I enjoy having housekeeping every day, and my traveling companion and I are not slobs. But I like coming back to the room and the beds are made--the way the housekeeping staff makes them, not the way I sort of throw it together--and there are fresh washcloths and towels. Also, sometimes the floor needs to be cleaned even if it was just cleaned yesterday. Depends on the weather, etc. And sometimes the trash needs to be taken out, even if it was just taken out yesterday, which is also dependent on many variables.
So . . . need? Of course it's not need. I mean, I don't need Disney to make food for me either--I could just have a big grocery order and eat in the room and make sandwiches for the parks. But I'm on vacation. I like having someone else do some of the things that I do for myself at home.
But there has to be some housekeeping. We were at AKL in December 2021 and we got housekeeping ONCE the entire week-long stay. We lived through it, but I had to call for towels twice, and fortunately, because I'd read these boards, I knew to bring my own trash bags with me. Incidentally, the lack of housekeeping was a little too obvious in the hallways, where guests were just leaving their food trays and garbage and stacks of used towels and there was no one to pick them up for days at a time. Sure, the guests should've done this, but when one is paying $700 or $800/night for a hotel room, a few basic housekeeping things are kind of expected.
To each his own, though. This is just my personal preference.
