Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

Wow, what a beautiful, moving tribute. I started crying when True Blue was being sung for the first time. Something about hearing a person's favorite song played at their memorial/funeral really gets to me. It was heartbreaking seeing Wes speak about his best mate, trying not to break down. I felt so bad for Terri and her children, Bob Sr. and John. If I'm still depressed and crying after 2 weeks, I can't even begin to imagine what they are going through.

I enjoyed laughing at all the clips showing Steve's crazy adventures.

I was amazed at Bindi's strength during her speech. It's hard to believe she's only 8 years old. Steve would have been so proud of her. She's so much like her father. The end was so sad, with Steve's truck being driven out of the Crocoseum and with all of the family pictures shown. Steve's boundless love for his family is clearly evident.

Steve was truly an extraordinary being, and he and his work will never be forgotten. We'll miss you, mate. Rest in peace.

WOW!!! What a beautiful memorial service. Bindi was so brave. She is an amazing little girl, her dad would be proud. The photomontage at the end went straight to my heart. I’m still choked up. Thank you Terri, Bindi, and Baby Bob for sharing such an awesome person with the whole world. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. :grouphug:

I was so glad to be turning the channel and come upon the memorial service. It was a very moving service especially when his daughter spoke. I also enjoyed watching the confessions show right after.

Wow. What a great way to pay respect to a man who meant so much to the world. Bindi spoke with such confidence and conviction, it was simply amazing. The last part had me in sobs and here I am now with tears still streaming down my cheek. Crikey Mate. You will be missed. :sad1:

I learned a lot about the kind of person that I want to be from Steve, and watching that memorial just made a lot of things click in my head. I'm still processing, but all of this has really motivated some changes in how I live my life.

Thinking about Steve, I think it's the passion with how he went about what he believed in. He didn't just care a little bit, he cared a lot and you knew he cared. To have been his family or in his close circle of friends must have been ... I don't even know that right now I have a word for it. :confused3

It almost seems like a character flaw or that I've wasted my life but I don't recall ever having that kind of passion for anything in my life.

He was a really good man.

I missed the first airing, but I'm taping it right now. I saw the first few minutes and about lost it when they showed baby Bob holding legos and just looking around at everything. He's about the same age as my son and it just broke my heart that he might not have any idea what's going on. :(

Bindi's words were beautiful. She is such a brave and smart little girl and amazes me everyday.

Edited to ask: Does anyone song the name of the song that everyone sang ?

Were you wanting to know the name of the song? If so.. it's called True Blue.

Steve was a True Blue Aussie a Fair Dinkum Aussie and John Williamson who sang it also recoreded it. It was Steve's favourite song.

You may like to have a read... for those who don't know or may not be sure.. see down below

An Australian, an Irishman and an Englishman were sitting in a bar. There was only one other person in the bar. The three men kept looking at this other man, for he seemed terribly familiar. They stared and stared, wondering where they had seen him before, when suddenly the Irishman cried out, "My God, I know who that man is. It's Jesus!"

The others looked again and, sure enough, it was Jesus himself, sitting alone at a table. The Irishman call out, "Hey! Hey, you! Are you Jesus?"

The man looks over at him, smiles a small smile and nods his head."Yes, I am Jesus" he says.

The Irishman calls the bartender over and says to him "I'd like you to give Jesus over there a pint of Guinness from me." So the bartender pours Jesus a Guinness and takes it over to his table. Jesus looks over, raises his glass, smiles thank you and drinks.

The Englishman then calls out, "Er, excuse me Sir, but are you Jesus?" Jesus smiles and says, "Yes, I am Jesus." The Englishman beckons the bartender and tells him to send over a pint of Newcastle Brown Ale for Jesus, which the bartender duly does. As before, Jesus accepts the drink and smiles over at the men.

Then the Australian calls out, "Oi, you! D'ya reckon you're Jesus, or what?"Jesus nods and says, "Yes, I am Jesus." The Australian is mighty impressed and has the bartender send over a pot of VB for Jesus, which he accepts with pleasure.

Some time later, after finishing the drinks, Jesus leaves his seat and approaches the three men. He reaches for the hand of the Irishman and shakes it, thanking him for the Guinness. When he lets go, the Irishman gives a cry of amazement. "Oh God, the arthritis is gone," he says. The arthritis I've had for years is gone. It's a miracle!"

