Steve Irwin Memorial....

How precious this little girl is and what strength she has for someone her age. This is such a touhing photo of her trying to comfort her mum. Bless her little heart. I am crying like a baby all over again....

Here are my thoughts:

1. Bindi has the sweetest voice ever. If she lived in the US, she'd be doing Disney movies by now. Her composure was remarkable.

2. Poor Bob! He was going to have the most fun Dad ever - imagine having a father who liked to play in the mud with reptiles! It's such a tragedy that he will miss out on that.

3. What a perfect service for Steve! Who else would have the Wiggles, bloopers, and elephants at his memorial service?! Solemn at times, touching at times, wacky at times...just perfect.

I held it together until Bindi spoke...what parent could watch that with a dry eye?

Right as they were loading the truck, it was time for someone to pick up DS from choir. I volunteered, so I could boo-hoo loudly all by myself in the car.

I just can't believe Steve is gone.

What got to me were all the children in the audience crying. That in itself shows how much he really touched children.

I decided not to watch the memorial last night. I knew I couldn't handle it. I agree with you though, that picture is amazing--poor Bindi is comforting her mother. My heart goes out to the whole family.

I did see a little bit of Bindi's speech on the news this morning. I cried just over that. Not nearly as bad as I am right now though after seeing that picture...

I didn't watch very much of the memorial last night.......I almost felt like I shouldn't be. After the first shot of Terri holding the baby and choking back tears, I felt it was such a private time for them and I was almost intruding watching it. I know, it sounds foolish, and I have no idea what it is like to be in the public eye every day..........I'm sure they are used to cameras around them all the time, but in a time like that I can't imagine sharing it with millions of people. My heart goes out to them.

Me too, my own DS was sobbing through half of it. :sad1:

I was trying so hard not to cry because I hurt my nose really bad friday and it actually hurts to cry but the only way I could have prevented crying was to not have watch it.

I was so amazed by Bindi what an awesome little girl.

Everytime the word cockatoo was mentioned it made me cry,,, I got Hope my cockatoo at just about the same time we started watching Steve on animal planet and her and I would watch it togther.

Watched it last night. Yes, couldn't help but cry. I was impressed with Bindi, quite mature for her age.

I wish they would air it again, but I don't suppose they would do that for something like that. I wanted to see it, but I went to bed. Now, I'm mad at myself.

DisTeach, see my post #47 - there is a good link to coverage

very touching memorial....i really felt for Wess as he struggled not to cry as he spoke about his history with steve.
I love the song 'true blue'...never heard of the artist before but i really liked him.

Disneymouse - that singer is John Williamson. He writes most of his songs, and is an iconic Australian performer. Quite popular here. I love the song True Blue - it tugs on the heart strings of most Australians! And it was very fitting for Steve Irwin, I think. I loved the service - it was very tasteful, intimate, and meaningful. Little Bindi is such a strong person - I don't think I would be able to do what she did.

Yes, do try and buy one. He is very Australian - if you have trouble with any of the words let me know - I might be able to help!!!!!
PS I love "We are Australian" - very patriotic for us.

Thank you for the link I missed it last night. Bindi is amazing, I could never get up in front of so many people and be so collected. And to do so at such an emotional time in her life is incredible to me. It was a very meaningful memorial so sad.

I thought the service was incredibly beautiful. I really liked the addition of the guy from the Wiggles...how perfect considering so many of Irwin's fans were children. It was hard watching Terri try to put on a brave face...and pictures I saw this morning broke my heart as I saw John Stainton hold her and Wes hold her. It broke my heart to hear Wes start to cry. I've honestly been very concerned about how he was doing. Bindi was an incredible pillar of strength. Most definitely her daddy's little girl. And seeing Steve's truck drive out...man, that was hard. The family photos at the end really got to me.

In all honesty, the only thing I didn't care for were tributes from people like Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake. I didn't get it. It seemed so out of place.

According to the Animal Planet website, it looks like they may run the memorial again tonight at 9pm est in case anybody missed it. The whole thing reminded me alot of the Princess Diana thing, how people we do not even know can touch us in such a way. They both died so young and with so much potential.
It is not on the Animal Planet website (you might have been seeing yesterday's schedule still up). I am a member of their forums and several of us have been posting on their boards and emailing them requesting that they re-air it. We have also requested the memorial service be put on DVD. At least one person has heard a response from them today and it was specifically said that right now they do not have plans to re-air the memorial service, but they may do so in the future. It was also not discussed to put it on DVD, but that they would be giving our feedback to the ones who make that decision.

thank you, I thought perhaps I was the only one thinking why, oh why were those two asked to give a tribute? neither of them spoke very well, or so I thought, and what was their real connection to Steve or the family? Russell Crowe yes, I believe they were friends and even Hugh Jackman, a countryman..

the memorial service is one to remember and it was such a celebration of his life and love of his family, although sad, it was wonderful

I also thought the Cameron Diaz/Justin Timberlake/Kevin Costner bits were a bit odd. :confused3

What an incredible service. The minute they showed Terri, I lost it. I thought Bob Irwin was the most touching. He spoke straight from the heart. The poor man. I was glad to hear that both of his daughters were there. Surprisingly, the pictures at the end made me smile. They were so sweet and so real. That is the image of the Irwins that I will all ways have. My dh didn't sleep well last night, it really haunted him. He and Steve are the same age.

I did too, but I thought Kevin Costner brought up a good point, that Steve was brave in yet another way and that was showing the world his true self, not afraid of any backlash or criticism in spite of the media attention that often gets in the way...

I am not sure if any of the above celebrities had any real connection to Steve, maybe they were a few of his favorite actors and they were asked to speak? I dunno.
