for me... Rules are made to be broken!

Christmas has officially left the building inside my house but when you walk outside it's still there. I think I will tackle that today after a grocery trip to Wally World.

Shannon do you go to DC often? I've only been once and it was just a stop over for two days. We really did try to cram everything or at least as much as possible into those two days but I'd love to go back for an entire week.

Still haven't stashed our Christmas stuff yet. Recovering from New Year's Eve sucked up most of my day yesterday. That was the first (and probably last) time Ryan & I ever went out for New Year's. We usually just stay & hang with the kids. Rough night!!! (Ryan's mother came over to watch Riley-- Reece went to a friend's house-- and also was our driver for the evening.)

And yes, we get into DC once a month or so to take advantage of all of the FREE museums & events. Love it!:thumbsup2 Ryan works in the city a lot, so he doesn't usually come with us on our weekend excursions. Feels too much like going to work for him.

Good morning Sassies! I think my inner self is confused and thinks its spring because I could not stop cleaning like it was. The basement is not scrubbed, vaccuumed and rearranged. Apparently I had been neglecting it since I found a few spider carcasses behind the tv stand. We moved the wii downstairs so now its much more cozy for wii matches.

Shannon, I want to go to all the Smithsonians. I have never been to DC, Brian has a lot since his dad worked for the government they went several times. Now that I have cousin who just moved their and some friends to visit, maybe I can convince him to go soon.

Glad you're feeling better! I really thought you might have dodged that flu bug!!! I think your bleach arsenal has finally failed you. Or, maybe you're getting soft?

 I guess spring is in the air (between our ears), b/c I was struck by the Spring Cleaning fairy last week. And I think all the Sassies should come to DC sometime!!! We'd have so much fun!! Hopefully this spring we'll be upgrading to a larger home, so I'll have room for everyone! :woohoo:

Hi Ladies!

Did everyone have a nice christmas? What is everyone doing for New Year's Eve?

I got some camping gear. Roger the kids and I went up to the Peace River for the weekend, we had a blast. I met his brother and sil. They like me :cool1: Roger's done for now. I've met the family. :rotfl:

The kids found a great rope swing from an old tree and we had a blast swinging into the river...although the water was like ice.

That sounds great Jeni! Glad things are going so well for you & Roger.

Happy New Year, Sassies! Hope everyone has a great time. We are invited to the neighbor's house tonight, but I just want to stay home. It is SUPER windy tonight!

You weren't kidding about the wind! Everyone's Christmas decorations flew down, and Riley almost got blown away in the parking lot of the post office!

As for New Year's....:rolleyes1 Went to a party at Montclair Golf Club. Open Bar. Nuff said. (ok, I have a lot more to say, but I'll say it via PM as it ended up being a most humiliating night! ) Let me know if anyone wants the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!:rotfl:

Happy Saturday Ladies! Saving us from page 5.

Do your children go back to school on Monday? Mine do I'm so excited :lmao: they get two whole weeks of school then a 4 day weekend.

Good morning to you too!! And YES my kids go back Monday, and YES, I am excited!!! Because Riley was sick for almost 2 weeks before break, and missed those days of school too. So... over a month with the little man has been great, but... my house looks like a war zone! Ready for a few hours of uninterrupted cleaning!!!:laundy:

Hi there, Sassies! I am almost at the end of my puppy preparations. It's like having a toddler all over again - as if I don't have enough of that on a daily basis!:rotfl: . So, we get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to go and retrieve Wally the Collie.

So, I am stealing an idea from the CB and posting it here in our Sassy corner of the world. Everyone needs to play along, or I will just look like a silly, bored woman. So, get introspective here and think of 25 things that describe you. From the mundane to the obscure, it is all welcome!

Me, in a nutshell -

1) I have recently fallen in love with artichokes.
2) I was the 6th grade spelling bee winner and competed at the regional bee where I lost on the word "syzygy".
3) I love Nana's Cucina Guacamole chips.
4) My DH is a far better Disney planner than I am, but I had to break him in because he knew nothing of Disney when we met!
5) I would love to have a 20th anniversary re-commitment ceremony at WDW.
6) After I turned 30, I began to get carsick if I rode in the back seat of the car.
7) I attended a YWCA summer camp called Camp Iva from ages 8-12 and it gave me some of the best memories of my life.
8) Of all places on earth, I am most comfortable in water.
9) I asked my DH out on our first date minutes after breaking up with my then fiance. We have been together for 20 years, married for 14.
10) My house has too much clutter.
11) My husband did not realize before we got married that I was not the housekeeper he had imagined.
12) I waver in and out of practicing religion, but am very concious of the spiritual side of life.
13) I love, love, love fine paper but write few letters these days.
14) Someday I will travel to Greece and eat feta cheese 24/7.
15) I prefer modern, abstract art to more concrete forms.
16) I enjoy going to the movies alone.
17) I rarely read fiction; the exception is Harry Potter.
18) My mother wanted to name me Genevra and my father wanted to name me Ginger.
19) I am a reality TV junkie - the baser, the better!
20) To this day, I cannot drink coffee due to one night in college featuring a bottle of ouzo and a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans.
21) I am a night owl and both of my boys have inherited the same trait!
22) I will not drink milk.
23) My writing is far funnier if composed after 10 pm.
24) I often have trouble keeping my spirits up during the holidays.
25) I am ever so surprised at how attached you can be to ladies you met on the Disboards but have never (or rarely) met in real life.:goodvibes

Okay, so get working. Enquiring minds want to know! I know we did this at least once, but I think that was way back on the thread when we were Nothings so we need to update it with sassy information.