Jesus then shakes the hand of the Englishman, thanking him for the Newcastle Brown Ale. Upon letting go, the Englishman's eyes widen in shock."By Jove," he exclaims, "The migraine I've had for over 40 years is completely gone. It's a Miracle!"

Jesus then approaches the Australian, who has a terrified look on his face.

"Back off, mate. I'm on compo".

Compo is Workers Compensation.. in other words.. the Aussie if off work on compo.. work associated injuries and doesn't want to be cured.. he'd have to go back to work if he did.:)

Hey True Blue, don't say you've gone
Say you've knocked off for a smoko
And you'll be back later on
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue

Give it to me straight
Face to face
Are you really disappearing,
Just another dying race,
Hey True Blue.

True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When he's in a fight?
Or will she be right?
True Blue, I'm asking you...

Hey True Blue, can you bear the load?
Will you tie it up with wire,
Just to keep the show on the road?
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue, now be Fair Dinkum Is your heart still there?
If they sell us out like sponge cake
Do you really care?
Hey True Blue.

True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When she's in a fight?
Or will she be right?
True Blue, I'm asking you... True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When he's in a fight?
Or will she be right?
True Blue ... True Blue.

Smoko
To 'knock off for a smoko' is to have a break for a coffee, tea or cigarette.

True Blue
Steadfast loyal Australian who displays the Aussie ideals of a fair go for all, mateship, having a go, and solving problems.

Fair Dinkum
Virtually the same as True Blue - honest, reliable, trustworthy, dinki-di; someone who has embraced the Aussie attitudes to everything, especially mateship. 'Are you fair dinkum?' means 'are you telling the truth?'

Beautiful, moving memorial. Steve would have wanted it that way. I was moved to tears during alot of it. His passing really stirred so many emotions in me. We'll miss you Steve. And I'm sure he's so proud of little Bindi. She really is her daddy's girl. I suspect we'll see wonderful things from her in the future.

What an amazing tribute. I was crying like a baby. I nearly lost it when his daughter Bindi stepped up like a trooper and gave a wonderful speech about her Dad, truly moving. I have one of those tension headaches now from trying not to cry, then crying! I think it was the perfect tribute to Steve, some sadness, and some smiles, especially the flowers that spelled out the word that Steve made famous "Crikey!"

Thank you, Nutsy, & everyone else who contributed to this thread. I learned some things :flower:

My dd & I watched the tribute. She used to watch the Crocodile Hunter a lot, and so she commented several times that she had seen "that show" and "that show."

It was a good tribute, and I agree that Bindy is so poised and confident, especially for an 8 year old. My heart hurt for Terri and Bob during the tribute. My dd & I sniffled through it, but that photo montage at the end sent the tears rolling down our cheeks.

God Bless, Steve, and thank you.

Actually, I was mistaken I'm sorry.. True Blue wasn't the sing along it was

Home Among The Gum Trees.

Home Among The Gum Trees

I've been around the world a couple
of times or maybe more
I've seen the sights, I've had delights
On every foreign shore
But when my friends all ask me the place
that I adore I tell them right away

(Chorus)
Give me a home among the gum trees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a kangaroo
A clothes-line out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair

You can see me in the kitchen
Cookin' up a roast
Or Vegemite on toast
Just you and me, a cup of tea
Later on we'll settle down
And mull up on the porch
And watch the possums play

(Chorus)

Some people like their houses
With fences all around
Others live in mansions
And some beneath the ground
But me, I like the bush, you know
With rabbits running 'round
And a pumpkin vine out the back

(Chorus Twice)

I agree with you and Belle0101 and feel the exact same way. Sometimes seeing someone who has that much passion for life really makes you evaluate your priorities in life and makes you realize that life is short so you better try and do what you love with the people who matter the most to you.

:sad::sad::sad::sad:
oh, so sad

It was, however, "so Steve." I do think it was the perfect memorial representing his life.

Wow. When everyone sang that song I thought that Australia must be a great place to visit and live. Everyone showed so much love for their country. I think that I need to make a visit. I have always said that I would love to see Australia. After seeing this, I REALLY want to go!

You know, his life was cut sooo short. But, really, Steve Irwin packed more into those 44 years than most people could/would in 88 years.

We will grieve for the animals and for his family. I am not sure how his dad will do. I know the man has another broken heart.
And we will grieve for ourselves, because we rarely come across a human being so full of life and so passionate about anything in life. We'll miss him and hopefully we will try to carry on his legacy.
I think that is what he would have wanted most of all!

There is nothing anyone can say.. the following says it all...
