Step foot in the living room and die!!!!

So they're allowed to watch the plasma, but it HAS to be one of your videos? Why pray tell is that? Kind of like rewarding them and punishing them at hte ssame time? Sounds a little passive aggressive.

We use ALL of our home. We dine every night in our VERY formal diningroom, together, as a family!! We have very expensive antique furniture in there and we have taught the children to respect it. I think it is important to teach your children respect for nice things, but putting areas off limit, IMO, does not teach that.

Free yourself OP!!! Tonight after everyone is home, go in there, put in the Wizard of Oz, play a game, eat popcorn and enjoy some family fun time IN THE LIVINGROOM!!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!
::yes:: ::yes:: Go for it!!!

MTE Gymnasticsmom my god I couldn't imagine condoning my family to only be able to use the TV in 1 room and not eat in the other rooms. A Walking tour what do you have a criminal family that you do not trust them. My kids have friends over all the time and family and the kids go play in theri rooms or in the basement or livingroom and yes they eat in there to my lord what next. Oh ya we also wear our shoes in our house. As for the Plasma TV get something that isn't a throw away technology like and LCD or DLP TV you will be much happier. After about 7 years well yours may last longer as it sounds like you never use it. The gas in the plasma TV burns off every time you use it and your average lifespan is 7 years sometimes less depending on the brand and quality of TV. When the gas is gone you throw away the TV non replenishable no recharge system for it. I suggest you use your house and all of it that is after all what you paid your hard earned money for even if it was designed with the help of a decorator.

 I don't know anyone that has a room in their home that is off limits. It would be one way to keep visitors from coming over though.:teeth:

BTW, I'd have the same reaction if your tv was one of those dinky b&w 9" tv's like my dad takes outside to watch sometimes.

O.K., now I've read your post above, we were posting at the same time.

I would never have a maid or leave anyone unattended in my home, so I guess I can relate on some level. I'm also very particular about my things - especially family heirlooms -- I'm sure in my case its because I grew up with 8 siblings and never had anything nice without a younger brother or sister ripping it up.

HOWEVER, the only people I keep an eye on in my home, while I am there, are my kids or their friends. I expect my adult guests will keep their hands off my things. Are the guests in your home some sort of thugs or something?

We just recently moved to a house that has much more room than our old place and, frankly, I keep herding the family out of the family room and into the other rooms. I feel like I spent a chunk of change on this house and I want to make sure we use every bit of space!

We are changing our "formal" living room into a library with built-in bookshelves and big comfy chairs for reading and listening to the stereo and the desk and desktop computer. I don't want a room that's just for company--I have a family room on the main floor and another in the basement.

That's just me, though--I know plenty of people that have a "company room." I just like to have the family be comfortable in any room. We do take our shoes off--but we live in Michigan and it's usually wet outside. I don't want to mop every day!

But...do they really ask to watch the video of the birth of your child?

My family and friends are great people, but I just don't like them all over my house. There is a place for them on the first floor, the living room, the dining room, and the living room.

I have lots of videos, I just used that one as an example. DD likes to watch that one. I have every family reunion from 1989 so whatever they want to watch they get to see.

The only room that I consider off limits is my bedroom. We have a really nice master bath, and a huge master bedroom, and it's like our sanctuary. No kids allowed, normally

I had that all planned out when we added our addition to the house, and we finally had 2 bathroom. The joke was even that DH wouldn't be allowed in the master bath. Well that "rule" didn't last long. DD had a bad rash, and the only way I could get her to soak in the tub was to use the whirlpool in the masterbath. Now she loves the whirlpool as much as I do, and like others have said, in the long run what matters more? My DD enjoying a whirlpool bath, or me not allowing anyone in there but DH and me.

We also ended up putting one of DS's old video systems in the masterbedroom (super nintendo) and DD likes to play it. So now we have fun together sitting in the bed playing video games.
One of htse days when we fianally finish renovating the rest of the house, I will have my sunroom. the dream is it will be kid and TV free, but we will see.

I agree about the nice things and we don't usually let our kids friends in their rooms. But in this house most of the toys are not in their rooms anyway so there is no reason to be there.

I can't imagine having a maid so no comment there.

As for a walking tour? We call that the 50 cent tour when people come over and want to see the house. But it's a joke.!

And yes we wear shoes in the house!

To be honest, LCD flatpanels, AKA "regular flat screens" cost more then Plasma flat panels and usually provide a sharper clearer image, but hey, i'm not flaming just helping to spread the techie love :)

And no, I don't trust everybody with my things.

Well, in her defense she does live in Joisey...maybe Tony Soprano is her neighbor??? ;)

I think they ask if they can watch the plasma and that's all they're allowed to watch on it. Kind of a give and take kind of thing.

Well, when my neices and nephews visit they pick up everything! I have a lot of ceramics and glass (collectibles) that I always move to higher spaces when I know they are coming. I started doing this when my neice used one of my chinese figurines as a dancing partner!:earseek: It survived, just barely!

My place isn't set up to be kid friendly, so I have to make a few adjustments!:sunny:

This reminds of the Marie on Everybody Loves Raymond- and her plastic covered couch. Remember the episode that she was going to be 'free' and removed the plastic? So funny!

We don't have an off limits room. We actually turned the formal living room into DH's office because we had a family room as well as a bonus room that we use for a den. DD is not allowed to eat anywhere except the kitchen or dining room. If we are all watching a movie she can eat popcorn with us:p .

Amirah95-- its your house and you can live in it anyway you choose. No one on the Dis is paying your mortgage so our opinoins are just that. Enjoy your new home it sounds beautiful.

Things come and go, so why not use them when you have them? If a person can't be comfortable and relax in their own home the way they want to, then where?

I am so out of the loop. We have a Sony TV, I think its a flatscreen, but I'm not even sure about that. :lol

What exactly is a Plasma TV, and whats so good about it? I think I might have seen one at Circuit City, its like a TV but without the frame? Like it looks more like a piece of glass? I guess I don't see the appeal of going to someone's house and watching the birth of someone else's child numerous times just so I could watch a Plasma TV. Once might be interesting, but I would probably wouldn't care if I watched it on a 19-inch TV or a fancy TV.

Well said JoNo I worked for a company that tested tv's so I was informed as to lots of different ones I also worked part time at BGest Buy and was trained by all the manufacturers and teh Plasma TV's are great for the first couple years but even the manufacturers say buy an LCD or DLP TV for longevity and lasting picture quality.

I don't care how much the TV costs, it's nice and it is saved for when the Living room is in use. I also have this little white pillow my mom made for me when I was a child and if anybody touches I'd flip out. If you don't take of your things, nobody else will.

Actually plasmas are cheaper then a lot of flatscreens. Probably because there are so many problems with them and folks don't want to buy them. I wouldn't have one. Our 65 inch is much better then any plasma. So I highly doubt anyone here is jealous of a plasma tv.
