Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

Thank you.
Wow. When everyone sang that song I thought that Australia must be a great place to visit and live. Everyone showed so much love for their country. I think that I need to make a visit. I have always said that I would love to see Australia. After seeing this, I REALLY want to go!

You're welcome, that's a really great song too as is True Blue.. both very Aussie and no better person to sing them than John Williamson who also recorded them.

I thought the family did a good job of reflecting Steve's life. Even though Steve was known worldwide, he was just an Aussie bloke. The khaki clad Irwin family, friends, and zoo crew was very fitting. I thought Terri looked distraught. For me that was the most heart wrenching. What poise Bindi showed. Wow! I thought Wes was very moving. I cried hard at the end when Briano loaded up the truck and drove it out.

I was just wondering if anyone saw Kelsey and her mom and dad in the crowd?

Nutsy, Thank you for all the information. Please keep us up to date on anything else.

Home Among The Gum Trees.
Nutsy,
Is this an Aussie national pride song ? Everyone in the crocoseum seemed to know the all the words. Really nice song and fitting tribute to the bush that Steve loved. Thank you for posting the lyrics.

That song is known by young and old...kids learn it in school and so it's remembered as they grow.

Don't know that I'd call it an Aussie Pride song, it's just a real Aussie song, depicts Australia vey well

Actually, I was mistaken I'm sorry.. True Blue wasn't the sing along it was

Home Among The Gum Trees.

Home Among The Gum Trees

I've been around the world a couple
of times or maybe more
I've seen the sights, I've had delights
On every foreign shore
But when my friends all ask me the place
that I adore I tell them right away

(Chorus)
Give me a home among the gum trees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a kangaroo
A clothes-line out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

You can see me in the kitchen
Cookin' up a roast
Or Vegemite on toast
Just you and me, a cup of tea
Later on we'll settle down
And mull up on the porch
And watch the possums play

(Chorus)

Some people like their houses
With fences all around
Others live in mansions
And some beneath the ground
But me, I like the bush, you know
With rabbits running 'round
And a pumpkin vine out the back

(Chorus Twice)

Yep, got me all homesick now :p

I have been following this thread but this is my first time posting on it. I wanted to thank Nutsy and everyone else for posting information as it came out in Australia since Steve Irwin passed away. I have been checking daily to see if information had been posted and of course, to get information about the memorial service. I DVRed the service and watched it this morning. I think they did a wonderful job! I was in tears and then I would be laughing. In my opinion, they made the right choice about the service being in Steve's Crocoseum. The truck being packed up at the end, the guy singing up on the platform where they fed the crocs, the elephants that he loved so much coming out, all of the animals at the service, etc. It just all fit.

Anyway, I just really wanted to thank all of you for keeping me (and everyone else) informed about what has been going on at this sad time.

Sandra

I missed out on watching the memorial service. I am so bummed! I so wanted to see this. I will just have to wait until barbara walters does her interview.

Thanks for all the posts keeping us here stateside informed!

Last night, when my dd, Kelly, & I were watching the tribute with everyone joining in the songs she remarked that Australia had awesome songs, and we have such boring slow songs. :)

Now we want to go visit the Australian Zoo.

Nutsy: Thank you for the words to True Blue and the song Home among the Gum trees. I have heard that song before if you can believe it my grandparents use to sing it...Makes me wonder!!

My daughter (17) loved the artist who wrote/sang that song.

I cried and cried and cried. When (BrianO?) was loading up Steve's truck and he slowly drove it out of the stadium, I completely lost it...

Such a beautiful celebration of Steve's life. It was definitely a fitting place to hold the memorial for him.

What a wonderfully fitting memorial service for such an amazing man! :grouphug:
It was so hard to watch his truck leaving...........I feel so bad for his family.....they truly truly loved him and so did we. :)

Nutsy thank you so very much for all you have done on this post to keep us all updated. :wave2: I was totally amazed at the comraderie that you Aussies have and I would one day love to visit your fine country and especially visit Steve's zoo! :)

This picture is gut wrenching.

I just finally got to watch the Memorial today. I TIVOed it last night.

From the minute Russel Crowe started talking about his "friend", I lost it.

My DS woke up from his nap as the pictures at the end were showing. I was a blubbering mess. DS looked at me & said "Mommy, why are you crying? Steve is on tv, you should be learning & laughing." That only made me tear up more. Good thing DS was close so I could hug & squeeze him.

Is it just me, but does anyone else think Terri seems to have aged since Steve's passing.. just in that pic, I know she's quite upset, but she just looks to have aged in the last couple of weeks.

Might just be me...duno.:confused3

I sure hope you were singing along mate. I love that song it's a real toe tapper... nice and lively and I love the actions the kids do too.::yes::

I can remember my two learning that song in Pre-School and performing it for the parents and the actions really make it I reckon.:)

I agree, she just looks so tired. She probably isn't resting good. I hope she has enough friends and family around her to help her with everything so that she can take some time to herself and grieve for the loss of her husband, and not have to push that to the backburner while helping everyone else deal with their loss (of a father, son, friend, etc..).
