I've been a member since 2005. I found the board easy to use until last year and I was banned for a month or so. I don't want to mess up again.
What does bump mean?
Can I post and get PM's?

Bump means to make a junk post (like just saying "bump" or "posting to move up thread") just to keep a thread at the top of the page.

Yes, you can PM. They're called "conversations" here, and to start one you can hover over the avatar of another user and click on the "start conversation" button.
