I hope someone can help me (still waiting a call back from my DR since 9). I was on the April 7th Wonder and I am still rocking. I have taken both types of Dramamine and nothing is helping!!!! I still feel like I am on the boat. Has anyone else had this??? When will I feel better? And if you have had it, what helped??

Thank you so much!
Kim

I too had problems after I sailed. Usually happens in the shower for some reason. It should subside. The doctor may have some options for you. Just know that you are not alone:)

I was also on the April 7th Wonder. Boy, that first night I couldn't believe the rocking. It was my first cruise and so many people say you can't even feel the ship move...yeah, right! I had the same rocking feeling but it finally subsided. I wore the prescription patch and had no problem. Just an uneasy feeling. I have heard from several people that Bonine is better than Dramamine. Maybe you should try one of those. Good luck.
Even with all of the bad seas we had the first 2 nights, I still want to go again. I am going through "cruise withdrawal"

Thank you Vicki and Bigmac. My DR is calling in some Antivert. I pray that helps. Having this and 2 small kids is not working lol

Bigmac~ We also heard the same thing about the seas on Sunday night. Both DH and I also had the patches on. I only felt the rocking of the boat. Our server, James, said that he was also a little sick on Sunday night. The patch also worked great for us. The only thing that I had was very dry mouth. I could feel the motion of the ship, but was never sick (thank goodness). This rocking feeling actually got worse a day after I took off the patch :(. About cruise withdrawal....not feeling that right now lol but ask me, once I get this under control ;)

There is actually a name for this, Mal De Debarqument syndrome. I had it for 3 days after my one week cruise, it was miserable! I am not a Dr., so check with yours before doing this, but I have heard that an antihistamine like Benedryl can really, really help relieve the symptoms. Good Luck, I hope you feel better soon.

We had this problem with our first cruise, we thought all the islands were moving! It took almost 2 weeks after we returned home to stop moving, the problem turned out to be the patch we used to prevent motion sickness. Some of us had used it the whole trip and we were experiencing withdrawls from the meds in the patch, one of our group had to wean off the patch for a month. I have never used the patch again, use bonnine only as needed and only have the moving problem for a day or 2 after we return.
Make sure your dr knows you used the patch and how much you used it. Hope you are better soon.

This happened to me on my first cruise. I felt like I couldn't stand up straight, or walk without staggering. You should be fine ant day now:)

Thank you Sue, Bev and terri. DH should be home soon with the anitvert. I pray that it helps. This is just horrible. I feel like a drunk lol. And taking care of 2 small kids has been no easy task.

I felt it for about a month after the cruise. Especially when I thought about the dizziness and laid down. The Doctor prescribed bonine. Went away gradually so that it happened less and less. When I concentrated on something I wouldn't feel it, but when I had nothing to do I would.

It's one of the souvenirs of cruising.

rlskes,

There's only one thing you can do: Get back on the ship!

Seriously, though, I experience this for a few days after every cruise. It never bothers me that much, thankfully. I look at it as a souvenier, as well.

I had the same problem for 3 weeks after my 1-19-02 Magic cruise. I had cruised 3 other times and had "rocked" for a couple days. I don't know why it lasted so long after that cruise - especially since it was the calmest waters of all my cruises! Maybe it was the 7 days; the longest cruise before that had been 5 days.

But it's not going to stop me from going in October using my $99 vouchers!! And I'm looking forward to booking another 7-day in the future!

I had the same feeling, which started in St. Thomas and was still feeling after getting off the ship, and while at WDW I was still feeling it, but when I got on the plane, and got back to Phoenix I was over it. First time I was thankful for flying 6 plus hours (with lay overs).

Thanks again for all the replies. All I can say, is this is for the birds. Thankfully, I can walk now with out bumping into walls. I am still so dizzy and after being on my feet for a while, I get sick (with the anitvert). I can understand some rocking, but not being able to walk....shesh. I refuse to get back on the ship. DH is taking DD by himself for the Nov. and the May 2003 cruise. I just could not stand going through this again. sorry to whine, I was just not planning on this part of the cruise :(

rlskes,

I know what you are going through. I suffered from a bout of vertigo in December (non-cruise related) and thought I would kill myself so I could be rid of the misery. Antivert did not help, but my Doctor also prescribed Valium, which helped with the symptoms, and did not make me as drowsy. Hang in there. It will get better, and it will be such a relief.

I would talk with your doctor before your next cruise and try something that may keep your equilibrium in check before during and after the cruise. I have problems with vertigo all the time. I cannot stand the spinning rides anymore and climbing ladders and looking up make me dizzy at times. I would not let this hamper my attempts to have a great time on a cruise with my family.

I have had problems with motion sickness and we still own a boat that I go out on every weekend during the summer months. Bonine works great for me. I also have the wrist bands that I wear along with the bonine for those times when the water is rough.

Hang in there, you will get through it.

I have Vertigo from an inner ear problem. Antivert usually works very well for me. There are two different strengths available, there is a 12.5 mg tablet that is blue and white and there is a 25mg tablet that is yellow and white. If you're taking the 12.5 mg tablet, maybe calling the doctor and asking if you could take two of them might help.

I have to take a diuretic to help control the amount of fluid in my inner ear canals. Sometimes just that additional amount of fluid draining is enough to alleviate the imbalance and the ringing in my ears. I think taking a decongestant like Benadryl serves a similar purpose, to help control the fluid in the ears.

One last suggestion, if you are near a AAA travel office. I bought a set of the wrist bands from them for less than $10 and they might also help you.

Good luck, i believe it should subside soon.

like leann2255 i suffered from vertigo for a very long time, more then a year. i went through several tests and treatments. i also could not take the antivert made me ill.i agree noone can understand how awful it really is unless you experience it . among the many things recommended to alleviate symptoms which was a great help was sleeping sitting up, or as nearly upright as you can. my problem was not related to the cruise but it wouldn't cost you anything to try it and i don't think it could hurt , maybe it will help.good luck i hope you feel better soon
