I watched a making of on HBO lastnight. Looks pretty good. Has anyone seen it yet?

Read the book...it was spooky and very "gross"...I think I'll pass on this one.

I'm only 330 pages into the book and I refuse to go see it (even though I am dying to!!!) until I am done.

The preview looks really good! Finally the films are being made true to SK's books! I was tired of seeing poorly done movies but ever since The Green Mile they have been pretty darn good!! :)

Evidently there is a scene in the movie involving a bathroom/toilet, and the director said that scene will do for the movie what the shower scene did for Psycho

Saw it last weekend! I had already read the book.
I enjoyed it.........but of course, a lot of the book wasn't there.
Character developement was down.

But, considering the length of the book, they did a good job.
The toilet scene was pretty creepy ;)

DH didn't read the book and he enjoyed it also.

I read the book and it scared the s*** out of me (no pun intended). I still haven't decided if I'm brave enough to see the movie or not!

I found the book pretty intense. I can't imagine they could do justice to it in such a short time span of a 2 hour movie. I don't know if I want to see it or not.

I saw the movie last week and amazingly they did justice to the book -- BUT only if you read the book. My DW isn't a SK fan so she won't read the book. All the way home I was having to explain the jumps and leaps the movie made.

If you haven't read the book, the movie will certainly be confusing in places.

The movie is gross -- lots of gore. It is intense, too.

I read the book and I enjoyed the movie. :earseek:

Hmm...now I'm interested in the book and the movie.

It's also always bugged me that SK movies were never really like the book. It's like the Shining...I like the newer version better than the older version because it's more like the book (DH thinks I'm crazy though because he says the older version is the best since it's a classic)

One of my favorite SK books is Salems' Lot...that book made me have nightmares...I had to only read it during the day time! Then I thought I'd watch the movie and I thought it was the dumbest thing ever! With as scary as that book was they could've made a much better movie out of it. With special effects and computer technology today, I'm sure if they did a movie on it now it would be a lot better :)

We've decided to see it tomorrow afternoon!

Loved the book - as usual, the movie was lacking....
I think it's pretty hard to take a SK novel & turn it into a movie unless you have an extremely talented screenwriter & actors. You just can't transfer some of those inner workings of the mind onto the big screen - which is something SK excels at in his books....

The movie had it's moments, it wasn't a waste - I will say, there was one scene that had me laughing my butt off & I don't think it was supposed to be funny...... You'll know it when you see it - I just can't see anyone taking it seriously.......

Ya same here, I'm about 300 pages into the book, somewhere around the toilet part... Not gunna see it until I'm done.

I haven't seen it yet but I would like to.

I used to read all of the SK books and scare the poop out of myself until DH started working 3rd shift and I had to sleep alone at night. Now I just can't get myself to read them anymore. I was so tempted to buy this one the other day, though. Now I'm glad I didn't if it is really scary.

As far as Sk books to movies, there have been a few that I thought were done well. Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, and Pet Cemetary were great, imo.

If the bathroom scene in the movie is as graphic as the book...well let's just leave it at that! I do want to see the movie though.

I never read The Stand, but liked the made for TV mini-series.

Has anyone read the book and seen the movie? Did the movie do it any justice?

Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me & The Shining are rare exceptions to the good movie/good book rule with SK -

Blondie - You MUST read The Stand - That & The Talisman are my absolute favorite SK books. If you liked the movie, you will LOVE the book - It is incredible! There is just no way some of it could be conveyed on the screen......
