My 210 points start August 2005?
If I opt to get the $2100 discount. How may total point will I have to use or borrow in 2006. if we plan to travel in let say October? Or to make it more confusing lets say May?

I need to go to DVC school. LOL

I answered your other post but will do the same here to:

This is DVC University. If you buy 210 and you have a trip this October you would have your current year 210 and the next year's 210 that you could borrow. It would be the same for May of 2006. If you are talking about October 2006 and you bank all of your 2005 points, you would have those plus your 2006 points plus you would be able to borrow your 2007 points. That would give you 630 to use.

August 210 points : For use August 1, 2005 through July 31, 2006.
August 210 Points : For use August 1, 2006 through July 31, 2007
August 210 Points : For use August 1, 2007 through July 31, 2008

But if you sell back your 2005 points then it all changes and you would only have your 2006 and 2007 points to use. So subtract 210 from the above examples.

I think the confusion is coming from taking the $2100 instead of this year's points.

If you take the "cash" then you won't have any points until 8/06. How many you borrow to vacation in Oct. or May from your 2006 points will depend on the vacation you opt for.

If you do not take the $2100 "cash" then you will have this year's points to use from Aug. 05 to the end of July. 06. Your next year's points will start on Aug. 1, '06.

It states " $10 per vacation point toward the cost of your ownership interest totaling 2100 and keep your first use year vacation points~or~recieve a compimentary vacation equeal to the size of the ownership interest you purchase =210 points.

so do I get the $2100 discount and bank 210 if I dont want to travel till next year 2006?
giving me 630 point with the 2007's 210 borrowed

I am feeling dumb. :earboy2:

Okay, now I got it! I think!

You will either keep your points to use beginning August 1st, or, if you want to travel before that, they will give you $2100 worth of vacation to use prior to August 1st. Which would mean, you can vacation in Feb, March, Apr, May, June, or July 2005 with that $2100 (or 210 points to use at another DVC resort). OR, you don't go until August 2005 through July 2006 and use your own points (the 210 you are getting this August).

If you take the $2100 vacation on Disney, then you are essentially using your August 2005 points before they are available to use at SSR. They are doing this so you don't have to wait so long to vacation, but they aren't "giving" you anything extra.

If you don't vacation on Disney before August '05, you will get your points 8/1/05. At that time you can bank them or you could then borrow your August '06 points. You would have 420 points available to you on 8/1/05 if you don't take then incentive to vacation earlier.

PS I think I said in my previous post that your points were good until the next Sept. Actually it would be July....Sorry for more confusion.

You cannot get the $2100 and bank your 2005 points. You can do either. If you take the $2100, you will have 210 points to use 08/06. If you don't take the $2100, you can bank your 05 points, and on 8/1/06, you will get 210 more, at this time you can borrow your 07 points, and you will have 630 to use.

You are not dumb, this whole process is confusing!

Can I wait and travel after August 2006 and borrow for a total of 630 points?
210 banked for 2005
210 to use for 2006 (after august)
210 borrowed from 2007.

I want to treat the entire family. 2 - 2 bedrooms for a week.

Yes! Your 2005 points will be there if you don't take the $2100.
Can I join your family! :D

credit option...$10 per vacation point toward the cost of your ownership interest totaling $2100 and keep your first use year vacation points OR recieve a compimentry vacation equal to the size of the ownership interest you puchase...

option 1 reads that we get the discount and keep the first use year vacation points.

We get the 2100 off and the first year points.. ya hoooooo!!!
Taking a trip in 2006 (after august) with 630 points to use and we got the 2100 discount.

That is exactly what my guide told me today. :jumping1:

Actually, you are being mislead a little bit. If you buy now, you would normally get 2004 points as your first year's points--in fact, if you have an August use year any closing before July 31, 2005 would normally give you the 2004 point allotment that would have to be used by July 31, 2005 (or banked if you are within your banking deadline). So, you are really giving up the 2004 points (in effect) in exchange for the $2100 credit. Your first points will be given on August 1, 2005. I'm curious--as of what date will you start paying dues and when do you close?

I just got all the paperwork in the mail. I believe I have 30 days to return it. I did not know I was getting points for 2004. I did not sign up till 2005. And it was a presale for S.S. for august 2005 point start.

We just got back 2 days ago from 12 days and not ready to go back for a while.

Do you think I should take the points and not the $cash back?
I am open to change if there is a better way..

In this case, I think the purchase is for one of the buildings not yet open at SSR. If this is the case, there are no 2004 points anyway (since the building won't open until sometime in 2005) and the $2100 discount and Aug 2005 points is the usual incentive offer.

If the purchase was for one of the first four SSR buildings or one of the other DVC resorts- points from August 2004 would have been in play.

Sounds like there will be 210 points available in August 2005 and if those are banked, 420 points available after August, 2006 ... and ... if August 2007 points are borrowed, 630 points available for a trip between August 1, 2006 and July 31, 2007.

Enjoy!

My guess is the building you are buying into will not be completed until 2005, so there are no 2004 points available. If you were buying into an existing building, they probably would have given you the option of August 2004 points (existing buildings are soldout I believe) but no credit.

Rookie, it sounds to me like some of the people answering are wrong. I just bought for August UY too- let me try my best to explain. Basically, Webmaster Doc is correct. Technically, we have no 2004 points. The incentive they are offering then is you may take a vacation now and pay normally for your 210 points. They would "give" you points to use if you wanted to go before August 2005. But, since you don't, take the $2100. You can't not take the $2100 and bank the points from 2004, b/c you don't have any. It's just a "free vacation" offer since we don't get our points for a while- which is also why you won't begin paying your dues or the monthly note (if fincanced) until July or August. So if you are going Oct 2006, you will need to bank your 2005 points and then you will have 210 points from 2005 and 210 points from 8/2006 totalling 420 points. But, if you don't plan on going from 8/2007-7/2008, then you can borrow your 2007 points for that October 2006 vacation and will have 630 points to use. Hope this helps. It's better to ask someone who's going through it since this offer is a little different than the offers from the past where they "sold" their first year's points. We don't have that option, which is actually better in my opinion.

I just wanted to confirm what brandi said.

She is correct and that is the offer we received also.

I think it is great that you get to keep your 2005 points and receive the $10 credit. You will also not have to pay dues or loan (if financed) until your contract closes, which wont be until your building is finished.

I am learning and may get it before I have to book my first vacation. Not!
Now its time to figure out who to take and who wont flake? How long and where? I location or two. Save some points to go without the kids or not?
Fun things to think about!

Thanks again.

Just to clarify--I fully understood things exactly as Webmaster Doc posted them. The point I was making was that normally when you make a deposit, which you still do in this case, you will be getting the points that are in play at that time. So, this is just an incentive to put up with deferred gratification. It's still a good deal, IMHO, but you ARE really giving up a year's points any way you cut it. Your contract still expires the same year as the rest of the SSR buildings and are still paying the same nominal cost per point as I understand it. As compensation, they are offering the $10 per point and the prorated dues from a late summer closing. A good deal, IMHO, but really no different than if you got your 2004 points and rented them out (you would have to pay an extra 5 months or so maintenance fees in that case, though). Personally, I would jump on the $10 per point deal as long as I didn't want to travel before August, but I would still realize I wasn't getting something for nothing.

I also have an Aug UY and when I bought in '03, for points available as of Aug '04, I chose the 15th as my payment date. My first payment was due in May as that was when my closing month was. I just did an add on for the new phase and the closing and payment dates are exactly the same so you might want to make sure the July or August dates are correct to begin your payments. However, my dues were not due until Sept.
