If you are a member and happen to be staying at another Disney property are you able to pool hop?

I am amazed at the little questions that keep popping into my head. it's like I'm in overdrive because we aren't "going home again".

i am driving myself nuts I think.

No. You must be staying on points so that your resort ID says "DVC Member" to pool hop.

You must be staying on points in order to have the pool hopping privilege. Early on, some local DVC members used "pool hopping" to turn WDW into their regular swimming hole.

And, you still can't go to AKL or Storm-Along Bay unless you are at that resort. DVC membership doesn't matter at those 2.

Not that I'm doing this, but...what if I used points to stay at a non-DVC resort? THEN I could?

Just hypothetical. :)

No. To legally pool hop, you must be staying at a DVC resort on points. Here's the verbage from the Members' Website:

Pool Hopping Information for 2005

You and any Guests staying with you at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Disney's Beach Club Villas or Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are permitted to use other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you're staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a Host/Hostess at the Front Desk of the resort hotel you wish to visit to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your "Key to the World" card with your "Disney Vacation Club Member" designation on it to use other resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. In addition, this restriction includes the leisure pools at these two resort hotels. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time because of capacity limitations. Due to expected high occupancy, Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during the following dates*:

February 20 - 26, 2005
March 19 - 27, 2005
May 27 - 30, 2005
June 27 - July 4, 2005
September 2 - 5, 2005
November 21 - 27, 2005
December 17, 2005 - January2, 2006

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

Best wishes -

Cool, good to know, although to be honest I doubt I'd ever stay at a non-dvc resort in FL. And, that answers/addresses something I've seen in other pool hopping threads, about "Well, if I can't hop to SAB, can I hop to the quiet pools?" *grin*

Maybe I'm just missing it, but where does it say you have to be staying on points?

It just says DVC members have to be staying at those resorts and have a card with the resort name and DVC member on the card.

The rules say, "You must present your 'Key to the World' card with your 'Disney Vacation Club Member' designation on it to use other resort hotel pools."

Your "Key to the World" card only says "Disney Vacation Club Member" if it's a member stay. If it's a cash stay or an inbound I.I. exchange, your card doesn't say "Disney Vacation Club Member" -- even if you are a member.

From my understanding you can not use the quiet pools also.

they have been known to bend the rules in extreme circumstances

we did pool hop to WL pool when we stayed at PO/FQ early Dec 2002 - we called before heading over and they told us Yes

If you are not staying on points or member cash, your key will not say DVC Member. Last May I used an AP rate for our last night at OKW, I had to get new keys and they did not say DVC Member, my parking permit did not say member parking permit and I was charged 75 cents per local call for that night.

Member cash nights (booked through member services) will say DVC Member on the card and everything is treated as a points stay, including housekeeping. When combined with a points stay, it's all treated as one stay, you will get one set of keys for the entire stay.
